Weight loss surgery?

I would like to get the gastric by pass surgery or lap band- I have insurance.. does anyone know how i should begin the proccess? Should i find a doctor that does the procedure then he gets me qualified through insurance or do i start with my primary doctor? I live in NY

  2. That depends on the the type of insurance you have. If you have an HMO then your Primary Doctor will have to refer you to a specialist then you go from there. The doctors office should be able to walk you threw the process from there.
  3. You should start with your primary doctor first. You tell your primary that you are interested in finding out more and would like him to request you a good doctor in your area for the procedure and then go from there. Most insurnaces want you to start with your primary doctor.
