For breast augmentation, is it safer to go under the muscle or over the muscle?

My wife is considering breast augmentation, and currently we are in the research phase. We would both like to know which placement is generally safer, under or over the muscle. Please know that she has a small frame, teaches gymnastics, and is very active, we are not sure if any of that plays a factor but would like to get as much information as possible. Thank you.

  1. It would be healthier to not do it at all. With the substances used in this treatment it's a risky thing to do just for appearance sake.
  2. I personally think under the muscle is better. There is less chance of capsular contracture and also it looks more natural. The only issue is that you say your wife is very active and if she works out her pectoral muscles, there is the possibility the implants may shift due to continual flexing of the pectoral muscles. Please see the site below for helpful information on breast augmentation. HTH : )
  3. I would recommend under the muscle as it gives a more natural look. Studies show both equal in risks.
