I had a cataract surgery of my right eye two weeks ago (removal of cataract and insertion of IOL lens). I was chopping red onion and had lot of burning sensation and tears which subsided after about 10 minutes. I did not rub my eyes nor washed with water. I was wondering if the tears by onion odour would have harmed my eye recently operated. Appreciate feedback. Thanks. SKR, Ontario, Canada, 25Oct2008.

  1. Could of!. Go & see your optician & ask his/her opinion. Hope your eye gets better soon.
  2. I am sorry to hear this, unfortunately i am not able to give you any advice.....as i would def not be qualified to. I think if your really worried about it, go back and ask your surgeon. I can give you a tip for the future tho when peeling onions.....when you take the skin off them, before cutting, place them in a bowl of water....also try cutting along the lines of the onion this should kill off alot of the onion odour. Good luck, hope your eye gets better
