I need reconstructive surgery for my flat feet, what should I expect?

The bones in my feet are fused at the wrong angles (15-24 degrees off), which leaves me with no arch in either foot. I have been to many podiatrists and I have had every kind of orthodic they make for pronation as well as done physical therapy. Last year my podiatrist suggested this reconstructive surgery, and I decided against it. Since then my ankles, knees, hips, and back have all become much more painful. I'm only 18, and I'm realizing that in order to be comfortable just walking later on in life, I have to take care of this problem. I read a few other questions similar to mine, and I saw a lot of ignorant comments like "I would rather just live with flat feet" or "surgery is unnecessary." When it is painful to walk, something has to be done. I'm very against surgery if there is any other option, but I promise I've tried everything else. So please, only constructive comments. Thank you!

  1. I'm sorry you have such a painful problem. I would say do the surgery now, while you are young and can heal quickly. The longer you wait, the more pain you incur, and the older you get the harder it is to heal quickly. Also the older you get the more life intrudes on recovery time - ( college, job etc.) so I would say now is an ideal time to do this. I wish you luck and fast recovery, listen to your doctors and do what they tell you to do and you will be fine.
  2. I could help you attempt correct your flat feet. It only involves various exercises for a short period of time. I've been successful helping several people thus far. If interested, email me k.sordo@gmail.com
