How long does it take to recover from open heart surgery?
I just had it and i really can't do much right now. How long till i can walk and run totally pain free and stuff?

- well you should be able to walk, they made me walk around the hospital alot before they would let me leave, as for running that will probably be awhile. It took me a long time to recover, every one is different though, but it still will probably take awhile. I was in pain for a long time, Good Luck hope you feel better soon.
- some people are out of intensive care the next day and up walking. Others stay in ICU for 5 days before they walk. The average person can be home from the hospital in less than 1 week
- since you didn't say your age,the answer varries. if your older or have other health issues it may take longer. for me i was 45 good health. i knew getting up and walking was what i neded to do. next morning that what i was doing. relax and let your body be your guide.
