Torn Labrum in Shoulder Treatment? What are my options with torn cartilage in my shoulder? During a swimming practice in March 2006, I severly injured my right shouler. Finally, in May of this year, a shoulder specialist suspects I have torn the cartilage in my shoulder (specifically, torn the labrum). He's ordered an MRI and an MRI arthiogram to confirm this, but it's late August, and still no call. Before this diagnosis, doctors told me I had a rotator cuff tear. So I've been through at least 20 physiotherapy sessions with no results, I've been on anti-inflammitroy drugs with no results, on the advice of my doctor, I've taken 3 advils, 2 times a day with no results. My question is, what are ways to fix the torn labrum (surgically and non-surgically)? Also, what are ways to possibly manage the pain I have every day? (Advil has no effect, and I don't react well to Tylenol) And finally, if I surgically repair it, what is the recovery time?
I have been diagnosed with a torn labrum in my throwing shoulder. The injury is at least 20 years old. Can I e I am 49 years old and play adult baseball. 20 years ago I hurt my right throwing shoulder playing softball. The pain I experience when throwing is in the posterior or back side of shoulder. I have full range of motion in shoulder, but after experiencing pain after making a throw it becomes difficult to lift arm without pain in back of shoulder. What would be my prognosis for recover if I elect to have surgery? I am playing 1st and 2nd base to limit throwing right now.
I am a basketball player and I dislocated my shoulder. What do I do? I recently partially dislocated my right shoulder (my shooting arm). The labrum is torn in the anterior region. It has come to the point where surgery is the only option. After surgery, I cannot run for 1 month and I cannot shoot for three months. Next year is my senior season and I am a captain on the high school varsity team. Any ideas for what I can do to stay fit and keep up my basketball skills for at least the first three months?

Will I ever be able to lift weights again? I am also employed in law enforcement will I be able to continue my career?
How did I get a torn labrum? I went to the doctors for my shoulder a few days ago and they said I could have a torn labrum. I want to know what could have caused this and what I should be careful of doing so it does not get worse. Also, what position should I be very careful of not going in.
Shoulder injury from swimming? I tore the labrum (cartilage) in my shoulder while swimming in a race. I was wondering how long I'll have to wait after surgery to swim again?
How much should I ask for in my malpractice settlement? I injured my shoulder(torn labrum and my Dr went against the MRI report ant operated on a different area of the shoulder. Turned out that he was wrong and the MRI report was correct. I had to get a second surgery and now of much more limited motion in the shoulder, I also now have arthritis and constant pain in the shoulder. I may even need another surgery and maybe a shoulder replacement. The Dr's insurance company is ready to settle but I need to come with some numbers first. Thanks for the help!

Anyone have labrum surgery by "thermal capsular shift" and still have problems? I tore my labrum playing softball 3 years ago, and had surgery on it November 05. My orthopedic surgeon did a thermal capsular shift to tighten the ligaments surrounding my shoulder joint. About 2 months later my should became "loose" again, and I have had problems ever since, and it feels like it did before I had surgery. Has anyone gotten the similar surgery and relapsed? If so did you get it fixed again? (hopefully Dennis R answers this question...)
I'm having surgery on my shoulder and I have a question? I work out all the time, and I'm having a scope surgery on my labrum tendon and I was wondering how much I could lose muscle wise during the recovery process. I plan on staying active like walking and eating healthy, but is there something I could do to help keep my muscle mass? Thanks for all your help.
anyone having shoulder problems out there? I have a week supraspinatus that I am having trouble localizing to excercise because my trap has been doing the work for 14 years. Anyone have any suggestions on what position I could use to isolate this muscle? This is post shoulder surgery for labrum fracture. Blogg site: shoulder.eponym.com/blogg uh that's weak not week. lol Yes the entire rotator cuff is weak. It's from a shoulder dislocation 14 years ago that caused a labrum fx. surgury was 6 weaks ago. also had a slap tear, hill sacks lession, seperation to the ac joint. a lot of stuff going on too much to list here. It would be cool if you could check out the blogg:) thanx for the info you gave blubb.
Pain in shoulder after surgery? I am currently having sharp pain in my right shoulder. I had surgery on my labrum about 3 years ago. I had felt no pain and my shoulder was solid as a rock. Then, out of nowhere, if I put my shoulder in certain positions, I will get a shooting pain, worst than before surgery. Also, I have no health Ins. at this time. Has anyone experinced this, should I be worried, will it pass?
When, following shoulder arthroscopy, will I have full range of motion? On 9/25/07, I had a bone spur removed, a partially torn labrum repaired and the whole thing was tightened. I have been 100% faithful with my physical therapy (3x a week, starting last month) and home exercises. Yet I still can't raise my arm past my shoulder. When will I be back to normal, or is something wrong???
Exactly what and where is the labrum, what is its fnnction. What is a slap tear and how can I rehabilitate.? An MRI showed that I have a slap tear in the labrum and fluid in the acromium of my left shoulder and possibly a partially torn rotator cuff.I stopped lifting weights a few months ago and my symptoms have improved somewhat.I´m not really sure what or exactly where the labrum is,but I want to start to rehabilitate it,as well tendinitis in my elbows and knees, mostly the left where I had arthroscopic surgery to remove most of the meniscus and arthritis and have undergone 4 series of injections to remain active over the past 4 years or so.17 years ago I had a laminectomy and bone spur removal at L5-S1 and have chronic back and neck problems.I also suffer from fibromyalgia, which would make recovery from another surgery more difficult. My main concern right now is understanding and rehabbing my shoulders,I have rotator cuff pain in the right as well, but I would certainly welcome any advice to improve my other conditions.I can´t risk or take the time for surgery,so I´m looking for alternatives
Indent on the back of my right shoulder ???? I am going to b having surgery on my shoulder for a torn labrum. . . . but i also have an indent on the back of my shoulder that neither the dr. nor the physical therapist can firgure out what it is. They say that it is somehow related to my torn labrum, and think that i attained both of these injuries playing softball. If anybody has a clue as to what this indent may be . . . . . Please be my guest and come up with a logical guess or answer!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)
shoulder surgery, rehab? Back in October I seperated my shoulder playing soccer (a GK at my university). I loosened the ligaments in my shoulder, tore my labrum (cartiledge), and tore my rotator cuff slightly. I'm scheduled for surgery soon and I'd like to know how long I should expect it to take before I'm back at 100% and doing pull-ups again. The doc said he'll be tightening the ligaments and repairing the cartiledge but will most likely do very little, if anything, to my rotator cuff. I know I'll be doing rehab for a while and that each person is different when it comes to recovery, but how long did it take any of you to recover from a similar surgery?
How do i lose 70 lbs, I exercise and eat right, still cant lose..? I am 36 years old. I had a radical hystorectemy 1999, but did not gain weight. I have always been a slim 120 until i had surgery for a shoulder( labrum ) injury and was given several cortisone shots. I eat well, no junk, and have the same routine. But I have gained 70 lbs! What do i do? I have tried all the diets and diet pills out there and nothing works. No im thinking of radical surgery...WHAT DO I DO?
With I ever be able to increase the velocity of my fastball? I had surgery for a detached labrum in my shoulder back in October of '06. In December of '05 I could throw a 74 MPH fastball. Now, after I'm all warmed up and everything I can hit 74-75 MPH on the gun, once even touching 76 MPH. I have many different pitches in my "arsenal" and I can throw each for a strike. My dream would be to pitch in college, and the coach said he is looking for players that he can develop. After that surgery, will I be able to add any more velocity to my fastball? Also, if I do work on my own and increase my velocity by 5-6 MPH by working out and long-tossing, should I try-out next year or call it quits? The majority of pitching careers are over after torn/detached labrum surgery, but I love pitching and I hate the fact that I injured myself.
Can physical therapy help avoid surgery for a torn Labrum? I was recently diagnosed with a torn labrum in my shoulder. It is not severe pain day to day, probably a 2-3 out of 10. Currently experiencing geneneral shoulder weakness, and avoiding certain activities. The Dr. was kind of vague on chance of therapy helping avoid surgery. I am in reasonable shape (41 yrs), but I was skipping the gym for about 3 months, then the shoulder starting hurting after an awkward shoulder stretch, backing out of driveway and turning the car wheel. Original injury was skiing a couple of years ago, then this past winter, it hurt again doing push ups. Is is reasonable to expect that stengthening the surrounding muscles will let me "live" with a small cartiledge tear? For hoe long? And, avoid the surgery? An MRI was not done, just and X ray and an exam. He said he was 95% sure it was labrum, and other 5% could be rotator cuff. Should I insist on MRI? Seek 2nd opinion?
Is an 80+ MPH fastball necessary to have a chance to pitch in college? My 4 seam fastball tops out at 74-76 MPH on a mound but I have pretty good control and I change speeds often. I have a 2 and 4 seam fastball, an overhand 11-5 curve, a changeup, and a knuckleball. I can throw each for a strike and I also change arm angles. In Nov. of '06 I had surgery to repair a torn labrum in my shoulder. Do I even have a chance at pitching in college?
I had a shoulder arthroscopy and i didnt complete physical therepy? I had this operation done for torn labrum and unstable shoulder. I got my legiments tightened and labrum fixed. I went to rehab a month after surgery. I went for about a month and a half and my shoulder was beginning to feel a lot better, not 100% but better. I stopped therepy and my shoulder seems to have little pains like in the beginning of therepy. I was wondering if that means my shoulder is how it was before surgery? Or does thie little pains and discomforts means to return to rehab?
How bad is the Shoulder Injury??? I hurt my sholder a little over a week ago doing over head Tri-Ceps dumbell presses. It hurt really bad an %45 mobility for 5 days after, Now I have 95% mobility back and the pain doesnt hurt that much..I just want to know id there is a way i can tell if it was a strain or a pull and not a tear? It hurts where the Labrum would be. A guy at work had the same thing and he had surgey and is telling me I need to have surgery.
Extreme shoulder pain.? I have had 2 surgerys on my right shoulder I tore my Labrum in 3 spots and have 4 suetures (not sure how to spell that) in that holding it back down in place. I had a frayed tendon they attempted to repair and a piece of bone floating around (which was left in). It has been 13 months since my last surgery I never got back full range of motion and I deal with chronic pain. The last 2 days the pain was got so paid it almost unbearable. I am a veteran and I went into the emergency room to get a referral to go and see orthopedics because I know I need another surgery. The emergency room doctor felt my shoulder and told me that I have a 98% chance of having a separated shoulder frayed tendons/liniments and chance or having a re torn my labrum and that I will have to have another surgery. I have been dealing with this for two years now. Am I ever going to live a normal life with full range of motion, and without chronic pain? how long is recovery from a surgery this sever? I'm only 22yrs old
Recovery from a shoulder surgery? I just recently had a surgery on my shoulder because of a badly torn labrum and a torn biceps tendon, because of an earlier dislocation. I'll be in a sling for three weeks then im moving on to physical therapy. I want it to recover and go back to normal use as soon as possible, since its summer and im on the football team. I heard protein is good for almost any recovery, but are there any other pills, vitamins, foods, etc. that would further speed up the recovery process? Thanks in advance
Shoulder Surgery? Do they need to put you out when you get Shoulder Surgery for a Glenoid Labrum Tear?
I just watched Michael Moore's Sicko documentary and have a question? How long does it really take to get an MRI or surgery, lets say if you tear your labrum in your shoulder or tear a ligament in your knee, etc. American news media says 7-9 months but the documentary says less than a couple days and surgery after the MRI. I did'nt hurt myself or anything, just wanted to know the correct answer to this. First hand experiences would be good or proof on a website or something. Thanks!
Should I have shoulder and knee surgery now, or wait until later? I have a torn labrum in my left shoulder and torn cartilage in left knee. The doctor thinks that I may have to have surgery to repair both. The knee surgery is not that invasive and amounts to arthroscopic surgery. The recovery time is about 2-3 weeks he said, depending on the severity. The shoulder surgery is worse. He says that I would be in a sling for 9 weeks and then have about 6 months of rehab. I am on a diet right now and am doing really well. I have lost a bunch of weight and am getting stronger, even with the knee and shoulder. My knee hurts when I workout or am active on that knee. My shoulder hurts most of the time. I was just wondering if I should risk the results I ahve gotten with my diet and give next summer another shot, or wait until maybe September to have the surgeries?
Shoulder pain? 11/02 I tore my labrum in my rt shoulder since then I have had 3 surgeries the last on was 8/06. I have also had two surgeries for ulner nerve in rt elbow, I am still in extreme pain. I am now expriencing pain in my hand, I take morphine IR and norco for breakthrough, I found out today my Doc wants to put me on methodone. This is freaking me out. I also am having a hard time finding work because of this I really have no use of my rt arm and have applied for SDI but they said no because I have one good arm. I guess what I am looking for is some advice on what to do. I am 35 and sick of being in pain and being broke. Any advice would be helpful...........
Open shoulder surgery vs. closed shoulder surgery.? Alright, so I had arthroscopic shoulder surgery to repair a labrum/slap tear.. turns out something went wrong in the surgery.. and now the tear has like doubled/tripled the size. They want to start out as another arthroscopic surgery, and if it can't be repaired, then they want to go completely open. For me this sucks, because it will be my 2nd shoulder surgery in 7 months.. but my question is.. can an Open shoulder surgery still be done in an out-patient surgical place? Or does it have to be doen in a hospital? If anyone can shed some light on this, and anything else about open shoulder surgery, I'd appreciate it! Thanks!
Shoulder surgery recovery? I had shoulder surgery for a torn labrum tendon (was experiencing alot of "catching") In may and did all my PT and was released from that in late november. I wrestled alot during the month of december and now am hearing alot of clicking noise and feeling some increased discomfort. Is this normal and will go away if i back off or did i re injure it in a serious way? also will it ever feel normal like before i injured it and what kind of training can i do to be able to do things like throwing hard or punching.
Dealing with a torn labrum? Last year I had an MRI and it was determined my labrum was torn on my left shoulder. I had a bout of severe pain which led me to the MRI, but eventually, after some rest, the pain subsided and all but disappeared. Since then, I got started on a fairly intense weight lifting routine that I've been doing for the past 3 months. I have been experiencing minor pains in my shoulder after I workout, most often at night, when if I lay on that shoulder. The pain will go away by the next day. Questions: With such a heavy consistent workout routine, why is it not hurting worse or at least similar to the pain which led me to the MRI in the first place? Is a torn labrum something that I can just handle or deal with without having surgery?
Is something torn in my shoulder? Popping and pain? Hello all. I am having issues with my right shoulder. Let me give you some background. I dislocated my left shoulder about a year ago and since was diagnosed with a labrum tear in that left shoulder which I am going to have surgery on in a few weeks. I did use my right arm alot initially after the dislocation and around March of this year I made a motion with my right arm and heard a pop. That was followed by pain. (I did not dislocate it, because I know how that feels) Now if I have my right arm against my side and rotate my forearm externally I will sometimes hear a pop but there is no pain associated with it; also in my right shoulder I feel some grinding if I move it a certain way. I would ask my doctor but once I get my left shoulder to 100% i really don't want to through another surgery on my right arm for at least a while. Does anyone have any ideas on what could be wrong if anything? thanks
Is it dangerous to get a tattoo over scars? I had surgery on my right shoulder this past summer cause i tore my labrum, but im all done with physical therapy and all that and the surgery was arthroscopic or something which means they went in with needles and it left four tiny scars. Im just wondering if it is safe to get a tattoo to cover them up because im planning on it. Thanks!
glenoid labrum...? What are the odds that I am suffering from a tear in my right glenoid labrum? I recently (July 17th) injured my right shoulder and it was diagnosed as an A/C Sprain and a shoulder contusion but I am slowly regaining my range of motion and am now suffering from pain in the back of my shoulder rather than my A/C joint like i have in the past. I go back in 4 weeks for another re-evaluation of my shoulder and it will be determined there if I should go get an MRI for the tendons. My shoulder is also clicking/popping more than it has in the past. What are you takes on this? It feels a whole lot more stable then it did in the beginning though i still can barely hold/lift objects in that arm without it hurting and i can feel it start to pull down, though i'm not sure if that's from my a/c joint or not. I originally landed on it playing soccer - I am a goalie and it landed underneath me more than it normally does when I dive
What're some good ways to train (cordinate) my left arm? So I have a mild re-occuring torn labrum in my right shoulder, and thats my dominant arm/hand. Now mostly it's ok but if I do a wild arm swing or something it squishes and gives me some pretty bad pain and goes ridiculously sore for a bit. Anyways, I wanna play volleyball for the rest of my life (leisurely) so I'm thinking about just getting used to being left arm'd So what're some things I could do to train my left arm so it can hit well? Right now it's not very useful
labrum tear? I recently went to the ortopedist, and he told me I have a SLAP tear that's going to require surgery. What concerns me, is I'm not in constant pain, and have a pretty good range of motion. But moving my shoulder in certain ways causes pain, and where the labrum is I have a really tender spot, and if I push that area with my finger, it sends a piercing pain through my body and causes nausea. Also when I move my shoulder it clicks and pops. I think I'm just nervous due to me having surgery. Anyone have an idea if my symptoms are really consistent with a SLAP tear, or am I just nervous?
Shoulder surgery or wait? I have had severe shoulder pain for about 4 months now, about 2 months ago I went to orthopedics to have it looked at and they gave me a cortisone shot in the joint, It gave me about 95% relief for about a week and a half, and I have been doing the excersises he gave me to strengthen my muscles in the shoulder. I went back today still with the same pain, he said I could either do the surgery or do physical therapy for a while to see if it helps. He said I have shoulder impingement, as well as maybe a tear in the labrum. Should I go ahead with the surgery or do the physical therapy first? Thank you for your opinions.
laubrum shoulder surgery?? 9 months ago i had my left shoulder labrum reparied with a scope, and i know i'm back playin hockey again. But tonight i took a hard hit and it felt like my should shifted and it really hurt, i felt like i may have riped it again but i dont know. Has anyone felt this???
I dislocated my shoulder on 5/15/07 it was my second dislocation to the same shoulder.? I last dislocated it on 4/12/06. I suffered a torn labrum with the first one but didnt have surgery just physical therapy. The second one occured while training at a law enforcement academy and its been a few weeks since it happened and my shoulder feels fine im having surgery on june 20 and am wondering what the chance of full recovery to where it never happens again is and what the recovery time is. also is there a particular procedure that is better than others?
shoulder surgery arthroscopy?? I am preparing for shoulder surgery arthroscopy and i am worried about pain and just pretty anxious about the whole thing in general. If anyone has had this procedure done (namely to repair a labrum tear and tighten up loose tendons) please let me know about your experience and what happened afterward??
torn or damaged labrum? I have been in phisycal thepary for my shoulders since march. the therpists are confuzed because they say it if it was what they thought it was it should be better by now, but it has stayed the same. i am swimmer and one night in january had to do over 1000 pushups in practice. i have had pain ever since. i havent been swimming since febuary. they thought it was impegment syondome, but at PT this week they did some tests where they moved my shoulder around and it was coming out of place and popping and then the girl stablized it and it was better. now they think it is a damaged labrum. what do you think it sounds like? what do they do about this?

Well I got a copy of the MRI today and I need to know what it means because this Dr. won't tell me anything. what is a longitudinal tear of the superior labrum into the anterior and posterior labrum to the level of the equator compatable with a slap. There is also moderate tendonosis and intrasubstance split of the proximal intra-articular biceps. there is also a mild synovitis and capsular thickening in the rotator interval and axillary recess compatable with adhesive capsulitis. Impression 1 Moderate rotator cuff tendonosis 2 Slap tear extending into the proximal intra-articular beceps tendon 3 Adhesive capulitis. Additional Details 52 minutes ago It states no full thickness rotator cuff tear. All I know is the Dr. works for the insurance and not for me so I'm trying to get all the information I c

Shoulder instability, numbness in ring and pinky fingers.? I had surgery to repair a torn labrum in March 05 and I was released to play baseball by June. A week later I feel on my shoulder and seperated my AC joint (painfull). Went back to therapy and got better. About 6 months ago I was throwing a football in my backyard and I heard a pop and I felt alot of pain in my right shoulder.. Since then I have been having alot of pain and more numbness in my fingers and I have severe subluxing. I work in the PT department at my local Hospital and they have given me exercises and I have been doing them for 5 months now with no improvement. I had an MRI after the injury, and my ortho so it was fine. He gave me a cortisone injection and it just made my shoulder feel worse. I have made another appointment with another local shoulder specialist to get a second opinion. So do you think I made the right choice being that the ortho I have been going to is one of the best in the tri state. Does anyone have an idea of what could be wrong with my shoulder.

labrum tear? ok i had surgery fo a torn labrum about 4-5 months ago. i was told i could start working out again so for the past few days ive been going to the gym. ive done the following exercises - stationary press 60-70lbs stationary bicep curl 50-60lbs arm raise 5-10lbs crunches, various cardio machines and the pec dec where your arms are out streched and u pull them together 60-70lb i was fine the first few days but then one day my shoulder felt different, kind of anoying i havent gone in a few days but every once in a while i will get a small shock type feeling. my amr also feels like its tight and lose at the same time. and like its not stable all of the time. did i do something bad with the exercise that i shouldnt have done. did i retore it or is it cartalige building up. if it is retorn will i need surgery again and will the insurance company cover the surgery a second time. what is healing time ;like for a tear a second time.
Shoulder surgery? I had shoulder surgery July 18, 2007 after dislocating my shoulder twice the initial was force trauma doing self defense tactics, after 8 months physical therapy went back to training and dislocated again while going thru monkey bars. Had surgery did my therapy and have been back to weight training although not that heavy I can do pull ups but it feels a little strange when I fully extend and am scared of a repeat dislocation. The Dr. said it is stable but I just feel like it will happen again. I need to be sure as my work requires full strength and am due to return to training. Anyone have thoughts, had surgery, suggestions? By the way my surgery was to repair a torn labrum. Also I occasionally have some discomfort when lifting weights but was told I might have some forever and as long as its not that bad its ok. Thanks for any input. I work in law enforcement and am due to return to training soon but I am becoming hesitant.
will i need surgery on my shoulder? I went to see a physiotherapist today and she said she believes I have a labrum tear which may need surgery. she will treat me for another couple of weeks before referring me. I have had shoulder pain for 18 months, I've had a cortisone injection. apparantly my scapula and my rotator cuff are week and my muscles are functioning in the wrong way. My shoulder blade is sort of pulling away from my spine. i have a bigger gap between my shoulder and my spine on my bad side, and i'm putting pressure on the lower muscles. She did a test which involved twisting the wrist and pushing up and it was agony. the rest weren't so bad. How likely is it that she is right and i may need surgery?

shoulder surgery recovery time? my husband just had labrum repair surgery. Outpatient, athroscopic to fix it, he is in a sling and on percoset (sp?) for the pain. It has only been 6 days since the surgery and he still has discomfort and pain. Anyone go thru this- how long before he might not have any pain ??? He has a f/u with Dr on monday
I just had Labrum repair surgury 8 days ago-please don't answer if you don't know? I actually have a few questions, first there are three incisions, and I'm not sure why there should be more than two. Second, most of the research I have done puts the patient in a sling for 4 vweeks max, but I'm in it for six why? Also the "tapes" are still attached after this long. Why does my bicep hurt so bad, just as much as my shoulder? and why does my arm "jump", it didn't before the operation!! Oh and mostly patients are given excercises to do starting the day after but I'm also told not to for 6 weeks, could this be that I had more than just a type II slap and we didn't know until the procedure began?
I have an MRI from My shoulder please explain what does this result mean ? This my MRI result : Finding: the humerus is in alignment and there is a small joint effusion.Long biceps tendon and the labral anchor are grossly intact.there is some fluid in the tendon sheath. there is abnormal signal in the labra with poorly defined labral margins inferiorly, anterior worse than posterior. There is a 2--mm fluid focus in the supraspinatus tendon at the humeral attachment. there is an oblique linear fluid focus in the subscapularis tendon extending to the bursal surface distally . infraspinatus and teresminor tendon are normal. There is a very small amount of fluid in the subdeltoid bursa. The acromioclavicular joint in intact. There is severe lateral downsloping of a type 1 acromion . The coraccoacromial and coracoclavicular ligaments appear intact.
surgery recovery? Thanks for all o the answers. The doc will only be able to do the arthoscopic surgery if my ligaments are completly detached--and we don't think so--so i'tll probably be an open surgery. And I'll be traveling a bit so I'll have 3 physical therapists in a little over 2 months.
Accupuncture Question...? Actually a couple of questions: 1) What does this actually feel like? Is it painful at all? How much? 2) I have residual pain from a baseball-related shoulder injury from almost 10 years ago. I've still never verified what the damage to the shoulder was, but I believe it was a torn labrum. Is accupuncture effective only on specific types of injury/pain or is it generally effective.

How long will he be out of school for..please answer? If a guy gets shoulder surgery on friday because he has a torn labrum...will he be at school that following monday? IF not when will he come back to school?? IF the surgery takes along time to fully recover...can he still come back to school?? Strengthening my core while managing chronic pain? About 14 months ago, I was injured in a stunt at a football game. Long story short, I've had chronic pain for over a year, and it's very hard to do anything while managing that. I can't ride my horses, get through a basketball game cheering, or hardly even drive anymore. Just today I was on two seperate planes after taking a short break to Myrtle Beach, and between that and a concert I went to last night, my lower back has about had it. And that was finally getting better! I have a torn labrum (the cartilaginous cup that supports the glenoid cavity in the shoulder), and hyper-flexibility in all joints, so I'm having an arthroscopy in February, and hoping for no neurosurgery after that. I feel that if I can strengthen my core, especially my abs and thighs, I will maybe have less back problems. I'm just nervous about how to do this without causing more pain! I know this isn't certified medical help, but anything is appreciated. Thanks, God Bless, and have a safe and Happy New Year! I have severe instability in my right shoulder and arm, due to the torn labrum, as that is partially what I fell on, so using that as a support during exercise really won't do. Also, my pectorals are much stronger than my deltoids and other back muscles, so I needn't strengthen the pecs any more. Using an exercise ball is what I'm thinking may be my happy medium, but I'm not sure how to truly know if I am using it correctly. Any tips with that would also be great. Thanks so much! Also, I really enjoy pilates, and would love to find an instructor, but a) cannot afford it while saving for college and b) live in a very small town and with gas prices, am not close enough to find an instructor or gym =] shirls: thank you very much! i will definitely work on the balancing. i must be very careful with stretching, as extreme flexibility is an issue for me, even if it did save my life. see, when i fell, i landed on my neck, face down, but while my head was in the ground, my legs flipped over my body to the front, and touched the ground in front. i blacked out for less than a second, but getting up i rolled onto that shoulder, and believe thats when the tear took place. ive come to terms, after many doctors urges, that if it weren't for my guardian angels, my neck would have snapped. and my flexibility. so i can't really stretch much anymore, but the balance will be overall great. lately ive noticed that my balance is off, and its hard to stand still for very long. so maybe thats an issue i can resolve. thanks again!
MRI report? since I live in NJ and got hurt on the job my workmans compansation dr, won't tell me what is wrong with my shoulder He wouldn't even give me a copy of the MRI. It states no full thickness rotator cuff tear. All I know is the Dr. works for the insurance and not for me so I'm trying to get all the information I can get.
Can anyone translate this MRI report and see if you understand it like I do? I got my MRI results and I wanted a translation in plain English just to see what other people make of this. Dont tell me to see a doctor and all that because I already have I just want some extra imput on these results. MRI Right Shoulder: Technique - Multiplanar, multisequence MRI of right shoulder was obtained. Findings: There are hypertrophic changes at the right AC joint with increased signal and small AC joint effusion. There is bone marrow edema of the acromion likely post tramuatic in nature. The rotator cuff is intact. The glenoid labrum is not well visualized by unremarkable. The biceps tendon is appropriately located in the bicipital groove. Impression: Right acromioclavicular arthropathy and bone marrow edema of the acromion likely post traumatic in nature. No evidence of displacement of ac separation. Rotator cuff intact.
pain after 7 months? I had my labrum repaired 7 months ago (along with a capsular plication) , and have been working hard to get it back into shape. My shoulder still bothers me a lot, especially after working out. I am heavily involved in color guard. (Flag, rifle, sabre, etc.) This all started in August. My Dr. had released me and I was really ready to get back into things! My Dr. mentioned a cortizone shot. Should I make an appointment? I don't want to miss out on any guard!
Help, whats ur opion on medical law suits? I had surgery on my elbow, 7 months ago, have had bad pain in shoulder since, I was told I have a frozen shoulder, rotator cuff or bicept tendonitis. My elbow is still at a 45 degree angle, pt cant help due to shoulder. Was given MRI last week, Now have been told I have a complete rotator cuff tendon tear, bone edema, and injury to anterior superior glenoid labra. It happened during surgery, I havn't used r arm for 7 months. Elbow was WC, who is responible for elbow, who pays the bill. WC denies shoulder. I really like the Orth Surgeon that did the surgery, and the hospital. I know it wasn't intentional, and I dont want hard fillings. I need surgery on shoulder, Comp wants to settle, but elbow won't straighten until shoulder is taken care of. I have an attn but still don't have any answers. I've never been one to sue or take advantage of anyone. I just want med bills paid, pain to stop, use of arm, and 2 get back 2 work.
Chances of Full Recovery? I am getting surgery on my Labrum and was wondering what the percentages of coming back 100% for baseball. Its my throwing shoulder and i hope this doesnt end my baseball career. I understand i need to follow the doctors and Therapists instructions i just was wondering if anyone knew the percentages of who comes back a hundred percent cause i cant find them anywhere.
