Best way to heal a stress fracture? Surgery?
This is my 2nd stress fracture in the past year in the same spot in my left tibia. I play a lot of basketball and I'm flat-footed and have to wear orthodics, but I guess they're not doing their job. Has anyone experienced a situation like this, and does anyone think I should get surgery, because I have a feeling it's just going to happen again...

- I know exactly how you feel, i have the same thing going on in my left shoulder (fractured growth plate). The doctors are lost w/ me they can't even identify the break but they know its there. So surgery isn't an option right now. Same feeling i know it will happen again. let me know what you find out. Though my coach told me to avoid surgery; only have it as a last resort.
- i have had the same thing and im a doctor i lways recommend to my patients surgey if it keepd happening i would have surgery!!...good luck bye..........!!!!!!!!!
- surgery maybe be the only way to fix it.
- Make sure you don't run with pain. It is important that you get help by a professional with that injury, and a cast may be necessary. If you keep getting stress fractures because of running over time, it may be that you started to early to run after your first stress fracture, or that you've been running more than your leg can handle. When you do so, your bones wont generate as much bone layer as usual, and there will be a hole digging in your bone. I would get a second opinion. Talk to a specialist and ask him about everything that's on your mind.
