Breast Augmentation?
I know in order to undergo sex reassignment surgery you have to live as the opposite sex for at least a year and have 2 letters from psychologists. Does anyone know what the requirements are for getting a breast augmentation? Does not being on hormones affect getting it done? Should I wait until I start hormones and let my breasts start growing naturally before I decide on augmentation or not. I really hate not having breasts and constantly stuffing a bra.

- Question, Are you a male or female? Augmentation is really expensive. I am a female and had a breast reduction which insurance covered, but it ran over $10,000. Sorry about my ignorance:) Personally, I would wait to see what your body does.
- Yes you should wait until after you have begun hormone treatment to see how your natural breasts start out before augmenting them. (BTW: Good for you!!)
- Works better if you let the hormones take effect first. You may find that after being on them awhile you don't really need the augmentation (it's always good to save money isn't it?) the only thing is that you might want to have nipple grafts because male nipples are placed higher on the chest than female nipples. I am looking into breast augmentation right now myself. I am female to male though. I want mine GONE!! (I'd gladly donate what little I have to you) And I know in my case, I do not have to have the 1 year and 2 letter thing. Although I think I DO have to take a letter stating that I have been diagnosed with GID (Gender Identitity Disorder). But it's really more about just going to a plastic surgeon and discussing it with them. They will probably want a letter though. Most want at least something from a psychologist/psychiatrist stating that you have GID and not just wanting to get breast augmentation for some other cosmetic purpose. I know my surgery is looking to be around $8,000. Ahh..as soon as school is over..I can't wait! No more binders for me!!
- Let the hormones do their thing. If you're unhappy with your breast size after that, go for implants. Geez, I wish I could give you mine, I hate these big things.
- I can understand your frustration. Before you begin breast augmentation at least have an endocrinologist prescribe hormones for you. Give it a year. Your genetics are going to decide your breast size. If your mother was small breasted there is a likelihood that you will be the same. Let your body develop before you run to a plastic surgeon. Patience pays off when you are transitioning from male to female. Too rush will actually bring disappointment.
- From what I understand, if you get implants before letting hormones do their work, there's a good possibility that the breast growth from the hormones would distort the way the breasts look. Also, you can have additional growth spurts following SRS so that's something else to consider. This is all from personal research online so don't take it as fact.
