Why don't they use the hormone treatments used on male to female transexuals for "normal" breast augmentation?
I believe that the hormone injections male to female transexuals receive are estrogen injections. I have heard that these injections induce growth in breast tissue. I'm not sure. It would strike me that breast augmentation for a non transexual female via this route would have a more natural appearance.

- Estrogen injections have a lot of side effects besides larger breasts. I have taken estrogen shots for infertility. They make your breasts swell but you gain weight as well, also they make you incredibly exhausted. Blood clotting probems are one side effect you could have a heart attack or stroke. You would have problems with your period. I wouldn't suggest taking hormone shots unless you really need the hormones. They could affect you permanently.
- Women already make their own estrogen, men do not. That's why the estrogen has a noticeable effect on male breasts.
- That is NOT all that hormones do for you! It's very bad to be screwing with your hormone balance for no good reason. For one thing, it greatly increases your chances of getting certain kinds of cancer.
- Because it wouldn't work. An XX woman who has completed puberty has all the breast development that oestrogen is going to provide. The oestrogen that transsexual women take (incidentally, it's usually taken orally or transdermally, not by injection) is effectively the ONLY oestrogen we have in our bodies. It causes breast growth in exactly the same way (and at the same rate) as it does in XX girls at menarche; once pubertal breast development has completed, breast tissue is no longer sensitive enough to oestrogen to continue, other than the small fluctuations that occur with the menstrual cycle. But if it makes you feel any better; most transwomen develop small breasts, due to the pre-emptive effects of testosterone on the oestrogen receptors. For most of us, a 'B' cup is the best we can do; which is why (particularly in the US) many transwomen also have breast implants.
