Reasons for and recovery of Gallbladder Surgery?

Would anyone be so kind as to be able to tell me about gallbladder surgery? My doc says mine is not functioning and needs to be removed. Its an outpatient thing, Im wondering what to expect after the surgery, can I go back to work the next day. Any info would be very much appreciated, Im supposed to have the surgery on Oct 21. Thanks for your time. Jackie b Thanks to everyone giving feed back. I have a great surgeon and family doc, but sometimes you like to hear it straight from people who have had it done. Your answers have been very helpful, and I appreciate you taking your time to help set my mind to rest. Jackie b

  1. Most surgeons use laparoscopic techniques to remove the gallbladder. This involves making several small incisions in the abdomen and inserting instruments used to remove the gallbladder. Most patients recover within several days and some are even discharged the same or next day. The laparoscopic technique allows for smaller incisions which makes recovery faster and causes less pain. You should speak to your doctor and ask questions so that you understand and know exactly what to expect. Good luck!
