Does anyone knows if there is an Ontario law in regards to short term disability re: heart surgery?
I am going to have an open hear surgery and the surgeon told me that the recovery time is 6 to 8 weeks. Our HR told me that I have to use all my Vacation days (4 weeks) and the remaining sick offs that I have not used yet. But all these only covers 5 weeks. Is there a law that covers things like this?

- If your from Ontario Canada STD times is determined by the benefits package you pay premiums for through your employer, my STD is 75 days, if you cannot return to work by 75 days, you apply for employment insurance which pays you 65% of your income for 12 weeks. If you think you cannot return to work within these time periods you should apply for LTD..I've never heard of anyone being force to use up their vacation time for sick time.
