Cataract surgery? I'm planning to go under surgery in the future but I was wondering will it help improve my vision. I had a cataract surgery when I was little, my doctor took out the lens but had never gave me a new one. I'm 21 now and my vision is terrible. Glasses doesn't help me much since it only allow me to see things clearly but doesn't improve the sight. I was wonder if I do get the surgery will it allow me to see better than when my glasses or is it the same.
What are the different techniques used in cataract surgery? I am in the process of designing a website with videos about certain techniques in cataract surgery. The client gave these "categories", but I feel they're not very organized and consistent. Some seem like conditions, some are actual techniques. Can anyone help with a more logical/generic way of organizing these terms, thereby reducing the number of final categories? Astigmatism Management Capsulorhexis IOL Insertion Irrigation & Aspiration Pediatric Cataracts Phacoemulsification Postoperative Complications Weak Zonules Wound Construction Because I need to break down cataract surgery into categories. I'm asking for suggestions of broader topics of techniques within cataract surgery
Is it a pratice for a person with glacoma to have cataract surgery? My aunt's husband is going to have cataract surgery at one of those eye clinics that specalize in laser, etc. He is old and stubborn and you cannot tell him anything. He had heart surgery about a year ago, is on medication or suppose to be, and never takes it to any medical visits. The pressure in his eyes as I understand was quite high a month ago. Now he is going to have this cataract surgery soon . It it a normal pratice or procedure to do cataract surgery on someone who has glacoma and are these eye clinics safe?
what happens when cataract surgery does not work? A friend of mine had cataract surgery on one eye .... it was successful and when the surgery was performed in the other eye he has experienced weeping and vision is not improved. Can you tell us why?
Has anyone ever sparred after cataract surgery? I am an older boxer who spars at least twice each week. I always wear a headgear and spar with 20 oz gloves. I have been advised that I will need to undergo cataract lens implant surgery soon. After I heal from the surgery will I be able to continue sparring? Has anyone else faced the same problem?
Can anyone tell me what to expect after cataract surgery? I had cataract surgery today on my right eye. I am so scared. My eyelid is sort of droopy still. I had the surgery about 8 hrs ago. When I make an effort to open my eye wider, I notice that I maybe have double vision and that things that should be in my right peripheral vision are seen w/o me focusing to the right. As if these objects are in my direct line of site. Also the Dr who operated stated that he wanted to refer me to a retina specialist because sometimes cataract can be "tricky." I do have a post op appt with my optometrist on tomorrow. Help, does anyone have any idea what's going on?
What are typical affects of cataract surgery? My dad just had cataract surgery done in one eye, the other is scheduled next week. His eye is still blood shot and blurred vision almost a week later. What is concerning us is the fact that when he see's bright lights (car lights, street lights) he says its like seeing fireworks or a ferris wheel the way the vision is...... Are these typical affects? Should he be worried? Will it wear off? The affects of the light are in the eye he had surgery on....also notices a halo around headlights....he's only 50. I wanted to research this more before he goes in for the second operation
I am disabled and need cataract surgery? I have COPD, diabetes, congestive heart failure, torn ACL and LCL ligaments in my knee and now I find I have to have cataract surgery in my right eye. I am so afraid of having this surgery. Is it a bad operation? I feel like I have been crying for the past 4 weeks, since I found out, or am I just being silly. I am 55 years old and a grandmother of 5 and I used to be a very strong person and everyone still looks to me for help.
Should I still be nearsighted after cataract surgery? I am disappointed that I am still nearsighted after cataract surgery. I trust my Dr. but thought I would be seeing much better after the surgery and am still a -1.25. This is better than before the surgery but is it normal?
Which type of cataract surgery should I choose? I need a cataract removed. It can be done with local or general anesthesia. I would like local but I tend to have panic attacks, I also have asthma. How hard is general anesthesia on the body? The surgery is about 1 hour. there is the full prep for general.
Why do people's eyes look all wiggly after they've had cataract surgery? If you look at their pupils it appears that something keeps moving/reflecting light even after their eyes stop moving. I've noticed this about various people/actors but it was only after someone I know had cataract surgery that I started noticing it on them. Does the new lens perhaps float around in there? Wouldn't that annoy the people who have to look through them all day?
will the perfect, bright vision immediately after cataract surgery gradually become normal in 3or 4 weeks? the patches were removed the following day of cataract surgery on my right eye. the vision was very bright and perfect. after nearly a month cataract surgery was per formed on the left eye. when the patches were removed the vision was not that bright or perfect as it was the case on the right eye. i applied the drops prescribed by the doctor. will the vision become normal gradually? could any ophthalmologist explain it?
How is membrane been formed after cataract surgery? How will my vision be like if I leave it as it is for the next 2 years and will there be prolong side effect if I decided to laser treatment it after 2 years? How will it affect my vision after the laser treatment? Yes Lori that is what i mean :) but the point is that i am almost into the 5th month of my left eye cataract surgery and 4th month of my right eye. I can still see very clearly. I don't think I feel or see any cloudy vision due to the membrane. Is this normal? I am 34 yrs old. Usually how long will it take for this second cataract to form right after cataract surgery?
Around how much does cataract surgery for a dog cost? I have read on a google search anywhere from $1500.00 - $3000.00. Can this be correct?? b_bardi...I have needed glasses for years but not bad enough to spend around 400.00 to get them, so I move a little closer to what I need to see rather than spending the money, so that isn't a good question to ask me.
Who has had cataract surgery with a lens implant? I had it a while ago and when I look really closely at my eye in the mirror, I can see like a sort of reflection when my eye moves. I can only see it when I am very very close to the mirror. Is this normal? My doc said it was light reflecting off of the lens implant. Does anyone else have this?
What has retinal tear got to do with post cataract surgery and laser clearance of membrane? Is there anyway I can take care of my eyes from such? What are some of the complications I have to be wary too? thanks Jennifer I am touched! But one thing i like to ask you though in such as a case for laser clearance of membrane (if i used the term correctly), is it technically called 'surgery' with perhaps surgical tables involved? This is because my insurance said will not pay unless its a surgical procedure and the doctor said its not. i am confused.
Who has had a lens implant with their cataract surgery? Have you noticed, if you have the single focus implant, that if you try to focus on something up close, that your vision sort of shakes? Just wondering if I am alone on this one. Its weird because my other eye tries to focus and can do so, but my eye with the implant also tries to focus but since it can't, the vision sort of shakes, and you can see a reflection sort of shake when you look really closely in the mirror.
Question for those who have had cataract surgery? I had it yesterday and today I can see but not perfectly. It is definitly corrected but in no way is it 20/20. How long did it take you guys to get to 20/20 after an IOL was implanted? Also did you see double vision for a while?
Who has had cataract surgery with a lens implant? I had it 3 months ago. When I focus on up close writing with a bifocal or reading glasses the image shakes a bit. I went to my surgeon and he had no idea what it was. The lens definitly is not moving around he checked to make sure. Does anyone have the image just shake a bit when you focus on something up close?
I had Cataract surgery in my right eye about 4 weeks ago and? I just noticed yesterday that I can see what I think may be the new lens moving along with my heartbeat. I confirmed with 4 people that they see something moviing in the center of my eye. The pigment in my operative eye now seems lighter than the other. Any input is appreciated!

Cataract surgery? I am going to have my second cataract surgery.Do the new lenses ever fall out or become old ? Would you be able to see without the plastic lense ? Thanks in advance.
Cataract surgery? I have to get this surgery, i have been to many different specialist and they all say that my optic lense is not shaped right because the connective tissue that hold it in place has torn so in effect caused them to lose their correct shape. So now they say this complicates the surgery because they aren't sure if they have enough connective tissue for the optical lense implants. Has anyone else had this issue and know of what would be the alternative if the connective tissue doesnt hold the implant in place?
cataract surgery? Hi. my dad had an appointment for his first cataract to be removed last thursday. they wouldn't let people in the room with patients so i can't answer any questions that my dad has. he says they made an incision in his eye, but doesn't know what else happened (my dad is hard of hearing so gets mixed up with what people say). my question is, firstly he didn't get any eye drops to bring home, anyone know why this would be? also he still cannot see any better out of the eye after a week, should his sight be clearer now? i don't want to bother the hospital so any help would be appreciated.
cataract surgery? how bad is this surgery on someone in their 70's and how long does it take them to heal so they can see?
Cataract Surgery and smoking? I just recently had cataract surgery where they put a lens in my eye last week and I was wondering what the effects of smoking tobacco or other substances will do or not do to my eye.I was wondering if the change in eye pressure is not good for the healing.
Cataract Surgery/Bifocals? I'm 23, I originally had iritis, which started at age 19 and eventually lead to cataracts in both eyes. I had cataract surgery about a year ago. After the surgery I got bifocals. The lens that was put into both eyes is unable to focus like a normal lens, therefor I can only see far away, my eye cant focus up close without the bifocals. I find myself with a constant hurting neck because I have to lift my head up in order to see things infront of me that are close. For instance, I have a desk job, lots of computer work, I cant look directly at the comp because I end up looking through the top part of the glasses so I have to raise my chin a little to be able to look directly at the computer screen through the bottom portion of my glasses. I was just wondering if anyone else has the same problem? Have you figured out a better way to do things? Should I just get 2 pairs of glasses, although I dont want to constantly have to change glasses depending on what I want to do. I am using non progressive lenses. I had no insurance and was unable to pay for the surgery and care and a foundation actually helped me out. They paid for the glasses and would not pay for more than they had to (dont blame them) so I got stuck with these.
Cataract surgery won't help? My Mom had cataract surgery a couple weeks ago and still sees blurry. The doctor said she is different than other people because she had 6 astigmatiziums(sp?) and other people don't usually have that many. She also has dry macular deneration and has glycoma but it's not the usual type, and I believe was fixed. Do you think eventually she'll see again or will she always be blurry now with no glasses to fix? I'm thinking maybe once she gets new glasses that the new prescription will work with what they did in the cataract surgery. Opinions?
Cataract surgery & ischemic stroke? My grandmother is 83. She has recently undergone eye cataract surgery for her left eye and after 3 days she suffered an ischemic stroke. It's been more than 6 months since that and she is planning to undergo a surgery for her right eye (she also has a cataract at this one eye too). Is it possible that she suffers a second stroke? Please, provide a detailed response if possible.
I'm having cataract surgery next month and i'm only 16...just asking but...? Ok i had 4 surgeries last year which was Retinal Detachment and Glaucoma. I know needed those surgeries and i got cataract in my right eye. So i'm having cataract and the oil removed from my eye surgery. About Cataract post surgery and Lasik? I have healed well from my cataract surgeries which were done in May 2007. 1) When can I start to go for 20 minutes jogging after the surgery? 2) When can I go for swimming? (and can I swim without the swim goggles?) 3) How long will this good vision last, I mean could it last over the next 30 years or more (I am 34 yrs old now and have a 20/20 vision) 4) Can you explain the theory behind this implant lens that helped to improve the vision significantly? About Lasik 1) Can I go for Lasik in the future if my vision slack (since I have cataract surgery before) 2) for normal people, will lasik help them to improve their vision to 20/20 and even better? 3) Is US$1700 expensive for lasik of both eyes?
Cataract Surgery Problem, I think? I had cataract surgery on my right eye Dec. 5.I had a lens put in. My eye gradually got better, but then this morning at 4a.m. I lost the vision that I had gotten. It's worse than it was before I got the surgery. Everything is very blurry, I can make out shapes and tell light from dark, but that is it, and its only in my right eye, I can still see out of my left. I have had no, problems at any of the follow up visits, and don't go back until Feb 23 to start surgery for my left eye. Has anyone had this problem before. As you know its the holidays,I called the emergency # for my doc but have yet to hear from him, and I am very much worried. One last thing last night, I was watching tv and noticed like a gold ball go across my eye?? But I could still see. please if anyone has any info I would love to know. I hope this is normal. Thanks
after cataract surgery, can the new lens slip out of place or is it stitched into place? If it can slip out of place, are you able to feel it floating around in there? Why else would an eye blur months after cataract surgery? thanks DRW, it takes 3 mos to get an appt. one eye has been defogged but the doc was super hesitant to do that defog saying using the YAG laser would cause both black and clear floaters which might interfere with seeing properly.
Eye infection after cataract surgery needs another surgery now, please only professional answers. Thank you? My mother got a persistent eye infection after cataract surgery. She was treated several times with antibiotics and drainage of the tear duct several times. She ended up with a severe eye infection that required her to be admitted to the hospital with IV antibiotics and steroids for the inflamation. Now she is home on po antibiotics and the plan is to have a surgery in 2 weeks to remove the tear duct (?). Not sure of the type of surgery as she is older and cannot explain to me. As I live in another country I worry how serious the surgery may be and what it entails. She mentioned general anesthesia.... Anyone knows the name of this surgery, the risks and the recovery afterwards? Will she need someone with her all the time? If you are not familiar please refrain from answering, only professional and educated replies please as I need to decide whether to fly and stay with her for awhile Thank you in advance

Complications after Cataract surgery? My 61 year old mom had a cataract surgery in oct 07. The doc said there was fluid retention after 4 weeks. After another 4 weeks he says fluid retention has reduced but he is not sure, if there is a patch like thing or not. Sick after cataract surgery...normal? I had cataract surgery yesterday morning. I felt fine yesterday, but today I started feeling sick. Like I had a migraine... really bad headache, sick to my stomach. Should I be worried? My doctor has an emergency after hours number, but I feel stupid calling. Any suggestions?
irritation after cataract surgery - and treatment? My grandpa just had cataract surgery two weeks ago in one eye and he complains of a constant "rubbing, itching" discomfort which hasn't gone away. I figure this is normal but since he worrys a lot I'd like to give him an educated answer to provide some relief. What causes this sensation? How long can this last? Are there any topical treatments which may help his discomfort? Thanks.
Any radialkeratonomy patients have cataract surgery? I had RK surgery done on both my eyes in 1985. My doctor moved and no longer has my records which showed my original cornea measurements. I now need cataract surgery in both eyes but am afraid to get it done as I'm not sure if they will be able to properly correct my vision without those measurements. One doctor said he would have to take his best guess when ordered the replacement prescription lenses. Anyone have that problem. Have to repeat, the original measurements were destroyed per the doctor/hospital at which I had the procedure. They are no longer available anywhere. Currently, my vision is around 20-40. My left eyes is better at far vision and my right eye which is still a little miopic is better for close up. I rarely wear glasses now - sometimes for very small print and sometimes when long distance driving but on a daily basis, do pretty well without them. I truly hate to lose this.
how soon to fly after cataract surgery questions. thank you!? I asked this questions yesterday and appreciate all the wonderul answers. Here is my delimma. My mother in law is here in Michigan, she is due to fly home to Florida on the 28th of July. Her second cataract surgery for her other eye is on the 24th. I know that you have to have the day after, next week 2nd week and 3rd week follow-up, according to her doc. I spoke with the nurse and told her that this is a money issue, she cannot afford to change her ticket or stay away from home any longer she has been here 2 months. Nurse said the only reason for her not to fly was because she has to see her doc for follow up and no other surgeon is happy about seeing another doc's patient for a follow up. I understand that as well, but in this situation can it be done? She does have an eye doc in Florida. Or the other way to go would be to just have the doc in florida do the other eye or have her doc here recommend someone in Florida to do the other eye? Any opinions? I'm at a loss here :(
Foreign object in eye after cataract surgery? My mother just had cataract surgery a few days ago. She's got a small bit of debris in the eye....not bothering her too much but as you can imagine she'd like to get it out lol. The eye doctor said not to get water or anything else near her eye, she is still using the drops of course. Is there a SAFE sterile way (to avoid infection) to get this out of her eye? Should she just leave it and hope she can tear it out? Is saline solution safe? I thought of using a Q-tip to get it out, but I don't think that would be sterile enough & worried about the fibers getting in the eye & making it worse. Thanks
Have you had any experience with cataract surgery? I had cataract surgery a little over two weeks ago and twice, now, have had blood vessels to burst in the white part of that eye. I go to Dr. next week but need to know if I should be concerned and give her a call. I guess I could have asked in the health topics but would rather have answers from personal experience. BTW I did as much research on this as I could but found no answers.
Bi-focal lens vs mono-focal len used in cataract surgery? I heard my eye surgeon mentioned that after cataract surgery with standard implant len (i.e mono focal len). 1) As such, is there any SPECIAL instances that such patients will still be able to read library books like normal people does but with lower contrast? (without using reading glass) or it is generally impossible after surgery? 2) with Bi-focal len i understand that these patients would be able to read their books and see far. But how does it works? Is it a seamless process like a normal person (without visual aid) does or he/she has to read like someone with progress lens does? 3) how does these lens actually looks like physically? I thought its really something like a concave shape len or am I wrong?
Is it worth to have my 13 yo dog undergo cataract surgery? My 13 year old mini Daschund has been diagnosed diabetes about a month ago and is now practically blind from cataracts. She's been treated like a real part of the family for quite a while; in fact, I can't remember what my life was like before we got her (I was 5 or 6) and It breaks my heart to see her bump into things or going past us without realizing we're there. It's like she's not the same anymore (even at her age, she'd run like hell after a ball and behave as if she was 3). Point is, we want to do everything we can to at least restore some of her sight, so she can see us, see where she is and where to go, so she can be herself again. We've heard that cataract surgery is quite expensive (around $2000 or more), but again, we'd do anything for her. My concern are the risks involved. She has a minor heart condition, but has no symptoms whatsoever. It's always a tough decision to make: leave it as it is or risk things and give the dog a better life. What would you do?... Obviously, I know that 13 isn't that old for the breed. She's quite small, and, under normal circumstances, they're due to live up to 18 or so.
Does anybody know if there are effective alternativies to cataract surgery? Hello, I have cataract in both eyes despite beeing quite young (I'm in my early thirties). I would like very much to avoid surgery because of complications in my particular case. I have done many research on the Internet and I have found the following alternatives: -Bates method and other eye exercises -omeopathy (Eyebright drops, other herbs, etc) - nutritional approach (vitamins, avoid certain food) My big question is: Do they work? Have you had direct experience of anybody beeing cured with these alternative approaches? Many thanks everyone!
Cataract surgery - should I get single vision or ReStor lens? My research is not getting me anywhere so I thought I would try Yahoo Answers friends. I am interested in finding out the downside/upside of surgery itself, of single vision, of ReStor lens. I am scheduled to have my worst eye done on 12/6 and then the other 2 weeks later. Am concerned to say the least because I am a computer programmer and without good vision, no money. My eyes, other than the cataracts, are very healthy and I have no other health issues. It is beggining to sound like single vision is the safest way to go?
Cataract Surgery? Please answer my questions? I am twenty but the dr said I was getting cataracts. My eyes have got worse. What I want to know is, if I get the surgery, will I be asleep or unconcious during the whole time? Does it hurt a lot? When will I be able to see again and do I need complete assistance for a while? Thank you for all your answers.

Cataract surgery from diabetes?????? My Husband had cateract surgery 7 years ago that went perfectly. This morning He had the same surgery on the second eye. It did not go well. When they were ready to suction out the clouded lens, it fell into the back of the eye and it temporarily blinded him. The vision is better since coming home but still very poor. Next week He will have to have a more invasive eye surgery in the Hospital to correct the problem. Has anyone every heard of this happening before? We are very comfortable with these Drs. But distressed at the moment. He has seen this same group and the same Dr. for seven years. I would be greatful for any input on this situation. Thanking you in advance for your responses. The Doctor got the lens in but stll has to do the more invasive surgery to get the clouded lens out of the back of the eye.
Post cataract surgery? I have recently had a cataract removed after a penetrating eye injury in May. I have loads of black spots floating in my vision, a blurrring right in the centre of my eye and flashing blue and white lights. The flashes are only small but are ghetting more frequent. Any ideas?? I have got an appt next week but was wondering whether I should phone them today.
After cataract surgery, how long for Econopred Plus and Nevanac drops? My eye doctor insistes that I use the drops for 6 weeks after cateract surgery; but the package inserts say two weeks for Nevanac and ten days for Econopred Plus. I have dry eye and that makes this even more pressing as they warn about that. The MD says 6 weeks is standard and the benefits outweigh the risks. Do you have any knowlwdge of this?

Will surgery to repair a detached retina cause cataracts to form immediately after the surgery? had eye surgery 3 weeks ago to repair a detached retina and was told the was a possibility that cataracts might occur sometime in the future. I went in for 2 checkups during the 3 week period and was told everything looked fine. Now today 22 days after the surgery, I still cannot see anything at all out of the repaired eye and was told I need cataract surgery ASAP, that the retina surgery caused the cataracts to form almost immediately. The surgeon is losing credibility, as I went from doing very well to needing a second almost immediate surgery in the space of two weeks. Can anyone tell me if this is an expected outcome of surgery for a detached retina. Thanx
