- It all depends on the health and age of the person having the surgery. My mother recently had 2 heart valves replaced she was in ICU for 2 days. Transfered to private room for three days and then went home. She is 70 years old. Ramifications include taking extra medications such as blood thinners, cutting out excess fats and salt from diet and getting plenty exercise.
