  1. Because they are spending time to approve the other million people
  2. Although I wouldn't do this myself, plastic surgery clinics in Asia usually don't have very long waiting lists and it's often much cheaper. I know some people who have had cosmetic procedures in countries like Malaysia and they've been stoked with the results.
  3. birocracy?
  4. Because it is SURGERY, and should be the last resort. They want to see if you have truely exhasted all other routes of weight loss. They want to make sure you are healthy enough to survive the surgery. Because they want to evaluate the patient (you) and make sure you are truely committed to the diet restrictions and lifestyle changes that will come with this type of surgery. You can still gain the weight back with surgery. Your stomach can still stretch back out, you eat more, and get fat again. So they want to make sure you understand that, and that you are really committed.
  5. It really depends on which type. You have criterias that have to met in order to have the surgeries that is dictated by insurance companies. You have to have certain tests in order to see if you are healthy enough to have the surgeries. You have to be placed on a medically supervised diet to help you lose weight so you will be healthy the day of the surgery. Everyone is different and their bodies are different and you want the most out of this tool that they are going to give you. I started the process of November of 2007 and I had my surgery April 16, 2008 and during the testing I found out that I couldn't have the surgery I wanted (gastric bypass) because it was medically unsafe but I did have the Lap Band and glad I did. If they didn't do the testing, I could have died. Your time will go faster than you think. Good Luck on your new journey.
