Are intraocular lens implants to restore good vision a permanent cure for cataracts and myopia?

Public Comments

  1. If you have cataracts an eye doctor (ophthalologist) will assess you and then he or she will determine when you should have cataract surgery. For cataract surgery your natural lens inside your eye is taken out and replaced with an artificial intraocular lens implant. The orthoptist / ophthalmologist will take measurements of your eye so that some strength / power can be added to the intraocular lens implant hence eliminating the need for glasses. So to answer your question, yes, the intraocular lens implant is a permanent cure for myopia (however, you may have to wear a small prescription - depending the success of the surgery). It is also a permanent cure for cataracts if the natural lens inside your eye is taken out. However, if you're getting the normal intraocular lens implant, you will have to wear reading glasses
  2. I've had cataract surgery on both of my eyes within the past year. The first one they removed my lens and put in just a clear lens with no prescription. (this way you would use glasses to correct it). However, in the other eye I have the intraocular lens with a prescription and need reading glasses. So I think the doctor will probably make the decision about what to do in your individual case but the results after the surgery where I had a prescription put in were really good for distance. Reading glasses aren't so bad. good luck!
  3. if you have cataracts and are eligible to get a iol and are eligible for the multifocal lens then yes.
  4. Yes, cataract surgery is permanent. You only have to perform the surgery once off. Dr Yeoh Phee Liang Consultant Ophthalmologist Website : www.advancevision.net.my Tel : +603 - 77241392
