Hypothetical Peyton Manning question?
I know Peyton Mannings knee surgery is supposed to be very minor. I am confidant that he'll be back to business as usual by the beginning of the season. But, if that's not true, how would the Colts do? What do you think their record would be if he missed: 2 games? 4 games? The entire season? Do you think they would try to pick up a new backup QB? Or would they stick with Sorgi? I agree that they might try Culpepper. He could be a valuable backup.

- they will hang with Sorgi until Peyton can return, or they might take a stab at Culpepper. They do not need a new starter so no Favre will notbe an option. They will definitly take advantage of Addai. They can have a strong ground game if they need it.
- I think they would still win the AFC South with Sorgi but not the AFC Championship. They have a good team and Sorgi will play his ass off so he can be traded to another team where he would have a chance at being a starter.
- There’s no guarantee that Manning won't come back from this surgery 100%. But even if he came back at like 90%, there’s a difference between the way a knee surgery would effect a WR trying to run and make cuts opposed to a QB just dropping back into the pocket. If he was having some sort of elbow or arm surgery.....that's when you would start worrying. Sorgi is pretty much a joke...I'm sure they would try to pick up a new QB.....Hey, why not Favre....
- I think the team would fall apart without him. He is a coach on the field and that entire team revolves around him. If he is not there, it would be like the Lakers playing without Kobe - would they be any good? No.
- either culpepper or leftwich one of the two
- I think they would go 12-4. Tough schedule but they have a good defense which can keep the points down. The running game is going to be great this year... Addai and Rhodes back together again!! along with Keith as a third. They could rotate their RBs the entire game and keep them fresh. Sorgi could pull a few passes when the defense moves up but nothing major. The offensive line will be strong which means Sorgi would get some time in the pocket and they could block well for their RBs... they would need to get a Halfback to help block since they don't really have one anymore.
- Lets face it, when we are talking about the Colts we think about Peyton Manning and what a great quarterback he is. He is accurate, aware, has a strong arm, and an amazing on field presence. He has the uncanny ability to make everyone around him better. The prime example is Edgerrin James. Even in the pass first offense of the colts, Edge was a star and a premier player. Now down in Arizona, he is a shred of his former self. There is no doubt that because of him, guys like Joseph Addai, Reggie Wayne, Anthony Gonzalez, and Dallas Clark have become good and even great players. He's an on field architect. He's like having a coach on the field with elite QB talent. He takes charge of a game, knows how to make the right call at the right time, and the coaching staff trust him to do it. Should Sorgi come into the game... suddenly you take away the no-huddle offense, the on field audibles, the shifting, and the team chemistry. Especially if it were to be Sorgi on short notice. The colts would be lost without their general. first 2 games? 0-2 4 games? adjustments would start to happen, id say 1-3 Season? Sorgi adjusts, but they still lose most games and finish 7-9, especially in their tough division with the Titans and Jaguars
- Sorgi is definitely the backup. He's been there long enough and worked with Peyton long enough that he can step right in. It's not like he's stepping in with an empty cupboard in Indy. Not like Matt Ryan is in Atlanta.
- If manning misses then the Colts will be getting the #1 pick in the draft.
