- yes, it is a slow recovery and you need to listen to what the doctors tell you. I had l-4, l-5, s-1, and s-2 decompressed, grafted with titanium rods and screws. I still have problems. You will never be 100%. You ned to do strenghtening exercises, get rid of excess weight. I drive an 18 wheeler and it can be uncomfortable some days. You learn to adapt and adjust your lifestyle. Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!
- i just had this done in April...... i had c-6 and c-7 cervical fusion...... they removed a damaged disc, inserted a cadaver bone, and screwed a titanium plate into the vertebrate to hold the two together till they fuse permanent.... although it is a bit painful it is healing fine and i am able to do most of what i did before the surgery...... except lift but in time and with some therapy i should be back to 90 to 99% two hours after the surgery i was on my feet to use the bathroom and home the next morning..... faster than i thought it would be...... i stayed around the house for the most part for two to three weeks then started physical therapy....... after about 5 weeks i was mowing the yard and planting flowers..... I'm not supposed to lift anything over 8 pounds but i can push the self propelled mower .. if i get tired or sore i stop . take a break ... start again when i want...... its been 4 months and I'm returning to work.... light duty only..... cant lift over 15 pounds weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee..... but its going well so far...... i had to keep myself busy or i think i would have gone insane or drove my family insane....... being a workaholic i didnt stay down long by the way ..... the scar on my neck is barely noticable there is a web site to help making decisions answering questions www.spine.org i went to this sight and helped to make my decision.
- i had a cervival lamenectomy 1 year ago c1-c5 titanium rods etc fitted it was very painful but well worth it ,i also had a lumber lamenectomy done L1-L4 7 months ago .i then devoloped a spinal abcess and had to be opened up and it redone and my back cleaned inside ,this wasnt a success at all ,i can hardly walk ,be sure you are aware of the pitfalls and dont look for miracles ,it will take time before you feel the benefit ,if any
