  1. Ok I have had many ops, you have nothing to worry about, its routine surgery, you'll wake up a bit high and as far as the pain goes you'll recieve pain killers don't take them for longer than 3 weeks tho and the stiches itch ;-)) Good luck
  2. You are over-anxious about this. Calm down. People have surgery every day. You will enter the hospital or clinic and be prepped for surgery by cleaning the area with antiseptic. Leave jewelery home and bellybutton ring if you can take it out. You can keep your nails on, no catheter needed, the iv will just be a poke and it hurts less if you try to relax, you will go to sleep and when you wake up everything will be done, even stitches if you need them. You won't have any nose or throat tubes. You shouldn't feel any pain after surgery, but they might send you home with Tylenol for later if necessary.
  3. Don't get bent out of shape. A scope is a pretty routine surgery and they shouldn't mess with any of your stuff. You'll be groggy when you wake up and won't have a catheter. You will have to pee before you go home to make sure that your kidneys and stuff were not effected by the anesthesia. Your throat might be a little sore if they decide to put a tube in there while you are out. You won't have it when you wake up though. You will have a pre-op meeting with the anesthesiologist, so express your concerns to this person. Focus on rehabbing your knee when you get out. That is your main concern.
  4. Ask your doc about your nails, they put the little clip for your pulse on your finger and the nail can mess with it a little. That can vary. Don't worry, have had a few surgeries. IV is like a shot, you will get a cath and all the tubes associated with anesesthia but that but it will be done after you are out so you won't feel a thing. When you wake up you will be woozy and shouldn't feel much. You throat may be a little dry but again, no biggie. Usually they give you a soda/water and your first pain pill in recovery to make sure you don't hurt. You have to stay in the hospital until you pee and then they usually discharge you. They usually make you remove all jewelry or they wrap it - just take your belly button ring out, you can put it back in when you get home. They give you a shot through your IV and you don't even know you are going out. When you wake up you don't really even feel like you slept so it makes it easy to sleep when you get home. You will be fine, if you are really really nervous, ask your doc in advance for something to take to relax you before you even get to the hospital. My husband has always had to take a little something prior (he had major neck surgery after an accident) but I have no problem cause i just want to get on with my normal routine.
  5. ok surgery is not as bad as your making it. Going under is just like sleeping, you don't remember falling asleep, you dont know whats happening, in fact i had a dream during my second surgery. The iv's don't hurt at all because they out cream on your hand so u cant feel a thing. Also they will put a throat tube in you but you wont even notice, they put it in and take it while your asleep and there is no pain. They make it as comforting as they can so you dont panic of get nevous. Just dont worry and every thing will be ok
  6. These are all questions you should ask the doctor doing the surgery. If you don't have another office visit scheduled for before you surgery, please call the office and explain that you have questions and they can either have the nurse explain everything to you or make you an appt for the doctor to see you again before your surgery.
  7. I have had several. The thing that bothers me is the darn needle they stick in the back of your hand for an IV. Hurts like hell. Of course afterward whatever they operate on will be sore and painful, do whatever they tell you as far as staying off your feet. If they don't tell you to bend your knee in a day or two, I would ask about it. Wife had knee surgery and they left her in a soft case for too long and her damn knee took weeks to get it to bend again.
  8. I have had many surgeries. you will have to remove everything, clothing, rings, everything. you might have a catheter, but they are not painful. To go under, it just feels like you are going to take a nap. Except the anesthic burns a little but only if they use the IV. An IV dosnt hurt at all to put in. You probably will wake up to pain, because they have to get your pain regulated. You will have a tube in your throat but you will be asleep they wait until you are asleep and they take it out before you wake up. I wish for the best.
  9. I've had a few surgeries so I will just comment on my experiences... First Im sure fake fingernails are fine, I've never had them on at time of surgery, might be best to ask a few days in advance. Belly button ring I had to remove, all ear-rings etc had to be removed too Catheter... well this depends on how long your staying, have they given you a time frame ? I've had one and they are not too much trouble, so don't stress You wont feel a thing while your under, you will be completely knocked-out, no stress you will be fine does it feel like you just closed your eyes and when you open them its all done? YES The IV can be a little uncomfortable, and little pain when your move your arm, but nothing to serious, for me it was more the uncomfortable factor than anything else I've had a few and my experiences have been positive, but its always good to finally get home xxxx http://www.undiagnosedillness.org
