  2. It depends if they are board certified or not. But basically it is the same as any other specialty in medicine. Obtain an undergraduate degree (4 years) and obtain a medical degree (4-5 years). Now they can call themselves doctors. But then they must spend time doing various residencies in the specialty they are interested (1-7 years). And then, they can take the tests for board certification and if they pass, they can be called a board-certified plastic surgeon.
