Have you been in for a cataract removal op ? Hi folks, and I know it all sounds a bit gristly, but after many a year living in the Mid-East, I am discovered to have small cataracts in both eyes. I wondered why things were a bit blurred for a while ! I am booked in for a couple of operations next month, to remove the fatty tissue, but am naturally wary of folks tinkering with my eyeballs. Do you have any experiences of this procedure, and what is it like ? Bob

Cataract removal Private or NHS? Have just visited my optician and been given the news that I have cataracts forming in both eyes. I had noticed my eyesight was slightly worse hence the visit to the optician. Is it worth waiting until my eyesight gets worse and have the operation under the NHS or to go private and get it over with now? has anyone any idea of how much this would cost please? - I have been told to return to be tested in 6 months - also is it best to have this procedure under a full anaesthetic? This question should be in optical - oops not seeing too well !

Eyeball operations - why do I have to take my shoes & socks off ? Hi Folks, I kid you not. I am going for a second cataract removal & bionic lens replacement next Weds. They insist on stripping down to naked, before the op Why? Oh well, I can ignore laser eye treatment, as it won't work on my new plastic lenses,, but toddling around again in an undignified hospital "gown" with your bottom showing is a bit much, when an eyeball should be the focus of attention Please enlighten me ! Bob
28 y/o got a Cataract in 1983 - Blind in my right eye - Should I get surgery? (Lasik need not apply)? When I was 4 years old I got a cataract in my right eye. At that time complete lens removal was the only option. For the past 24 years I have not had strong vision in my right eye due to lens removal. If I close my left eye I can see colors in the distance (15 feet) or able to make out how many fingers a person is holding up as long as there is light behind them (at about 8 feet). With my left eye open, I only see out of my right eye when I think about it. My brain seems to shut it off. Here is what doctors have told me: I could receive the surgery with a 50/50 chance that my eye would become infected and complete eye removal would be necessary, they could do the surgery and I could not notice a difference, slight chance of success. Lasik is not a possibility due to no lens in my eye. My eye is not deformed (it’s not collapsed). I am only able to visit doctors in the Houston area. If you know a mad scientist that would like to put a computer in my right eye..I’m game.
Reiki Healing? I have been attuned to level 1 & 2 by a Reiki Master more than a year ago but have not been able to practice it as there is no such association here. I lost the eyesight of my right eye after a cataract removal operation several years ago. Any suggestions for reversing the damage done by Reiki healing plus other age-related physical ailments. Thanks for your help.
IOL Seclection? I have slight long sight problem for my left eye. The right eye vision is normal, but unfortunately i have cataract in the right eye. I can read with out glasses with little dificulty. I consulted many doctors regarding cataract removal by surgery. They said that selection of IOL is by scanning so I need not use glasses after surgery, since I am not using glasses already. I would like to hear the readers opinion about this.
A Question for those who have had this surgical procedure, PLEASE???e? I am scheduled to have a cataract removed from my right eye next week. It is in its' early stages but it interferes with the clarity of vision I need toward my work. I must admit I am a little afraid, because I so much depend on my vision as a visual artist... What I would like to know is this : 1) Does it hurt, for I am being given a local. 2) Am I to be made to watch the procedure in a mirror above me? 3) How long will the procedure, once it is completed, interfere with my getting back to my daily work? 4) Are there cases where the procedure causes adverse effects...I need my eyes! Both of them preferably? 5) Must I wear an eye-patch afterwards, and for how long? 6) What is the guarantee, percentage wise, that the vision in that right eye, (I had previously had looked through a chink in a burning kiln, a hundred times too many, without protection), will be back to normal? If anyone has gone through cataract removal surgery, would you please be so kind as to help me prepare, by answering these questions. I thank you! Fair enough 2 ask what a cataract is: A membrane which develops causing the lens of the eye to become progressively cloudy, so that vision is impeded from clarity. If caught early as mine was some months ago, it can be lifted off and 1 can see clearly again. If caught a lot later, which has happened to an elderly friend I have, it's hard to remove. It may have damaged the lens to the point where a new lens has 2 be positioned into the eye.As it is now, when I work, my right eyes tears and becomes very cloudy of vision. I especially dislike anything having to do with my eyes, because I depend so much on them for my work. But I must have the surgery done before it becomes worse, and I am constantly doing close work..so I'm grasping at the chance 2 have it corrected NOW! The thought of needles is frightening, Jeopardy! I hate needles. But 2 be put under I am going to suggest! I don't want anything close to my eye! BUT a couple of weeks with a patch will interfere with my daily schedule!!! Thanks grandma..I will insist on going under. I don't like to be touched in the first place. Being touched near the eye would traumatize me...I can assure you of that. Jeopardy mentions an eye patch at night...knowing me, I'll take it off, because ANYTHING which feels foreign to any part of my body I'll pull off especially if I'm sleeping. My concern is not following what the doctor advises and doing myself harm. If I g had to wear a patch during the day, for any interference to the healing process, I will be as angry as a hornet..but I'll try to do my best, not doing anything which will threaten my vision. That is, if I can remember that as a must! No matter!...I have to have this done. It is my fault after all. I was the one who looked into a high intensity fire inside a small-room sized kiln, over and over again - defying practical advise. So here I am, paying the consequences. However to work without my eye tearing and clouding over is something intolerable..so! Thanks all a lot Thank U Patricia, for your entry which has caused me more relief.I have to admit that I'm terrified of hospital atmospheres where 1 feels caught and unable 2 have a say as 2 one prefers. And my elderly friend whose artificial lens had moved, after his waiting forever since his cataract operation 20 years ago, hasn't proven successful. So he's quite blind in the afflicted eye.I don't think there is much more to be done for him and he's 78 now.It is a relief 2 know there'll be no coke bottle bottom glasses after the procedure.Nor walking around bent over.I just would like 2 read, type, write, do my work with both eyes open. For as I'm typing this now, my right eye is closed, because if I open it,I see through a blurriness from the right, and the effort to focus, immediately makes my eye tears. So it's time as they say : to face the "musica", hey? I'll will insist before I'M THERE, at hospital, that I'm put under.I can't imagine needles nor mirrors over me, if I happen 2 look. Thanks LOTS!
PSC Removal & LASIK Question? I'm a 24 y.o. male with Posterior Subcapsular Cataract removed and a ArcySof Toric IOL implanted in the left eye, and Tissue-Saving LASIK in the right done to compensate for the high myopia and Astigmatism difference between both eyes done. VA tests done showed the following: PRE-LASIK Right Eye: SPH: -8.25 CYL: -3.50 AXS: 5 (degree) POST-LASIK Right Eye: SPH: +0.25 CYL: -2.00 AXIS: 155 (degrees) Q: Is this a good outcome from the tissue-saving LASIK procedure? Would enhancement be likely required to achieve best glasses-free vision? POST AcrySof Toric IOL Left Eye: SPH: +1.25 CYL: Nil AXIS: Nil Q: Is this a good outcome for IOL implant? Why is distance vision still blurry (even the LASIK eye seems slightly better)? Would LASIK or any corrective procedure be required for this eye to achieve best glasses-free vision? Q: What does my post procedure eye prescription means? Am I farsighted in both eyes with astigmatism of -2.00 in the right (LASIK) eye as well? Please advise
Get answers from millions of real people.? I had a cataract surgery of my right eye two weeks ago (removal of cataract and insertion of IOL lens). I was chopping red onion and had lot of burning sensation and tears which subsided after about 10 minutes. I did not rub my eyes nor washed with water. I was wondering if the tears by onion odour would have harmed my eye recently operated. Appreciate feedback. Thanks. SKR, Ontario, Canada, 25Oct2008.
How much does laser eye surgery cost for dogs? I have a 10 yr old shih tzu. He is perfectly healthy, with the exception of his eyes. He's been diagnosed with dry eyes (in his left eye), which is being treated. He also has a cataract in that eye... and one ectopic eye lash. I want to know how much laser cataract surgery costs? How much Laser Eyelash Removal costs? and How much freezing the eyelash costs? Please help!!! Sorry, the laser in reference to the cataract surgery was a typo. Just looking for the cost of cataract surgery. The Laser or freezing (cryoepilation) of the ectopic eyelash is common practice in dogs, and is used to permanently remove the eyelash since it is growing the wrong way, in order to prevent ulcers in the eye. So yes, lasers can be used as a cure! Please respond only if you have constructive answers!
Irreducible Complexity-The whole "jackpot or nothing" fallacy? I saw someone answer a question stating that evolution is wrong based on "IC". Why is it that (some) of you christians try to sound smart and assume that biological adaptation is a question of jackpot or nothing? Either the eye sees it or it doesnt. Darwin devoted an entire chapter of the origin of specis to "Difficulties on the theory of descent with modification" Maybe you should pick up a book and read that. When you hear one side of the argument perhaps you should listen to the other side before you just make a judgement. Perhaps that;s too much to ask. I'll just try to sum it up for you. A functioning unit is said to be irreducibly complex if the removal of one of its parts causes the whole to cease functioning. Any intelligent person can immediatley see the fallacy in this. A cataract patien with the lens of her eye surgically removed can't see clear images w/out glasses, but can see enough not to bump into a tree.... to be continued We have seen that eyes are not irreducibly complex. The fact that people have been dead wrong over this should be a lesson. Don't just declare things to be irreducibly complex; the chances are you havent looked carefully at the details, or thought carefully enough about them. If irreducible complexity could be properly demonstrated, it would wreck darwin's theory. (he even said that) but darwin never found a case, or anyone since his time, despite desperate strenous efforts. Nothing has stood up to analysis. Even if IC was ever found, dont you think that it would wreck YOUR theory of ID? Technically if that's what your sitting on then it already has. However little we know about God, the one thing we do know is that he would have to be very very complex and irreducibly so Oh and dont bother bringing up Behe's bacterial flagellar motor to be IC....he offered no argument in favor of his assertion. The key to proving IC is to prove that none of the parts could be useful on its own. And they all need to be in its particular place before they do any good. this has been proven wrong as a whole. Thanks. and special thanks to richard dawkins to his numerous amounts of books that allow me to defeat and belittle these ridiculous arguments
Eye surgery in dogs... please help!? I have a 10 yr old shih tzu. He is perfectly healthy, with the exception of his eyes. He's been diagnosed with dry eyes (in his left eye), which is being treated. He also has a cataract in that eye, and one ectopic eye lash. I want to know how much cataract surgery costs and how successful it is? How much Laser Eyelash Removal costs? and How much freezing the eyelash costs (cryoepilation)? Please help!!! The opthalmologist is treating the dry eye first, and then we go back in a month to recheck the other issues and decide what (if anything) needs surgery. We've gotten a range for the freezing from $500-$2000. But would like to know what people's experiences were, so we know what to expect when we go in for the appointment.

IOL for marfan syndrome... why not? I can't find anyone to place an IOL in my 5 year old sons eye after lens removal. He doesn't have Marfans but our eyes are the same as theirs. Why can a child with cataracts have an IOL placed in, but his subluxed lens can only be removed and no iol placed in until he's 18?
