Laparoscopic Gallbladder Surgery Knowledge Base
Where do I find estimated cost of Laparoscopic gallbladder surgery? I need to know the avg to make sure I'm not paying too much since I have no insurance. Very helpful The hospital said the Hospital fee would be around 32k but their package for patients w/o insurance would be $3,300 if it's an outpatient surgery and includes anesthesia. If there are other tests or complications there cost would be higher. I'm sure they will need a special x-ray to see the gallbladder. Your rates listed is for Hospital costs only correct? The surgeon is charging around $2,600 so I'm left to pay around 7-10k out of pocket which doesn't include the emergency visit and all the tests to diagnose the stones and any meds I need. Any way to find that chart for the state of Illinois?
Will having laparoscopic surgery delay the menstrual cycle? I had laparoscopic gallbladder surgery on August 20th. I have recovered very well and the stitches are to be taken out tomorrow. I have always had very normal periods but I was supposed to start on the 23rd. It is now the 27th and I still haven't started. Could the surgery be why I'm late? They took a pregnancy test before the surgery and it was negative. My husband and I haven't had sex since the surgery.
Laparoscopic gallbladder surgery ? Question Details: my mom had Laparoscopic gallbladder surgery about week ago , and she has a lot of gas and she not able to fart etc is there anything for this ??
After Laparoscopic Gallbladder Surgery? Hi. I had my gallbladder removed Wednesday June 4th.. And it's been three days and I haven't had a bowel movement. I know everyone is different to when their bowels start to react after surgery, but about how many days on average does it take before your bowels are normal?? Thanks!!
Have You Had Laparoscopic Gallbladder Surgery? I HAVE to have it done and I'm scared!! Please reply ONLY if you've had it done recently. Questions: 1. Recovery Time? How long after did you feel yourself, and could go back to work? 2. I've heard people are more nauseous AFTER the surgery than before, from the gallbladder not there to aid in digestion. I'm at the point where I vomit 15 minutes after meals, and am on a very strict bland diet so I don't have an attack. Is it worse than that? 3. Do you gain weight? I am thin and would like to stay that way. And I'm just plain scared. Any information would be helpful. Thanks!
I had laparoscopic gallbladder removal surgery on monday and one of the 4 tiny incisions is draining? is this normal? it looks like a mixture of puss and blood, it is not open though, its draining slowly so its not like it dangerously gushing or anything though, but should it be draining at all? I put a bandaid on it just to protect it with some neosporin, do you think this is a good enough concern to call the doctor about in the morning? all the other incisions are not draining at all just this one, and ive only noticed bruising around this one also, not the others. im a 21yr old female and i had the surgery monday afternoon, they told me i could take the dressings off in 24hrs and shower and i did.
Does anyone know whether surgery to remove gallbladder cause heartburn, why and how long is it going to last? I just had a laparoscopic surgery to remove the gallbladder because of gallstones. A week after that, I started to have acid reflux and heartburn. I don't know whether it's caused by bile reflux due to the removal of the gallbladder or whether the 2 tablets of Omeprazole 20mg I've been taking is causing the problem or whether it's the 1 tablet of Etoricoxib 120mg I've been taking for the past 6 days. I'm really suffering now. I wonder how long is it going to last. Has anyone who had gone through a gallbladder removal surgery tell me if they had the same experience?
Has anyone had complications during Gallbladder surgery? Was told Dr. cut a blood vessel & I bled alot (?)? I had laparoscopic gallbladder surgery this past Friday, 9/01/06. After the surgery the surgeon talked to my husband and told him my gallbladder was in bad shape and had probably been bad for a while and had just started giving me trouble. He also told him there was a complication. He had a hard time getting the gallbladder out and had to cut it out instead of the normal scraping it out..he said he accidently cut a blood vessel and I bled alot during surgery. I haven't been able to talk to the dr who did this yet but was wondering if anyone has had this experience or knows of someone who has?? Should I be worried? I have had so much pain, if my pain meds wear off at all I'm hurting pretty bad. When I started coming to in recovery I was hurting so bad I though I had woke up during surgery..but had been out of surgery for a cpl of hrs. I was begging for pain meds. the nurse said she couldn't give me anymore she had already given me 3 shots of demoral and a percocet pill. normal?

Post Gallbladder surgery pain in lower abdomen for 10 months!? A family member had a laparoscopic gallbladder surgery 10 months ago. Since then he has had pain in his lower abdomen below his navel that he describes as feeling like a 'sunburn' on the inside. This pain is noted during any movement. He's had a scan of the area and a colonoscopy that turned out negative. He feels that the CO2 used to inflate his belly may have stretched the area, even may have torn it, and caused this pain. Could he still have CO2 in his belly? Could he be allergic to the CO2? His family doctor had him take 2 ibuprofen 3 times a day for a week. This helped reduce the pain but did not eliminate it. Has anyone else experienced this or have an idea as to what the problem is? His surgeon says he can't help him unless he wants surgery. He returns to his family doctor in a week. Thanks!
Gallbladder surgery coming up what to expect? Ok so I am having laparoscopic surgery to remove my gallbladder on the 13th of this month. While I fully intend to ask the surgeon some questions before hand, I was wondering if some people could give me some insite in their personal experiences with this. I am 25 and have 4 kids under 8 and I was wondering how long I will be out of it before I'm up to fully caring for them again. Should I make and freeze a few meals beforehand so I can pop them in the oven for a few days after the surgery? What was the pain and recovery like for you? How long after you came out of surgery till you were able to go home? Any stories about your own gallbladder surgeries will be appreciated, I am a little nervous. Thanks
Pain after gallbladder surgery?? I just had my gallbladder removed on the 29th of Jan. (Laparoscopic surgery) and everything went fine...I even talked to my surgeon who said surgery was perfect. Lately if I eat anything with any kind of fats I get the same pain but it to me feels much worse than the gallstone pain, in the same spot. ( upper left abdominal area) It sent me to the hospital by ambulance. It also radiates to my back and this time it went to the right side also. I feel lots of burning in the right upper abdominal area but the burning is not painful. I'm scared cause i lost 70 lbs in 4 months due to the gallstones and having my baby in Oct. I just don't know what to do I eat only about 1 meal a day cause I'm too scared to eat anything, i don't want that pain to come back. What could it be??
Who has had a laparoscopic cholecystectomy/gallbladder removal? I had my gallbladder removed 2 weeks ago because of a low ejection fraction. I kind of wish I didn't do it. Is things going to get better? Every single time I eat fruits or vegetables, straight to the bathroom. I have high cholesterol and I am supposed to be on a low fat diet also, but if I can't eat fruits or vegetables how is that going to happen. I have lost 8 pounds since the surgery. Is there anything out there to make the diarrhea stop. I had the surgery to stop the diarrhea, but I don't think it is going away anytime soon.
gas pains after gallbladder surgery? I just had Gas laparoscopic cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal) on Wednesday. I have pain equivalent to the worst experienced pain of contraction during labor when I try to lay down. I've spent two nights sitting up on the couch to sleep. When I change from sitting to standing or standing to sitting, I get the pain all over again. It is NOT just in my right shoulder, it's all over, left shoulder and chest one time, then it moves to my back or my belly button, it's just all over and it's excruciating! I CAN NOT take a deep breath in ANY position. I'm miserable. Is this feeling normal or did my doctor screw up? My steri-strips stink and I'm having diarrhea. The three top insicions are not painful at all to touch, but if I come close to the incision at my belly button it sends pain like shockwaves through my body! Thanks for sharing your experiences if you've recently gone through it. If your're a doctor or nurse, any advise is appreciated! My surgeons office is useless. THX I have no fever. Temp has been 95.4 for 2 days. I might research the fluid build-up theory. I'd love to lay down in my bed and sleep. And I'd love to just take a deep breath...yawn...or say a complete sentence without pain! Thanks for the help so far!
Gallbladder Surgery Questions? I am having gallbladder surgery on Tuesday and I am so nervous! But also, just ready for it to be over with! I am having laparoscopic. My questions are: What is it like to be "konked out"? And how do they konk you out? How is recovery? (I have had a C-section, and was wondering if the pain is worse than that or less) If there is a stone in the duct, will it have to end up being an open surgery instead of laparoscopic? (My doc said my duct was a little more dilated than what people my age is supposed to be, I'm 25) I do not have jaundice. Will walking around help make the air get out quicker? Will I have to have a catheter? (I am on my period) Any and all advice if you have been through it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much! :)
Can i go without bandages after laparoscopic surgery? I had my gallbladder removed 5 days ago, and i have no pain or discomfort, but my bandages are irratating me, ive tried gauze pads with surgical tape, adhesive pads and regular bandaids, but they all make me itchy and red. Can i go without them, if i wear white (so no dye gets on them)? I also have the surgical tape the surgeon put on the 4 small incisions. My follow up appointment is aug. 1st.
What size surgical clamp is generally used in the laparoscopic removal of the gallbladder? I had my gallbladder removed and was recently told that I had two clamps left inside me. I didn't see the xrays and imagined they must be small, but I wanted to see what size range would be used for that type of surgery. I have some pain at times and always thought that it was from the adhesions, but now I am wondering given this new revelation. Two doctors doing unrelated procedures told me about the clamps. Neither suggested I do anything, but I have been bothered by the thought and the occasional pain. It is not debilitating. I want them out now, but I don't want more surgery. I am surprised by how little the two doctors who saw the xrays said about it. I would think it would have been more of a problem to them. I had the surgery in the mid 1990's.
Laparoscopic gallbladder removal scars? I'm going in for surgery 5/7 and would like to know if there is anything I can do to help prevent horrible scars. I know it is partly your genetics, but I was wondering if there are some additional things I can do. Please help I've see people with barely visable scars to very dark red and keloid type scarring.
Post-operative pain from Laparoscopic Hernia Repair? I had laparoscopic hernia repair 7 days ago & still in significant pain. The pain is centralized where the mesh was placed & at the site of the incisions. My abdomen feels tender, distended & like I have a lot of gas. I'm unable to pick anything up, I can only lay on my back & the narcotics I'm on (Norco) aren't taking the edge off my pain. They only make me feel loopy, which is of no hellp at all. I've had laparoscopic surgery before (gallbladder removed) & felt better with each passing day post surgery. I've also had two c-sections, with my most recent being 3 months ago (twin pregnancy, thus the hernia). I healed quickly from all of them & never had this kind of pain. I've left several messages for the surgeon to call me & he hasn't yet. I finally saw my General Practioner yesterday & she said I need to talk to the surgeon. Any ideas on why I'm having this kind of pain and why the Norco isn't working? Should I try another pain medication? Is this typical 7 days out? Thanks "I Do Care." I saw my surgeon and I'm having an inflammatory reaction to the mesh. This happens to about 3% of the people that have this kind of mesh placed in them. They put me on a strong, prescription anti-inflammatory and I'm doing a lot better. The bummer part is my body could respond to the mesh like this for months. I'm hoping not, because I hate taking the narcotics.
Laparoscopic Cholestectomy (gallbladder removal)? I am a 20 year old female and I am having a laparoscopic cholestectomy next week. I am nervous and excited at the same time. I have been suffering for over a year and was misdiagnosed and had numerous tests before finally finding out that my gallbladder is not functioning properly. I do not have stones, my gallbladder just doesn't function properly. I have read so many bad things on the internet and was looking for some positive stories. Also, if anyone has the same condition or has had the surgery, anything reassuring would be great. Please nothing negative, I've read enough of that and scared myself. I already know what the gallbladder does and what's wrong with mine. I know I have to stay overnight in the hospital and I know they cannot guarantee that it will fix the problem, but I was told it is medically necessary and not a choice. I can put it off, put the symptoms are unbearable most of the time and I miss school and work a lot because of them. I know things can go wrong and had to sign forms acknowledging that. Please give me some positive feedback! Thank you in advance!
Gallbladder surgery issues? I am post-op laparoscopic cholecystectomy July 22, 2008. I had minor complications after surgery including dermatitis from the steri-strips and a tear of my common bile duct from a large stone which was extracted. Ever since surgery, whenever I eat, be it something small like an apple, or a large full course meal, about 20 minutes after eating, I break out in a sweat and spike a low-grade fever up to about 99.8 which lasts approximately 30 minutes. This seems quite bizarre to me. I'm wondering if this is due to my new digestion process or perhaps a low grade infection? Thank you for your help.
Post Op Laparoscopic surgery? Just had my gallbladder removed, what can i do to ease the pain, and how long will it take, its hard to sleep face up all night, because of the 4 holes in the stomach whats a good way to sleep any god advice or what can i do right now to recover faster? gracias probrecita, hopefully i start feeling better soon
Can gallbladder gangrene lead to gallbladder cancer ? My dad yesterday had his gallbladder removed by laparoscopic surgery because of formation of gallstones in his bladder. The doctors said its normally 1 to 1.5 hrs long surgery but it took almost 4 hours , because they said my dad's Gbladder was heavily damaged, it had gangrene , formed septic, puss and had stick to other organs besides it. So it took just 3 hours to separate the Gbladder . The doctor said in his 25 yr old career he has never seen Gbladder so severely in bad state and YET the patient was showing no symptons and was perfectly fit and normal till surgery . My dad had just 2 Gbladder attacks one 3 months back for which an doctor gave some medicine and the pain stopped but last month back he again had abdominal pain and then it was diagnosed he was suffering from gallstone problem now we have send the removed gallbladder(it had gone all blackish and like scars formed on it) as specimen to pathlogy lab for further investigation of the specimen(gbladder). I was reading about gallstones on net to get more information about his problem and there I read about gallbladder cancer too. I am scared and the reports are coming on 20th oct , is gallbladder gangrene and Gbladder cancer anyway related ? Btw, he is 57. no other health problems. He is responsding to medicines and communicating well with us after the surgery. A tube from his nose which is gone to his stomach removes an yellow liquid continuously which the nurse said it BILE (it is greenish in colour) and an abdominal drain also used to remove the stuff from the cavity formed after removal of gallbladder though nothing is coming out of it just few red liquid which was just yesterday nothing today, though the greenish bile is continuously coming out. the doctor said he normally discharged such patients in 3 days and removes the nose pipe in 24 hours but for my dad's case he wants him to be under observation right now for 5 days which can increase too and keep the nose pipe and abdominal drain for 5 days too coz he wants the septic things to come out and said he will be using best medicines and antibiotics
Can bloating cause nausea? Hello, on Tuesday I had laparoscopic gallbladder surgery (completely removed) and now it is Saturday and the pain is gone, however, since Thursday I have felt like I have air in my throat and like I have to burp but I can't. The air in my throat almost feels like a gag reflex, it's weird, and it's making me nauseous. Do any of you get bloating so bad it gives you nausea? I don't really feel the bloating in my stomach as much as I do in my throat. Is there anything I can do to get rid of this bloating (or whatever it is)? (I get it after every time I eat). Thanks!
Gallbladder removal...? I am due to have my gallbladder removed next week by laparoscopic surgery. For those of you who have had theirs removed this way, could you please fill me in on the procedure and after effects of having it removed. Pain levels also. I have had two C-Sections so I'm not worried about the pain as much as long is it is not comparable. How long was it before you were out and about. I need to be able to take care of my children when I return. Thanks!
Life after gallbladder removal? I had my gallbladder removed yesterday after having many, many problems with it for the past 2 years. I feel fine today other than the soreness of the surgery (laparoscopic) I have resumed eating as normal, just not over doing it. I want to know what I can expect from now on. I have heard everything from rapid weight loss/gain to severe diarrhea. Can someone (preferably someone who has had this done) tell me what to expect now that I have my gallbladder removed? Thanks!
My gallbladder hurts like hell and I think I may have to have surgery... I'm scared as hell...? I've had pain for about 10 years off and on. I'm now 24 and it's been bugging me again lately. I'm thinking about having it removed during the summer. But I've read so much that many people continue to have same if not worse pain after surgery. Plus I'm scared as hell of the surgery itself, even though "it's not that painful". I'm worried laparoscopic won't work on me and they'll have to make a full incision cuz my gallbladder's really f***ed up! Help. I need advice. :(
Anyone here ever had their gallbladder taken out? Apprently my gallblader isn't working right and I need to have it removed. (Laparoscopic surgery). I was just wondering how you felt after the surgery....was there any pain when you woke up, and for how long do you have to recover? Do they give you pain meds when you leave the hospital, and finally...how are you now? Did you have to change your diet? Any info will help....thanks
Will I feel better if my Gallbladder is removed? I was told that i have gallstones and the only way to remove them is surgery. I was thinking of removing them like this: Ursodeoxycholic acid For patients who cannot receive the laparoscopic procedure, there is also a nonsurgical treatment in which ursodeoxycholic acid is used to dissolve the gallstones. Extracorporeal shock-wave lithotripsy has also been successfully used to break up gallstones. During the procedure, high-amplitude sound waves target the stones, slowly breaking them up. Now the thing is how much is the cost and are there any side effects?
Question about stitches/sutures following surgery....? I had a laparoscopic gallbladder op on march 18th-----came home with butterfly stitches holding the external wounds closed and the rest internal stitches-----went to the surgeoun on the 31st of March and he removed two "internal" stitches that had made their way to the surface.....well two of the incision sites still have a small stitch sticking out of them. They are sry and healing but slightly red/pink around that little stitch sticking out. My question is, WHY would internal stitches come to the surface instead of being absorbed? (I am going to have my neighbor who is a PA remove them today, just wondering if anyone knew why they come up.)
I really need to have my gallbladder removed soon, I'm in a lot of pain, but college is a problem? I'm 19 and have gallstones. I've been having really horrible attacks since last year, but recently found out that it was my gallbladder. My attacks are extremely painful and last about 12 hours and I absolutely need to go to the ER and get pain and nausea meds when they occur. I don't feel well afterwords for several days. Lately, I haven't been feeling all too well normally, either. Now I get attacks about every month. I need to have my gallbladder removed and they almost gave me emergency surgery last time. I am a college student and I can't miss very many classes and I don't have vacation until winter. I will be miserable and miss a couple classes from going to the ER if I don't get the surgery yet, but I don't know if getting the surgery would be worse. I also need to be able to climb up 4 flights of stairs to my dorm room several times a day and be able to carry heavy books around campus with me. I have a lot of walking from class to class, also, about 6 miles per day. So, my questions are, especially directed to people who have had laparoscopic cholecystectomy: Do you think I should have surgery now or wait until December? How long does it take after keyhole surgery to be able to return to physical activity (climbing up stairs and carrying stuff)? Any other advice is much appreciated, although I do need to have it taken out- other approaches are not really an option.
Nothing seems to help? I had laparoscopic gall bladder surgery two days ago. When I came out I was in a lot of pain, I had 2 injections in my legs morphine and something else.. I had 4 painkillers every 4 hours. I left the next day after surgery around 10 o'clock. But I was in the most pain out of the 2 other women that had their gallbladders removed. They all moved about fine, but everytime I moved to the toilet, i'd cry and yell, be in so much pain. My shoulders were so sore, and they still are now.. Lastnight I was throwing up pretty much after everything I ate, and couldn't sleep.. I can eat well fine today. And the nausea has faded. But I have a big problem getting up from laying down. It hurts my bellybutton a lot! I've had heatpads etcetc, still taking pills and i'm so sick of not being able to do anything.. Any suggestions on what I can do? Oh and whenever i stand up and walk I have problems breathing, cant enough air in.. I'm only in my teen years.. why am i going through so much?
Who is right the wife or me? My wife is upset with me, she is having surgery next Monday. Outpatient surgery to remove her gallbladder. Anyway, she is having some sort of anxiety attack thinking she won't come out of the anesthesia and getting all depressed about the whole thing. Then she gets mad at me because I told her that having a tooth removed probably would hurt more than the operation she is having (its laparoscopic) and that there is nothing to worry about. She wants hugs and kisses instead of reasoning and logic. She has been crying a lot. What should I do? Am I wrong to try to reason with her?
should I be concerned or not? approx. 2 weeks ago, I had a laparoscopic cholecystectomy done. (it removes the gallbladder) and still have the 4 incisions, which are healing. (one in the belly button, and 3 along my rib cage.) My question is that last night, when I was bathing my son, I turned to grab his towel from behind me, and felt a sharp pain on the side that has the incisions. They are not open or anything like that, but I think I may have pulled a stomach muscle. Is this something I should be concerned about due to just having surgery in that area?? Any insight would be greatly appreciated! THANX
