What is the best thing to do if I want my foot to get stronger after surgery?

I just resently had reconstructive surgery on my foot, so what are some good exercises or work-outs to do in order for me to get it in basketball playing condition 4 months from now? I just recently had surgery on my foot, so I would like to know what would be the best thing to do to strenghten my foot. The doctor said that there was no need to go to a physical therapist, so what should I do? The doctor said that there was no need to go to a physical therapist, so what should I do?

  1. I would say go to some physical therapy sessions
  2. check with your doctor, but I would think any water exercises. also bending forward and backward. Seems like a mindless thing, but will strengthen. Best Wishes. Good luck in Basketball!!
  3. consult a phyisician dude
  4. Do the exercises that they gave you at the hospital and consult a Physical Therapist.
  5. use it
  6. You need to work with a physical therapist-- there are some exercises using a towel-- on the floor and working the muscles to go side to side--- and also up and down with your foot- increasing resistance a little at a time
  7. walk on it
  8. physical therapy, n walking
  9. Follow the main rule.....do what the doctor ordered, but.....I would personally recommend that as soon as you are able, stay the heck away from shoes. Shoes are bad for your feet, bad for your back, bad for you, period. If you walk around barefoot, you are exercising your entire foot, every single little muscle in it. You'll be a much better athlete for it as well. Being barefoot improves balance and basic health as well.
  10. Check out a sports chiropractor for your best results. If you find a chiropractor that specializes in sports injuries and rehab issues, he/she could help to design a specific rehab protocol for you, and also help to equalize your gait. Due to walking on crutches and the unequal distribution of your weight on your good foot, there will likely be some joint restrictions in your spine, and corrections of these could also help your game. Also, there are some other modalities that can be utilized to help with swelling and range of motion issues, and of course the overall strengthening of that foot.
