Has anyone have or had a tear in the labrum in their shoulder? ?
If so, what is the best treatment? I have heard of injections and surgery. Seeing as how the pain meds and PT have failed I'm just trying to weigh my options. Any input would be helpful. Thank you.

- The labrum is a tissue that acts as a cuff for the head of the humerus and keeps it in place. Tears in that area are often difficult to treat. Since the course of medications and physical therapy has not helped then the next thing in line would be a surgical procedure. You have not stated your age or if you are in any sports activities. If you are young and involved in sports then surgery would seem to be an answer. If you are not involved in sports then this is going to be a case of deciding if you can live with the pain. One thing that must be remembered is that there is always the possibility of further tearing the labrum. Talk to your therapist if you are still going or make an appoint ment with an orthopedist that specializes in shoulders. Don't be afraid to ask how many of these procedures he or she has done. The more the better. You certainly want someone that has done over 100 of them. If you are near a medical school there should be an orthopedic department and someone that specializes in shoulders. A team doctor is another choice open to you. Good luck!
