When do you feel weight loss surgery is justified?
Is it okay for vanity? How about when it would save someone's life? Should a person having it have to have permission from their spouse or children/parents?

- No, I truly do not believe it is okay. Why? Because it is so unfair that some people [aka people with the money] are able to have it just because they have the money. What about those who want it but can't afford it? And besides. It is totally unfair because the weight loss isn't natural! That has to be so... unfair. Other people are STRUGGLING with their diet and all the others do is just go to the doctor and poof! No more. But about the one saving lives.. sure why not? Why not grab the chance to save a life? Are we crazy? It would be so much better to have permission, but hey, it's a free world! It's not like children listen to their parents. Or anyone to anyone for that matter.
- It is never recommended for vanity. Too many risks and side effects It is used when the risk of staying that weight, with that many weight related co-morbidities/risks of death are higher than the risks of death associated with the surgery. The person having the surgery, if they are mentally stable, and competent should make the decision by themselves, and if necessary they should talk to their loved ones, but ultimately it is their lives, and they'll have to deal with the surgery and the side effects.
- Weight loss surgery is justified whenever a person is significantly overweight, and dieting and excercise have failed to cause weight loss. The weight loss should be affecting their health. No one but a minor should have to have permission, ofcourse being from their legal guardian, but for a child, it would not be an appropriate surgery, and would not be performed.
- when nothing else works. diets, excercises etc. My sister had her stomach stapled. It worked. she lost 200 lbs.
- It would be justified if the weight was creating severe health problems. In other words, the benefits would have to outweigh the risks. Assuming the person is an adult, they shouldn't need permission from anybody, but they should feel close enough to a spouse to include them in any decision making. Parents and children should be informed, not asked.
- In my eyes, the only time when weight loss surgery is justified is when you are about to die and have no other options. I considered it once and then I found a plan that worked for me. It was called Shapeworks, so far, I have lost 95 lbs in 8 months. It is a very healthy plan. Here is where I found it: www.loseweightnow.com/tfward
