Oral Surgery? I will be getting oral surgery next week. If anyone has gotten oral surgery, how does it feel? Does it hurt during the procedure and after it? Any tips? I'll be having some tissue taking out, in other words, my in-coming tooth will be exposed and have a bracket put on it to pull it down. Just the fact of my gums being removed partially makes me very squeamish.

Oral surgery? I'm having oral surgery on Friday and I wanna know if anyone has had this procedure done before. I had to get braces because I have a baby k-9 that never fell out, so I got braces to make room for the adult k-9 to fit. My teeth are moving super fast, so now I have enough room in my mouth for the adult k-9 to fit. The dentist told me that he will pull out the baby k-9 which will be easy because it's ready to go. He will then expose the baby tooth in the upper part of my mouth by cutting some of the tissue away, and attach a bracket to it, and then pull it into place as time goes on. YES I KNOW it sounds and maybe painful, has anyone had this procedure done, what can I expect, how long did it take for your adult tooth to fit in its place? Please be gentle I have to go into surgery on Friday morning so please don't scare me more than I already am. Thanks I will be totally asleep for the procedure, and hopefully lots of pain meds after. He expects me to be back at work on Monday. Yikes I don't want to walk around with no tooth for 6 months :) Thanks for all the advice!!

What are the risk factors in a diabetic patient and oral surgery? My father has type 2 diabetes. He's appointed to have all his remaining upper teeth removed to be replaces by a denture and also a few mandibular extractions which will only leave him with his canines to hold a partial. These appliances are in process. In the meantime my father had a 2nd opinion and was told that it was too aggresive of a treatment, to not have th extracted because of the risk factors. We know my father has periodontal disease with major bone loss, and that eventually he'll loose these teeth. My question is, what are the risk factors in oral surgery and prosthetic appliances in a type 2 diabetic as opposed to waiting for each tooth to hurt and get infected?

Does "breakage" or "damaging" the nasal cavity require oral surgery? If so, how long after? My brother had a tooth pulled out in jail by a lady dentist. Ear pain two weeks after wisdom teeth oral surgery ? I had oral surgery for 4 bony impacted wisdom teeth a fortnight ago . My right side heeled perfectly but i still have slight swelling / inflammation on my left side n dull constant pain . Since day 10 i have been getting up with pain in left ear which manifests itself at 3 am daily . So i saw my dentist yesterday he said im healing slowly but fine n he put me on a fresh course of antibiotics and painkillers (i donot have any dry socket n infection). My dentist said its related coz all nerves are connected and it could be becoz of that. My Q is why am i getting ear ache on day 10 when i had none even right after the surgery. He had no answer and just told me to continue with the medication to be on the safer side. Without painkiller i can hardly function in the day due to pain in my left cheek very near to my ear. Im able to open my jaw fully n chew properly . Should i see an ENT specialist now for my ear ache? Did some nerve get damaged during the surgery n my dentist is not telling. After i sit up for abt 4-5 hrs the ear ache vanishes. Could it be an independant ear infection as a result of the onset of fall n changing weather here ? In which case , since im already on antibiotics can i expect it to take care of this ?

braces with oral surgery? i am going to have to get oral surgery to fix an open bite and my orthodontist said that i'll have to get braces BACK on to do the surgery. he didn't really explain why and i'm confused. why on earth would you have to get braces to get jaw surgery. especialy cause i've already had braces and my teeth are perfectly straight already. he said they'd have to be on for about 6 months after the surgery. does anyone know anything about this?
oral surgery and terrified!? im getting oral surgery soon and im really scared. its to expose a tooth that is stuck under my gum. will it hurt afterwards. im so scared :(
I have two oral surgery questions....? 1.) How bad is the pain when one has their wisdom teeth removed? I still have em' but they don't bug me at all (plus I need braces to straighten them out first....do those hurt, too)? 2.) After my wisdom teeth are removed, I will have to undergo a SECOND surgery to have my jaw aligned. You see, I have an underbite and with the underbite, I have the "Jay Leno" chin. We had tried to correct the underbite as a kid, but it didn't work. Before I graduated from high school, the speech therapist told me to save up my $$ for surgery; Dad told me not to worry about it. Now, I will be getting the surgery, though not for another 2 yrs. or so. Anyone undergo oral surgery and how painful was it? Is it as bad as some make it out to be? Thanks for your help and opinions and stuff. I don't like my smile at all. I like my jaw bite to be normal like everyone else's (of course, no one has a perfect bite). I dont have TNJ but every once in a while, I might experience slight pain in the area where my jaw meets my skull.
Oral surgery weight loss? How much weight have you lost when you had oral surgery and couldn't eat solid foods for a period of time and how much time was it until you could eat solid food? I am having my jaw broken on in 14 days..... I am having it to underbite not to lose weigh so you know, I was just curious about how much weight you lose. I am having it to underbite not to lose weight so you know, I was just curious about how much weight you lose.
oral surgery pain? My orthodontist has informed me that I am going to have oral surgery. I am 14 and still have quite a few baby teeth. They are going to pull out my baby teeth, and then "go in and get" the new teeth otherwise I won't ever lose my baby teeth. All these teeth are in the back of my mouth, but does this hurt?? I am quite a baby when it comes to pain, especially with teeth.
Giving blood after surgery..... Does oral surgery count? They keep calling me to donace, I'm a month behind now. I'm starting to feel okay to give, but I had oral surgery a month ago. It that still considered surgery, where you have to wait 1 year? They girl that called says she wasn't sure. What do you think?

Is Oral Surgery My Only Option? So, dentist said my old root canal from 10 years ago "May" need to be addressed. She notices a small area that looks like it was missed, or she says, she may not be able to see the end of the root. IF I need to retreat it, is oral surgery the only option? There is a post in that tooth. I have other root canals that do not have posts but that one unfortunately....it does. Is there any other option? Financially and emotionally, it's too much. Is there a professional out there who can advise? Thank you.

Hard Liquor after Oral Surgery.....is this ok in moderation? I had oral surgery (4 wisdom teeth)....cut out this morning. I know what I can and cant eat but what about a 1-2oz shot of liquor? 80 proof. I kno w/ pain med it is not recommended but its a friends 21st bday and I assumed hard alcohol would actually act more like a disinfectant. I would only take maybe half a shot or sip on a full one over time. Will this cause me any complications? Please dont leave me negative feedback on this matter. PS...This crap is starting to hurt, novacain is wearing off. I was out of surgery 3 hours ago....
video of oral surgery? surgery of the oral cavity
Pain-free oral surgery? I had oral surgery as a child and the injections were incredibly painful. Has anything changed? Are there pain-free options today? Note: I am talking about oral surgery, not just a small shot to have a cavity filled.
Anyone had oral surgery? Anesthesia? I have an oral surgery planned for August 11th. I have two teeth that haven't come down by themselves, so they are attaching a chain or something to my braces, and that will be used to pull them down. Anyone know what this is called? Anyone had it before? Oh yeah, I'm having general anesthesia. I'm very scared about it because I've never been put to sleep before, and I've read that the side effects can be up to vomiting. I have a big fear of vomiting. If you've had anesthesia before, I'd greatly appreciate if you could tell me about your experience. =/
diabetes and oral surgery and prosthetics?
General Antheseia for oral surgery??? My daughter needs 4 impacted wisdom teeth removed. The oral surgeon says he'll use general antheseia.Isn't that used in a hospital setting??? My daughter has heart palpitations but her cardio has given the ok for the surgery to the surgeon. I'm VERY confused.I want her heart monitored plus she has many allergies. Help!!! Wouldn't there have to be an anesthesiologist there?
Wife is having oral surgery...need your experiences/ideas? My wife is going in for oral surgery to remove most of her teeth. Due to years of diabetes, lack of dental care prior to my getting involved, and a dentist who did several root canals that ended up being extracted...she has finally decided to take on this drastic action.. Needless to say she is scared to death about this. It doesn't help that she is clueless about what to do after they are removed, and until she gets fitted with braces. Would greatly appreciate to hear the experiences of people who went through the same thing. How did you get by? Any good ideas for a soft diet? Recipe ideas? Remember that she has diabetes and this is only going to complicate matters. WOOPS! Not braces..sorry. She is getting dentures (upper and lower). I type faster then I think... Since you brought it up, she is 49 years old. We married 15 years ago, and in that time (now that she finally had insurance) we had several root canals, braces, several extractions that led to a parcial she couldn't wear comfortably....needless to say she has totally lost confidance in dentists. I have all of my upper teath removed and I wear an upper denture. I'm extremely happy with the decision, but I also totally understand fear of the unknown. What happens if there are complications? Buddy...she has had root canals and extractions after being numbed up...and that was a terrible experience. On her last extraction I demanded an oral surgeon who put her under using "twilight". THAT is the way to go. She will be given the same method for this procedure. Oh man, I forgot about her smoking! How do I get her cigarettes away from her? Every try taking a bone away from a dog?
Chlorhexidine Glouconate after oral surgery? If you read my previous Q, you know what I went through today. Anyhow, I was given Chlorhexidine Glouconate rinse because of all the trama in my mouth, wil this burn, what should I really expect. The information on the Rx, just refers to it being used for gingevitis, and nothing about after oral surgery. Any info would be great.
Pink Eye a week before oral surgery!? I just woke up today and I have pink eye in both my eyes! I am having oral surgery to have some teeth removed on October 2, which is just 10 days away. Am I going to be safe going through with the surgery, or do I need to postpone it a few days? I already have the time set up at work to have my time off as well as spoken with my professors about it. What are my options?
i am scared to death, i have to have oral surgery at 18 weeks? i have a severly decaid tooth that previously had a root canal on it. i need oral surgery to get it removed. i am scheduled to get the surgery next monday at which time i will be 18 weeks pregnant... i am sooooo scared, i am afraid this procedure will cause miscarriage or something to go wrong with the baby. i got a letter of permission from my ob but i am still really scared because i know there is no way the could deny me the surgery because the risk of infection is so great and i cant just keep taking antibiotics.. has anyone else had oral surgery while pregnant and was everything ok with your baby
Short-term Concerta with Oral Surgery. Am I at risk? This week for three days we have exams worth a third of our entire year. Most people call them Mid-Terms, but we have a weird system. Anyway. My friends and I got a hold of some Ritalin, Adderall and Concerta. Each of us divvied it up, I got Concerta. Suffice to say, they are not specific prescriptions for us, but are prescriptions for trusted friends. The intention is to use for three days, 32mg, to help with studying and test taking. I'm on day two, planning on taking the third dose tomorrow morning before exams. Then that's it. I'm cutting it off, and don't plan to take them again until next year. Only side effect has been insomnia. Only happened once, I have yet to sleep today. Monday (it's Wednesday now, last dose Thursday) I have oral surgery to remove all four of my wisdom teeth. They said I am going to be under anesthesia, and asked if I am taking any medication. I said no, because at the time I wasn't. Am I at any risk going under on Monday b/c of Concerta? My main concern is that I heard Concerta affects blood pressure and heart beat. If I'm going under anesthesia, doesn't that also affect blood pressure and heart rate? I already know that Concerta affects the central nervous system adding chemicals for transmitters, but I thought that Anesthesia does the same thing... After Thursday's dose at 7am, I'm not going to be taking it anymore. That's almost four days (surgery isn't until 2) Concerta free. Will it all be out of my system by then, especially with only 3 days of 32mg use? Any help would be appreciated, except, "Go talk to you dentist about it," because I cannot. I'm his first appointment in 7 days, he's currently on holiday....
what to eat after oral surgery? hi I need some ideas of what to eat after oral surgery thanks
I am a total dentist chicken! Oral Surgery ? I am getting my wisdoms and 2 more pulled, I have opted for oral surgery b/c I am scared of the dentist and want to be put out for the surgery, plus I cant handle anymore toothaches!! Please let me know how your experience was, and keep in mind I have HIGH anxiety!! Everything will be fine...right?
Has anyone had this type of oral surgery before? My 12 year molars aren't in yet, and I'm almost 15. I was referred to an oral and maxillial (sp?) surgeon, and he is going to perform a procedure in which the gum is pulled away and then the molar is brought up. Has anyone had this surgery before, and if so, does it hurt, do they put you to sleep, etc.? Thanks.
Does anyone know of a charity that supplies free oral surgery? I have 2 teeth that need to be taken out but I can't be numbed regularly and the roots are extremely long so it was evaluated as having to be oral surgery. Our local help agencies only pay for simple extractions which we've tried without success. Neither Salvation Army nor United Way knew of anyone. We've checked with 2 dental colleges and each of them require you to pay atleast 50-80% or else sign up for "complete" work--that means you have to keep coming back until THEY say that you are all done, which means I'd have to get my jaw broken and have TMJ surgery which I'm not willing to do. I've also checked with a couple places that pay the patient to pull teeth, but can't get that either because of pre-existing health problems. And no, I can't qualify for the dental credit card either, I tried. If anyone knows of anything, however obscure, please include it.
this ? is for all orthodontists/people who know alot about oral surgery? I have a very severe underbite. It has affected my self esteem in many ways considering I am still in my middle teen years and I cannot smile in pictures without looking mentally retarded. I am wearing braces right now on my top teeth only. I must wear braces according the ortho. for around 2 to three years. is it possible I could get oral surgery to correct this manifestation before my braces come off? two or three years seems like forever to have this horrible bite and I would like to know the fastest way(s) to correct it. I am fourteen. http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h134/DALETAY2/MaxwellLee3.jpg I have a very similar bite to this but my lower jaw is even MORE 'brought out'

In San Jose CA, what is the ball-park price for oral surgery of an impacted wisdom tooth, no dental insurance? This oral surgery is for my nephew, a student who has no dental insurance. It is a requirement prior to joining the Peace Corps.
Dry Socket on left molar extraction and gland swelling on both cheeks after oral surgery.? I had oral surgery One week ago. I was given a 7 day antibiotic and pain killers. A couple days after the surgery I developed a dry socket. I wasn't sure if it was that so I waited and I went to the doctor yesterday (6 days after surgery) and he put a paste in the socket that tastes far from pleasant and gave me pain killers. Last night while rinsing I saw that the gum is floppy on the tooth next to my molar extraction. You could move the entire light pink gum off the tooth. Since yesterday it seems the pain is not as awful but both of my glands have swollen, on both cheeks and the surgery was on my left side. Does anyone know if this is normal? I'm scared because I just finished the antibiotic and now I'm feeling ill. I know I am not allergic to the meds because I've taken them both and this swelling of glands is something that's happened in the last 48 hours. Please offer advice! :)
Has anybody heard of this? My body fights anesthesia. It happened during childbirth, and oral surgery..? I definately remember hearing talking during my hystorectomy. The doctors end up spending more time keeping me medicated than the actual procedure. As I get older, I have things coming up (colonoscopy, more oral surgery, etc) that I keep putting off because of this issue.
Oral surgery in about 3 hours please help!!!? In about three hours I am about to go into oral sugery and I was wondering has this procedure happened to anyone before and if it did, does it hurt, and what should I expect? The oral surgeon is about to expose one of my teeth and also they are going to put a chain on it and pull it down.
Can oral surgery affect you to have a missed period?? I just did a oral extraction of my wisdom teeth about 2 weeks ago and I suppose to have my period 1 week ago... I stll didn't get my period yet.... I remember before I did the extraction my doctor injected some kind of medicine into my body to me into sleep...would that cause a imbalance of my hormone and so it made to me have a missed period?? Yes, I was completely sleeping during the whole surgery.
oral surgery that replaces lost gum tissue...? a friend of mine told me about surgery that replaced some of the gum below her bottom front teeth (using tissue from the roof of her mouth) after she had her braces off... has anyone heard about this before? if so cacn you tell me more about it? thanks so much!!
Cost of Oral Surgery (Removal of all 4 Wisdom Teeth)?????????? I need to get my wisdom teeth removed, and my Dentist refered me to an oral surgeon to get it done. She also told me, that I would have to pay for it up front, and then later on, my insurance company would reimburse me. But I really need to know the cost, so I can save up.

my husband had oral surgery to get wisdom teeth removed. when he woke up from anesthesia i heard him yell? why the doctors told me that after the operation i could see him, so afterwards, after hearing a drill for 1 hour & 45 mins, they called me back to see him, but instead they brought me in an empty room & told me that i couldnt see him. they lied. when i walked out of the empty room, i heard him yell. i asked the nurse why he was yelling & she told me she didnt hear anything, but you know when you hear your spouse yelling, you know its him or her. why did they lie to me??????? why did he yell? was he in pain? was he emotional? the doctors didnt tell me what was up & just left me in the dark & didnt let me see him. why was he yelling? does anyone know? please tell me, i really need to know because im literally going crazy. my husband doesnt care how i feel about to, but in my heart i need to know what really happened because his oral surgeon wouldnt tell me!!!!!!!!!!!! Some of my stitches from my oral surgery broken. What do I do? I had all four of my wisdom teeth removed six days ago. Stitches were required to close the gaps. The surgery went fine. The recovery was quick and fairly painless. After the swelling and pain subsided, I started to eat normal food. I chewed my food as carefully as possible and I stayed away from super-chewy or crunchy food. But here I am on day six after the surgery, and all four sites have a quarter inch of 'string' dangling from them. The dangling stitch as annoying and I'm afraid they'll catch on food and pop even more stitches. Or that they'll harbor bacteria. The wounds are fully closed and the is no pain or swelling. They're scheduled to come out in Wednesday. But today is Sunday, and my dentist is closed. Would it be okay to trim the dangling bits? How would I do it without jamming a huge pair of pointy scissors in my mouth?
I've got stitches in my gums from oral surgery. They are supposed to dissolve on their own.? I had the surgery on Thursday of last week. How long before the stitches dissolve? I feel one back there and it's driving me crazy!
