Who has had their gallbladder removed?
I'm 28 years old and have to go in to have my gallbladder removed sometime this week. I would like to know what is recover time how long after can you lift heavy things? Any complications? I've never had surgery and I have small children to take care of.

- You should be fine and it takes a month or two before you are able to start lifting heavy things again. No there's usually no complications and you will be told to go on a low fat diet, so say goodbye to all those deep fried foods. Good luck
- I had mine removed when I was 17. Back then they did it with an abdominal incision. Then you had a 6 week recovery time. Now they do it totally differently. I think it's pretty simple now.
- give it 2 weeks - i had mine removed in february and was able to lift my 9 month old within a week or 2
- I had mine removed at 23. I was very sore after wards, but after about a week to 2 weeks was feeling back to normal. Cant lift any thing for a few days. No more than 10ponds for 3 weeks.
- Complications are rare but do happen, and when they do they are awful. I had my gall bladder out in April, but instead of spending a couple of nights in hospital I spent close to a month - http://blogs.sun.com/mikebelch/entry/a_belly_full_of_bile Good luck, the end result is great, you will feel so much better when it is all done.
