Have You Had Laparoscopic Gallbladder Surgery?

I HAVE to have it done and I'm scared!! Please reply ONLY if you've had it done recently. Questions: 1. Recovery Time? How long after did you feel yourself, and could go back to work? 2. I've heard people are more nauseous AFTER the surgery than before, from the gallbladder not there to aid in digestion. I'm at the point where I vomit 15 minutes after meals, and am on a very strict bland diet so I don't have an attack. Is it worse than that? 3. Do you gain weight? I am thin and would like to stay that way. And I'm just plain scared. Any information would be helpful. Thanks!

  1. The recovery time was about 2 weeks to be all the way back to normal. You tend to have diarrhea but there is no weight difference. It's a very simple surgery and there is nothing to be scared of. Good luck!
  2. Don't be scared. That surgery is relatively normal procedure. The gallbladder is a bile reservoir and in that sense, it aids in digestion. No it won't be worse than that. It won't change your weight.
  3. Ok first off DONT WORRY! im the worlds biggest sissy! honest and i had mine out last Aug. I walked into Theatre they sort you out with some wires to a monitor then an Anesthetist comes and puts a drip in your arm, then he gives you a mask and you just go lol you won't remember a thing! all i remember was 10.10 am as i was staring at the clock as i went. You will wake up in recovery i was really bossy i said who are you! lol so just shows you will be fine. a few hours later i was moving a bit next day went home the worst part is the GAS! they use it hurts a bit uncomfortable so you need to keep moving. id say realistically you could go back to work within 2 weeks and nothing after surgery will hurt more than a gallbladder attack i was a size 0 when i had it done and actually lost around 6lb after mainly as your sooo scared of eating cause you keep thinking your gonna get an attack! best to eat little and often and most of all enjoy something that you like that you havent been able to have. but this will be one of the best things you do get the dam thing out and be yourself again best of luck to you and be brave! Hugs n love xxxx
