Is it safe to have a csection after back surgery?

I had a discectomy at L5S1 and am going to have to have fusion surgery done there also soon. If i have another child i have to have a csection, because of my pelvis, I had an epidural and a spinal and still felt my last csection. Is it safe for me to have another child, if so should I have a baby before the spinal fusion is done?

  1. Your orthopedic surgeon can tell you. My personal opinion is that it could cause a lot of harm, only because when you have a cesarean, about 4 people in the operating room get together and PUSH down on your abdomen at the same time. It feels like someone is standing on your chest, and takes the breath out of you. They NEVER tell you about this in books about childbirth, but it is something they always do. I would think that pushing so hard on your abdomen can do some harm to your recently operated spine. Best wishes.
  2. My cousin and sister both had to have and will always have to have c-sections because they both had back surgeries as well. My cousin has had several surgeries and one child. My sister was only one and has had 2 children. They were told they could have more kids safely though. You would have to speak with your Dr about it and the risks.
