Can I be the same pitcher that I was after shouler surgery?

I had surgery in february on my rotator cuff and labrum. It was bascially a clean up.. not a repair. I have been rehabing and doing a throwing program. Is there anyone out there that has been in the same boat as me and came back to throw has hard when they were healthy? thanks

  1. I haven't been in that situation, but if it's a clean up I think you'll be alright. Hopefully you turn out like you're hoping, and not like Mark Mulder or a pro like that.
  2. you could become a different pitcher use more creative pitches and less heat
  3. doubt it
  4. Well first how old are you? I have never been in that situation but I know plenty of guys who have had labrum and/or rotator cuff surgery. Problem is you are messing with muscle and tissue that must be strengthened. I am a current pitcher myself and I know that the success rate from a shoulder surgery vs a tommy john problem is much less. Sorry to say it but the majority of guys do not come back as strong. Not to say it wont happen but I know guys that have rehabbed for 2 years and still not throwing as hard and I have seen guys rehab for only 6 months and they are ready to go. It depends on how hard you work and how good the program is that you are on. It's pretty much a hit or miss. Good luck man I feel for you
