Are there any charities that help pay for childrens operations in Australia?
I have a shortened calf muscle. Because the calf is so tight it pulls my heel off the ground permanently This condition makes me unable to walk or stand flat footed, run or do any active sports, makes it painful to climb stairs or even walk very far. Yet the corrective surgery (cutting some of the calf muscle to lengthen it) is considered cosmetic which means it is not covered by Medicare. My mother is a single parent who cleans for a living and cannot afford the operation.

- Unless you want your calf to look like Angelina Jolie, I don't understand how they can call it "cosmetic". I think it depends on what surgeon you saw or hospital you went to. I'm not really sure but I think you should go and see a few doctors that bulk bill and then ask him to refer you to the appropriate specialist. They usually have connections and deal with low income families. Good luck.
