Any tips to soothe flat feet?

I've had severe flat feet for about three years now. It really is severe. I have had orthopedics's for two years and the only time I take them off is when I am in the shower or sleeping. I can't get surgery because my feet are still growing. I play alot of sports all the time (basketball, volleyball, track, badminton) so resting my feet is kind of out of the question. Although, sometimes when I play these sports my feet are in so much pain I just want to cut them off (really.) The best thing that I have heard so far was to roll a ball or rolling pin under your foot, and to ice your foot to reduce inflammation. Is their anything else I can do? There the ones you get from the specialist. The REALLY expensive ones that they mold your foot into.

  1. Hi.....I feel for your pain.....You are obviously going to an orthopedic specialist as he has your wearing special shoes (if I understand right). Did he advise you on your activities or length of time to be on your feet? The only thing anyone could possibly suggest is that if it hurts, you need to stop. You may be doing permanent damage to continue to abuse your feet. By abusing, I mean if you continue your activity in spite of the pain which is your body;s warning system that something is wrong, then you are abusing yourself. Please listen to the warning signals that something is wrong. Yes, get off the feet, soak them in warm foot bath with Epsom Salts, yes, use a ball or rolling pin to gently roll your arches on. I'm saying warm water because it is soothing, brings blood to the area to carry away the dead cells. You can use ice intermittently as well. Take ibuprofen which is an ant-inflammatory and will help reduce your pain. Good luck, and keep going to that orthopedic. I am an RN
  2. After you drink 2 16 ounce bottles of your favorite soft drinks, clean them out, fill them with water, stick them in the freezer, and then roll them back and forth with your feet. Did you mean to say orthotics, not orthopedic's? You should be feeling much better with orthotics. Are they the kind you got from the podiatrist or from the store? Let me know what kind you have and where you got them from. Epsom salt in warm water is very soothing for the feet, body, cuts, bruises, etc. Also you may be having growth plate pain which literally requires you to stop any sport you are doing so you have time to heal.
  3. First, take a break from your sport coz your feet suffering..that's what the pain is telling you! Try swimming & other non-weight-bearing exercise to stay fit instead. Wear thermal support socks to improve circulation & ease pain for better healing. They really helped my daughter's feet. C a orthopedic specialist or physiotherapist who can give u expert advice for u.
