I have large, flat feet and I hate them...?
I'm 18, 5'3", and have size 11 feet. They are flat and the bones are collapsed. therefore, i have weak ankles so they always sprain/twist. i also have EXTREMELY limited shoe choices as most styles end in size 10 or they have built in "comfort arches" which hurt my feet. not only am i in pain a lot, but i am unhappy with my feet and i actually get depressed when i go shoe shopping. i can only wear new balance sneakers or old navy flip flops. i have orthotics prescribed by a doctor but they are uncomfortable and i still twist my ankles so i dont get the point of them. does anyone know of an alternative solution, or a surgery or something? i'm getting desperate. i dont think i can live the rest of my life in sneakers. i want to wear cute shoes like every other teenage girl i see.

- There is no surgery for flat feet, trust me, if it was, I would have had it already. I understand about having a large foot, I wear a ladies size 12. As for finding cute shoes, they are everywhere. You just have to look, and be prepared to pay a little extra. For starters, try Zappo.com they have thousands of shoes, boots, sneakers, mules, clogs, sandles, dress shoes, you get my point. Also Lane Bryant has some cute stuff too. Good luck, and stop being "desperate" and learn how to deal with what you have.
- There are a lot of companies that make nicer large shoes but I can relate to wearing size 10 and wanting to wear nice shoes. I'm 5'3 also have flat feet that overpronate and I can't wear a lot of shoes... plus i have juvenile rheumatoid arthritis and some limited ankle flexion issue as well. I have short AFO's ankle foot orthosis that prevent overpronoation and it makes me wonder if you're orthotics were made just like the flat arch ones or if they go up around your foot/ankle because that might help prevent the twisting from occuring. Really there isn't a surgery except for doing something like fusion which you wouldnt want. There are some nice clogs that I've seen and other shoes with a lot of arch support but the problsm is that you can't really wear heels and stuff.. they are just out of the question unless you want to break your ankles :( I suggest going to a orthopedic shor store.... some have nice young styles but cost a lot.... another suggestion is birkenstocks.. oh yeh... stay out of flipflops.. they will do nothing but cause you more pain in your feet and ankles and lead to pain in other areas like your knees and back for trying to counter balance your foot issues. Sometimes physical therapy can help my sthrenthening any muscles you have in your legs that might help the pain... I have found some cute shoes that give me support but they arent like the most cute heels or whatever however I find them comfortable and fashionable enough and they get me out of my sneakers and orthpedic shoes. good fortune..
- I could help you correct your flat feet, and it would just involve you following an exercise regimen for a short period of time. Contact me: k.sordo@gmail.com (yes, it's free)
