Advice needed on a health matter?

Here is what I am going through. My husband had a knee scope on may 29,2008. He got a staph infection 3 days later and was put in the hospital. He had surgery 2 more times that week. Completely cut his knee open to clean out infection. 2 weeks later he gets a 2nd infection. Back in the hospital surgery 2 more times that week. This time we find out it is MRSA. Now 3 weeks later he is back on the hospital with swelling, pain and his knee is very hot,. He has been in there for 3 days now. None of his doctors can figure out what is going on. He has a PICC line is on IV antibotics and he is still not getting any better. I think he needs to go to another hospital to get a 2nd opinion but we can not get him discharged to go to the other hospital. If we leave the insurance will not pay for any of the bill. I guess I was wanting to see what others think. Should he get a 2nd opinion or just stick it out with his drs now? If we get a 2nd opinion how do we get him out of the hospital?

  1. my first thought was change hospitals, sounds like he caught somthing in the hospital.,, this is nothing to wait on id get advice from another Dr, soon.
  2. You can get a 2nd opinion from a MD in the hospital he's in. If you got the name of another MD in another hospital & he requested the transfer your insurance would probably pay for it because he wouldn't be leaving "against medical advice. Try to google infectious disease MDs & the area where you live. Try calling Invite Health 1-800-724-5566 ask for Jerry Hickey, pharmacist, nutritionist & ask his advise on some natural things you can give your husband to fight the infection. My best to you & your husband.
  3. Call "Member Services." It's on the back of his insurance card. They will guide you. He DEFINITELY NEEDS a second opinion!! Bless you both and good luck soon. :)
  4. Have a meeting with the department manager and request 2nd opinion. He will send another doctor for the 2nd opinion. Tell the manager that for your peace of mind you would like a second opinion. I don't think one has to leave the hospital to get the 2nd opinion.. Bottom line is for you to talk to department managing doctor. Don't delay. You have a right to get 2nd opinion. It's your hubby's health you are talking about.
