Open heart surgery is where they rip open the heart tinker with it. Bypass surgery is where they move the arteries to new positions to help with blockage. I would suggest the ladder as a last resort.
Open heart surgery is where they open your chest cavity to work on the heart. This may mean putting you on a bypass machine which pumps your blood around your body while you are being operated on. For example this could be a coronary bypass where they use arteries etc to go around a blockage in an existing artery. Your doctor can explain it to you.

any surgery that requires working on the heart and / or arteries is called open heart surgery. I am diabetic and had 5 by-passes 5 yrs ago and have been doing just fine. I was only in the hospital for 7 days after my heart surgery and was fine when I came home.
Both are same as in both cases bypass graft is put in place only little terminology difference is there because of procedure
Hi there, "Bye pass surgery" is the surgery done "without any invasion into" (without opening the heart tissue) the heart. It is usually done for cases wherein the blood supply to the heart is affected . (where more than 2 coronary vessels are blocked and the patient is symptomatic... "Open heart surgeries" are done in cases where the patient is having pathologies (problems) of the valves inside the heart. The surgeon will have to open the heart tissue and repair the lesion inside the heart. (like remove the damaged valve and replace with prosthetic /artificial valve etc etc...). What is suitable for diabetics...means ??? I am afraid ...the question is not clear there.....it entirely depends upon the pathology/ problem of the patient. Let the surgeon decide..agree ..?... best wishes...

open heart surgery is where the thoracic cavity is opened and any operation performed on the heart. a bypass surgery literally means that the defect is bypassed by grafting a healthy vessel (mostly taken from the thigh). the choice of surgery depends upon the nature and severity of obstruction of the vessel.
Both surgery is dangerous but i think bypass suffice and both surgery your chest will be open-up so this is your choice and good luck in your procedures and have a merry-x-mas and happy new year.

On the other hand bypass surgery is a surgical procedure done to diver the blood flow away from a blocked coronary artery using a new blood vessel..
