I was told I have flat feet and needed surgery. Should I exhaust alternatives or is surgery my only option?

I am 14 and was diagnosed with a severe flat foot deformity. I am getting orthotics but was still recommended to have surgery anyways. We are getting a second opinion but the recommended surgery was the bullet plug to go in between the bones. Does anyone have any comments, past experiences, suggestions, alternatives, or should I get the surgery? I'm getting inserts, but was told they couldn't correct the severity of my feet. Mind you, it is severe, my ankles literaly touch the ground when I stand/walk and it causes me issues. Please look at this before you answer! In response to the first answer, when I say my ankles almost touch the ground, I mean the other way. (The inside of my ankles.)

  1. You sound like you have clubbed feet rather than flat feet. My brother had flat feet(fallen arches) an orthopedic insert solved his problem, my husband has flat feet but its never has given him any troubles. Now a clubbed foot, so turned you can hardly walk, sounds like a need for surgery. I have seen them perform these operations and they really helped the kids and teens be able to walk normally again.
