Can you get in the ARMY with Flat Feet and a GED?

My husband went down to the recruiter today and was told he could not join until the tattoo's on the side of his neck were removed. So...I was researching some things that would get rid of the tat's besides laser surgery and I found an acid that works as a peel to get rid of it. Before we begin this process we really want to be sure that he can join with flat feet and a GED. I have heard so many different storys, some say yes and others say no. He does have 8 college credits so far and will have 16 by January, but when they say 15 college credits plus GED equals Tier 1 is that for certain college credits or any classes. Then there is the flat feet issue. He can run fast and is on his feet all day everyday, he works for the garbage company. He has never had any problems with his feet or knees and there is no pain what so ever in his feet. I would appreciate any help that someone can give me, but those with experience in the army is what I am looking for a response from. Thank you. :)

  1. Current symptomatic pes planus (flat feet ) is disqualifying. When they put him through a little agility test at the Military Enlistment Processing Station (MEPS) it can demonstrate whether or not it bothers him.
  2. I wish your husband the best in trying to improve himself it will cost thousands to have the tattoo's removed that seems to be his biggest obstacle to me consult a podiatrist, most cases of "flat feet can be corrected over time Cheers
  3. At one time the flat feet would definitely have kept him out of certain trades if not entirely. The Army invented the GED so they do recognize it My advice is to ask a recruiting office. Tattoos are a definite no no if applying for an officer position
  4. There are many waivers to enter into military service. Physical conditional prombels are caped at a certain amount of personal per year. The reason is simple when entering service if your have a preexisting condition the more likely you are to develop physical promblems later on. This should detour your husband from trying to sign up if he really wants to. but he may have to wait for a wavier slot and it may limit what he can do M.O.S. wise. But were there is a will there is a way.
  5. both my sons have flat feet one got in the infantry but out now the other had to change regiments from infantry to air corps, hope this helps
  6. All you need is a GED. I have flat feet and have served in combat arms since 2002. I served 2 tours in the desert and they did't seem to bother me. When he goes to the recruiter or meps, just have him not mention anything about the feet and tough through the easy physical tests and he will be fine. My body was all messed up when I joined but I still got in. Worst case scenerio, he might just have to get a waiver and it may delay the time it takes to get in by a little. other than that he should not have any problems as long as he has kept his nose clean and been up front about anything dealing with breaking the law.
