Has anyone had the lap band surgery for obesity and weight loss?

In most cases it is a day-surgery, so I've read. How long is recovery or what type of complications? This lap band surgery is supposedly less invasive than gastric bypass. I have years of yo-yo dieting and I'm over 100lbs my ideal weight with a lot of health problems that are exacerbated by being overweight.

  1. Don't know.
  2. No, but I've had the roux-en-y gastric bypass. It was the best thing I ever did. If you want more info on it, feel free to email me at brevejunkie@yahoo.com and I can share my experiences with it. Best thing I ever did. :) I lost 185 lb. in 18 months and managed to keep off all but about 15 pounds of it. (Five years and two kids later. :))
  3. Gastric Bypass Surgery /gastrectomy/stomach stapling /lapband (all types of weight loss surgery) is very safe nowadays. It is very cheap in India. There is one company that is very famous in India that arranges obesity surgery for foreigners in India. They are called the Forerunners Healthcare.I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories. I have also read that they arrange financing for american and canadian patients as obesity surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. The cost savings are incredible. As a doctor i personally believe that your obesity surgery can be easily handled in India as the quality of healthcare available here is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star. My cousin got her revision surgery for gastric bypass in India through the forerunners healthcare .She is more than very happy with the results. She has lost 65lbs in 5 months. She just paid 25% of the amount she was quoted in USA and is all praise for this forerunners healthcare company.hope this helps http://www.forerunnershealthcare.com
  4. I just had it done on July 26th, 2006. The surgery itself took about 30 minuets. I had very little pain after surgery. So far I have lost about 20 pounds. Prior to the surgery you have to lose about 10 to 15 pounds so the surgeon can move your liver up to perform the surgery. The weight lose makes the liver more flexible. You have to go get an endoscopy done so they can see if you have any stomach problems. Also you have to go see a heart doctor and have an EKG done to see if you have heart problems. Then you have to go see a shrink and see if your mentally competent and that you really want this procedure. Then you have to go to 2 support group's and talk with other people who have had surgery and people who want surgery. These support groups are very helpful. After that is all done you meet with the surgeon and talk about the surgery and set up a date. I started on June 14th and and by 42 days later I was banded. Some people take longer because they have problems losing the weight or have other problems. Good Luck to you. I am glad I did it. Also you have to follow a strict diet after surgery for a few months but it is worth it.
