i'm having breast augmentation surgery this week and am a little nervous about recovery time, getting back to work and being able to exercise again. Anyone have any feedback?

- only your dr can tell u.
- AFTER YOUR SURGERY You will feel tired and sore for a couple of days following your surgery, most of the discomfort can be controlled by medication from your doctor. The gauze dressings, if you have them, will be removed, and you'll usually be given a surgical bra which should always be worn unless instructed by your surgeon. The sensation in your nipples will be lost but will soon return through the healing process. Your stitches will be removed within 2 weeks, the swelling may take up to five. GETTING BACK TO NORMAL Depending on how physical your job is will determine how soon you will be able to return to work and usually takes just a few days. Your scars will soon begin to fade, although they will never disappear completely.
- http://www.breasthealthonline.com Has a lot of advice from girls that have gone through it. I really wouldn't start working out until at least three months post op. I mean, you CAN walk and things, but no real workout until your PS gives you the OK. ALWAYS ask your PS, he's being paid to take care of YOU!
- If your surgery is above the breast muscle or right under the skin, recovery time is faster. Pain and swelling subsides in a shorter time. My PS advises patients to rest for one week before going back to work for all types of breast augmentation surgeries. If your implant placement is submuscular or below the muscle, it will be more painful and recovery will take longer as the breast muscles and tissue are cut and stretched while a pocket for the implant is being made. My PS advocates all precautionary measures. Better safe than sorry. Straining yourself may only result in complications or delay in recovery. Going back to exercising will depend on each individual's recovery - around 2-3months but no heavy lifting. I know it's terrible! It's advisable to stop all pectoral exercises 3-4weeks before surgery to speed up healing and lessen recovery pain. You have spent a lot of time and money for your breast implants, and you do not want to endanger the recovery or the look of your new breasts. It's just once in a lifetime! Take care and good luck! :) Angela
