  1. This could apply to hospitals and clinics as well............... The patient accommodation area needs to be quiet and restful away from smelly kitchens, refuse and out-patients who may spread infections to the inmates. The operating theatre needs to be as far away from the laundry and the refuse as possible. There needs to be a front entrance for walk-in patients away from the wards or sleeping accommodation. There needs to be a back entrance and passage for delivery of clean goods such as stock and food. Another for corpses, refuse and soiled linen etc. The operating room can be situated within easy access to the wards and outpatient clinic. This area must not be an access to any other area i.e. you don't walk through it to get to another area for instance. The whole idea behind clinic and hospital and veterinary hospital design is to prevent cross contamination from the dirty areas to the clean areas. The operating area is a sterile area and people should not enter this area without protective clothing and foot protection. I suggest you cut out some cardboard rectangles and squares to represent rooms then put them together using the information above and connect each room with a passage etc. In no time you will have a design that works.
