I was told I have flat feet and needed surgery. Should I exhaust alternatives or is surgery my only option?

I am 14 and was diagnosed with a severe flat foot deformity. I am getting orthotics but was still recommended to have surgery anyways. We are getting a second opinion but the recommended surgery was the bullet plug to go in between the bones. Does anyone have any comments, past experiences, suggestions, alternatives, or should I get the surgery?I'm getting inserts, but was told they couldn't correct the severity of my feet. Mind you, it is severe, my ankles literaly touch the ground on the inside of my ankles when I stand/walk and it causes me issues. I don't have clubbed feet, it is the other way. Any suggestions? Please answer!!!!

1. I also have flat feet, but shoe inserts seem to help me. Sounds like you have a very severe case though - I'd suggest getting a second opinion and then if the other doctor suggests surgery too just go for it!
