Pro's and Con's of Weight Loss Surgery?

I'm one month off being 30 I'm 170cm tall and I weigh around 130kgs. I'm pretty much of perfect health except for some post natal depression being terribly overweight . My parents have put it too me that I should consider having surgery and they will cover the costs for me as they are worried I'm going to have a heart attack and leave behind my two beautiful boys. Having surgery was initally my idea, and yes I have tried everything from Tony Ferguson to Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers ect and go to the gym three times a week and train with a personal trainer and still can never lose more than 10kgs..... I would love to hear stories good or bad about having weight loss surgery and would like people's opinions too... thanks for your time Please dont think that my parents are ashamed of me, as they're not they just dont want to see me dead from a heart attack before I'm 40. If there was some way that you could help your child wouldnt you do everything in your power to make sure they had a happy healthy life??????

  1. Surgical portion control is dumber than an eating disorder. Your parents sound like they could be the reason you are depressed... honey, your mother and I have been talking, and we think you are fat, and we'll pay for the surgery... Get active and watch what you eat, but don't allow a butcher to remove a portion of your stomach.
  2. I think if weight loss surgery is the only answer for ya then I think it's one heck of a brave thing to do and more power to ya. I've personally known two people who have had it done. One lost a ton of weight, but never changed her eating habits, so she gained a lot of it back over time. The other had a successful go of it because her brain was ready to change lifestyles along with her body as it got dramatically thinner over the course of a couple of months. I guess the only other option is to stop worrying about losing the weight and just live to feel good and to move and feel alive as much as possible. I know that sounds corny. I've lost a bunch of weight just by making myself walk everywhere and making sure I eat till I'm almost full, but not quite, But heck, I eat a lot! But, everybody's different. I sure know what you're talking about though. Losing weight's the hardest thing a person can do in a way. You're fighting your brain and your body all at the same time. Well, if surgery is for you, then I wish you the well and the best of luck.
  3. Of course the most important thing is health and sometimes people need some help to lose the weight that is endangering them.People that have never had a weight problem would never understand just how hard it is...it's an addiction, just like smoking or alcoholism.I mean, think about it,no one sits down and thinks...ok,I'm going to get as heavy as possible, have no energy, have people judge me and just see what all the hype about heart attacks and diabetes is...of course people with weight problems don't do that! But at the same time,it is very unhealthy to be overweight or obese, and even if you don't have any health problems now,in the future, you WILL! Our bodies aren't meant to function with too much excess weight and eventually it will start to deteriorate at a much younger age than it should.I don't want to discourage you from getting the help you need, even if it means surgery, but if you do choose that path, you may want to look into the Lap Band surgery instead of the Gastric Bypass. It's much less invasive and doesn't "re-route" anything.I'll post a link so you can read all about it if you would like.Good luck in your weight loss journey and God bless!
