I recently (7 weeks ago) had an open heart surgery. Am unable to wear undershirt as the skin is sensitive.?

The main incision and the left breast are very sensitive and irritation is non stop. In the house, I am able to bare my skin but whenever I wear something I need to pull it by the collar to prevent the cloth from touching the skin. The right breast and the right side of the body is normal to touch. Also, is there an ointment I should apply on to the incision. I do apply neospirin currently. Thank you.

  1. expect the tenderness/sensitivity to last a couple more weeks. You just had major surgery, so give it time. Talk with your dr. and they may prescribe pain medication...don't try to self medicate, as to avoid drug interactions with the other drugs u are most likely taking.
  2. I hope your feeling better. I wouldn't put anything on the incision ( ointment ) unless ordered by the Doctor Try an oversized shirt with soft material. Good luck.
  3. I had open Heart surgery several years ago. The sensitivity stays for a while because to open you up they cut nerves and the nerves go all over like a spider web which makes the area very sensitive. I would not continue to apply ointment unless the incision area is infected. The problem quit for me about four or five months!
