How to get a medical discharge from the army???

My sister is in the Army. She has just graduated boot camp & is now in AIT training. She is trying to get a medical discharge for a few different reasons! First off her recruiters never told her that if she had flat feet she wouldn't be able to join..which she does (and she is now in tremendous pain due to marching etc.)! She has also been injured in boot camp. She has a fractured hip...2 herniated disks in her lower back..and stress fractures in both knees and both ankles! The doctor she is seeing still hasn't talked about discharge yet or any other options! Can anyone help us out and tell us the process she has to go through..before she get's hurt even worse then she already is...they already told her she was going to end up having surgery on her hip atleast! Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated..even websites regarding the procedure or discharge or laws THANKS

  1. Stay in, if she gets out, they won't pay for the hip surgery.
  2. Everyone I know thats been medically discharged went through a lengthy process that basically involves getting doctors that you're unable to perform as a soldier due to medical reasons. She could just start asking the doctor what the process entails, he/she would have the information. Just know its not something usually happens over night.
  3. The doc's at MEPS would have noticed if she had flat feet. Stress fractures we all have gotten all she needs is some wraps and ice, The doc's there know what is best for her and will decide if a discharge is right for her. The best thing she can do is stay in she does not want to do anything stupid to get herself discharged that may rate an other than honorable.
  4. She needs to go through the medical board process. THe longer she stays in, the less it will cost. She also needs to get copies of everything that is being done medically. She should start her own medical record and keep it updated. Sounds like she should be placed on limited duty until this can be resolved. Additionally, it is not the recruiters obligation to inform her of flat feet. That should have been addressed at her MEPs physical. Document everything!!!! She will need it for the VA when and if she is discharged. When she finds out her discharge date, she should imdediatley schedule and apply for VA benefits for service connected disability. Don't wait until fully discharged. You can also get help from your local VFW post. They will back you up!!
  5. By rule...the only way that you can get out of the military is to leave in the same condition as when you came in. You do have to go through a lot of hassles to get a medical discharge and chances are slim of getting one. If she can stick it out and do her enlistment than do that. If she needs to, she could change her specialty. My advice is do the time and when it is time to get out get alot of disability.
  6. if she knew she had a pre-existing condition; ie: flat feet she breached her contract in the first place..........she could be discharged, and not receive a dime, for falsifying her info. why join and then want to get out? why waste tax-payer's money to put her threw that training , for her too just say she can't hang? hmmmmm ssg l
