My 13 year old has a torn labrum in her left hip. Docs say surgery only option, but can't be done here.?
Any ideas who is the best hip ortho surgeon or where we can get the surgery?

- Probably at a hospital or location your doctor should have recommended to you during your consultation.
- Where is here?
- the best thing to do is talk to doctors and get some recommendations, and do a bit of research and calling. best of luck to your 13yr old
- University of Michigan has wonderful orthopedic surgeons and they have an adolescent unit. I have 4 pins in each hip and it was done in Michigan. If you want to know the best place in your area, find out where the professional football players get their work done and go to their doctors. They are typically the best. This is how we picked my doctor many years ago.
- Depending on where you live, UCLA, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and USC in L.A. have excellent Orthopedic surgeons. UCSF (San Francisco) is mostly a medical school and nursing school with several teaching hospitals.
- It would depend on the area in which you live. You really need to call the American Medical Association or the American Orthopedic Association to find the most qualified physician. Personally, I would NOT take any other recommendation regarding this situation... ESPECIALLY when it concerns a child. (You don't want somebody to recommend their shady friend.) Let's face, your child is the most important thing you have. Go to these site: http://www.ama-assn.org . and www.aoassn.org Good Luck!
