Oral Surgery?
I will be getting oral surgery next week. If anyone has gotten oral surgery, how does it feel? Does it hurt during the procedure and after it? Any tips? I'll be having some tissue taking out, in other words, my in-coming tooth will be exposed and have a bracket put on it to pull it down. Just the fact of my gums being removed partially makes me very squeamish.

- You will feel sting as the needle get in for freezing as usually when you get a filling, but otherwise, you wont feel anything.. just some pressure as they unstick the gum from on the tooth, but no pain at all.. Its not a traumatic procedure.. they will cut a little hole around the tooth and this hole will stay there (as when a normal tooth erupt. Afterward they will glue a chain on this tooth (this chain will be used to orthodontically pull the tooth out). It not stressfull at all, so dont be afraid.
- I haven't had that procedure done, but I've had a lot of other things done. I tend to get all stressed about it and it's never as bad as I think it will be. The dentist will numb your mouth with novacaine so it shouldn't hurt at all during the procedure, although you can feel him working. It may be sore afterwards, but the dentist can prescribe some pain pills to help ease the discomfort. Here's an idea: take an ipod or portable cd player with headphones and a good music cd to listen to. You won't be able to change out a cd, so pick one that you like...but if you can concentrate on the music, you won't pay attention to what the dentist is doing!
- I had three oral surgeries and i didn't feel anything during the sugery. i felt a bit pain after the surgery was over and the numbness was gone. After it is over you might have pain in your mouth for some days but it will go away gradually, just use your mouth wash which your dentist will recomend. wish you all the best!
- I've had 2 oral surgeries done and I'll be getting another on the 19th of this month... I think it depends on if you're awake or not... I was asleep for the first two and I will be asleep for the third as well you don't feel a thing during the surgery... after the surgery you can't have anything solid for about a week because your mouth is so numb, which is better than pain in my opinion... you can also expect to be pukling blood for 3-5 days which is nasty as hell... as for meals for the week following the sugery, I reccomend ice cream, jello, apple sauce, juice of your choice, chocolate milk(just tastes good and takes the bloody taste out of your mouth) no soda, the carbonated water is bad for you during that week.... idk why, it just is...
