Has anyone had complications during Gallbladder surgery? Was told Dr. cut a blood vessel & I bled alot (?)? I had laparoscopic gallbladder surgery this past Friday, 9/01/06. After the surgery the surgeon talked to my husband and told him my gallbladder was in bad shape and had probably been bad for a while and had just started giving me trouble. He also told him there was a complication. He had a hard time getting the gallbladder out and had to cut it out instead of the normal scraping it out..he said he accidently cut a blood vessel and I bled alot during surgery. I haven't been able to talk to the dr who did this yet but was wondering if anyone has had this experience or knows of someone who has?? Should I be worried? I have had so much pain, if my pain meds wear off at all I'm hurting pretty bad. When I started coming to in recovery I was hurting so bad I though I had woke up during surgery..but had been out of surgery for a cpl of hrs. I was begging for pain meds. the nurse said she couldn't give me anymore she had already given me 3 shots of demoral and a percocet pill. normal?
Gallbladder surgery? i have to have my gallbladder taken out next week. They are going to do it laparoscopically. They said it was same day surgery, unless i have complications....what kind of complications and has anybody had to stay overnight just to make sure?
What are the risks of having gallbladder surgery? My due date is Wensday and I have bad gallstones... My doc said that after i have the baby they'll do surgury... I've never had surgery and am already scared... My dad's friend recently died because of complications of a gallbladder surgery, i hear there are lots of bad things and problems it can cause... But on the other hand, i hate having these gallstones, they are painful and I have to watch what i eat, and even if they ease up after pregnancy they'll just come back *possibly worse* with my future pregnancies... Please help... Also will there be a big scar on my belly when they do the surgery?
Is anyone else having problems after their gallbladder surgery? Hi my name is Kandace and I had my gallbladder removed sept. 2nd 2005 (two weeks after giving birth to my son) I am recently having complications since my surgery. I have been having some pretty severe attacks, but dr.'s send me home like it's nothing. Tuesday I had an extremely painful attack that lasted 45 min. I felt like I was having a severe gallbladder attack, but I don't have a gallbladder. The pain started in my right rib cage, up to my right shoulder/shoulder blade, then to the middle of my chest. Followed by nausea and fatigue. That was my 6th attack since surgery, but definately the worst one so far. I am so sick of doctors treating me like I don't know what I am talking about like the problem has been taken care of. I was wondering if anyone else experienced this problem??? If so have you been helped??? Thanks you all have been great! They did an u/s to see if a gallstone was left behind, but showed nothing. The dr. didn't order any other tests and just told me to log the episodes. She wasn't very concerned although they seem to be happening a lot lately. I'm watching my diet because I'm trying to lose weight so I don't eat a lot of greasy or fried foods. I've replaced fries and other fried foods for baked potatoes with fatfree butter and eat grilled meats like chicken and so on. Thanks for all of the advice. I think I will find another dr.
Surgery complications? im having my gallbladder taken out.Has anyone had complications from this, and how often do they have to do an open surgery? I had a tubal ligation last year, done laparoscopically, and i read that if youve had previous surgeries, they sometimes have to revert to an open procedure?
Gallbladder surgery issues? I am post-op laparoscopic cholecystectomy July 22, 2008. I had minor complications after surgery including dermatitis from the steri-strips and a tear of my common bile duct from a large stone which was extracted. Ever since surgery, whenever I eat, be it something small like an apple, or a large full course meal, about 20 minutes after eating, I break out in a sweat and spike a low-grade fever up to about 99.8 which lasts approximately 30 minutes. This seems quite bizarre to me. I'm wondering if this is due to my new digestion process or perhaps a low grade infection? Thank you for your help.
after gallbladder surgery? I had my gallbladder out lapraroscopically on Jan 31. There were no complications, I came home the same day. The pain was rather severe, I would say an 8/10 when I woke up in recovery, I actually thought the doctor had to convert to open because of the pain. The pain is almost nonexistant at the incision sites, only a little sore, the pain is all in the right upper quadrant. Lortab 10mg has been effective for pain management, although I had to take it every 4-5 hours for like 6 days, or severe pain would return. I am on day 8, and am still taking lortabs for pain, although not nearly as often. I have went from 6 pills a day two days ago to maybe 4. (sometimes a half dose at a time). I'm getting better, its more tolerable. My question is, has anyone else experienced this kind of persistant pain for this long after surgery. I am not nauseated. It does not feel like spasm pain, its just there (organ pain). I really didnt expect the pain to be as severe as it was from the beginning. Phantom organ pain? I had surgery 8 days ago. I dont think that is the issue now. I am a nurse, just curious about other peoples experiences. I will definately have a new perspective on laparoscopic surgical patients after being on this side. I never see patients more than 2 days after surgery. I have had 2 c-sections, and my upper teeth removed due to heritary defects. I have to say this procedure was by far the most painful of the 3.
Does anyone know anything about being pregnant after an open gallbladder surgery? I had an open gallbladder surgery two months after my second son was born. It left me with a 7 inch ugly scaredown the right side of my abdomen. I have had two boys, one is 5 and the other is 2. My husband and I are thinking about trying for a gril but I am not too sure how that will work out with the scar. I am afraid that is might cause a complication because of how large it is or that it might not stretch correctly. Any advice or experience on the subject?
For those of you who have had gallbladder surgery..? after you had your gallbladder removed did you experience uncontrollable diahrrea?? My mom keeps telling me about a friend who had hers taken out and she has had uncontrollable diahrrea for years now, like can't get to a bathroom, poop your pants kind. I am supposed to have mine taken out in a couple weeks, did this happen to you or did you have it only for a couple days or not at all. Please let me know if you had any complications and if you had the diahrrea. Thanks!
gallbladder complications? has anyone ever had or heard of bile still leaking out after gall bladder surgery? and if so.. would this tend to cause a chemical inbalance???
Has anybody had complications after having their gallbladder taken out? My wife had emergency surgery and she developed a leak that caused her diaphram to push up to her right lung. This caused the ling to partially collapse and two drians were put in her to remove fluid for the bile leak and the fluid around the lung. Now she has a hard time breathing and the diaphram is still pushed up to her lung even with no more bile in the area under the diaphram.
I don't know where to ask this, but I have a question about gallbladder removal! Please advise, I'm scared. I am 16 years old, and I recently had a baby girl (please do not lecture on that, as it is obviously not why I am here). However, I had several complications post-delivery and one was some gallbladder issues. Apparently, I have several gallstones in which I never felt (silent gallstones, which my doctor said may be pregnancy induced-I'm quite healthy!). I never have gallbladder attacks, pains, etc. However, my surgeon advises that I have gallbladder removal soon to reduce the risk of problems in the future. I know I don't NEED my gallbladder removed since I have no pains, but I figure it would be a good idea and I should have it done anyway. Has anyone experienced gallbladder removal surgery? If so, what were the after-experiences like? Weight gain? Recovery? ANY info at all would be helpful, and I've read a lot on the internet but I would still like some personal experience information if possible. Please, and thank you in advance!
Who has had their gallbladder removed? I'm 28 years old and have to go in to have my gallbladder removed sometime this week. I would like to know what is recover time how long after can you lift heavy things? Any complications? I've never had surgery and I have small children to take care of.
vagus nerve/gallbladder? Has anyone had their vagus nerve cut in gallbladder surgery which resulted in gastroparesis? Is this a normal complication? Has anyone had their vagus nerve cut in gallbladder surgery which resulted in gastroparesis? Is this a normal complication? Symptoms are bloating after meals, extreme pain waking me up in the middle of the night in the upper stomach, goes into the back and up the middle chest. Had every test you can think of, everything is normal - pancreas, liver, no blockage, upper GI, lower GI, lots of blood work, etc. They have determined and put me on medication for gastroparesis. I will have the rest of my life, no cure. Seems to be helping. Symptoms started one week after surgery. Surgery was in October 2006.
Are gallstone cleanses effective and just as effective as gallbladder removal? Upon getting Jaundice I went to the hospital to discover that I had gallstones blocking my ducts. I had a procedure to remove the stones today, and in just a few hours in the morning I'm scheduled for surgery to have my gallbladder completely removed. All nightI have been researching alternatives. While alot of people did not have complications with gallbladder removal, what if I'm one of the percentage who do have complications, or still experience the same symptoms even after the gallbladder is removed? I've also heard that removing the gallbladder puts strain on your other organs. Is this true? I really don't know what to do, need some opinions. I've researched some gallstone cleanses, I may ask if I can delay the surgery so that I can try those methods first. Has anyone done gallstone cleansing? Is just as effective as having the gallbladder removed? Have you tried any cleanses that worked for you? Thanks. :) I'm 18 years old.
DOCTORS: Does a non-functioning or diseased gallbladder show up on an ultrasound? I had a terrible hospital experience, where I had been in the ER and they ran tests and said they ruled out the problem being my gallbladder and sent me home. Three days later I turned yellow because I was jaundice was admitted for emergency surgery and had my gallbladder removed and then I had more complications and needed two more surgeries. I am trying to figure out how negligent the hospital was. It's not even that I want to sue them, because I don't. I just want to know if I'm safe to go back there in the future. The gallbladder thing was a year ago and I had to go to the ER today and was terrified. I guess I just want some closure. It took the other doctors at the other hospital that I was admitted at no time at all to find the problem. They ran a HIDA scan. When they ran the HIDA scan my gallbladder did not show up at all. They actually ran the test twice and that's why the came to conclusion that it had ceased functioning. My question is just simply does a gallbladder that had ceased functioning show up on an ultrasound. I understand that mistakes happen, but the entire experience was terrible. They had orderlies come take me for tests that the doctor didn't tell me they were doing. They ran multiple pregnancy tests despite my telling them there was a zero chance of that. They did pregnancy tests before anything else and then made me submit for another urinalysis.
I had my gallbladder out 3 months ago but now i am having pain again? I had a few complications wich was the main reason for open surgery (leaving me with a 12" scar) was that i have multipal addheasons internally and there were organs that needed to be seperated for the Drs to remove the gallbladder safely. through the past few weeks i have been getting uper right quadrant pain very simular to that of an attack along with feeling nausiated. I have been to the A and E of the hospital they performed a battery of blood test that all appeared to be normal .. then did a chest x-ray telling me that i need to see the gp to have a follow up scan and maybe a few other test as they are concerned that i may have a bit of 'sludge' , or adheasons developing wich both present with the same symptoms. has any one else had these and how are they treated as i dont want another stay in Hospital as this last surgery with all the complications i was there for 7 days. instead of the overnight stay.
Has anyone else had this happen? When my baby boy was 3 months old I had to have my gallbladder removed. The surgeon said it was very commen for women that just had a baby to have this problem. Has anyone else had this surgery after having a baby and what was your experience. Mine was horrible, my husband went out to work the same day after I had my surgery. Then the next day went out of town for 3 days. I begged him not to go but he said I was being selfish and that my mom and grandma could stay with me and help with the baby. I was in so much pain due to just having an emergency c-section 2 1/2 months prior to my gallbladder surgery. I had alot of complications with the birth of my child and then a surgery on top of that, my husband was not very understanding. I was just looking for some input on other experiences. By the way my husband went out of town to go to the drag races. It had nothing to do with work so he did not have to go. He knew I was having surgery before he planned on going to the races.
Tell me about gallbladderectomies. Maybe I made that word up...I mean surgical removal of the gallbladder? So yeah. My best friend is going in for one tomorrow morning. And I'm hella nervous for him. He told me that his sisters friend had one done last week (by the same doctor who is performing his), and due to complications she DIED for an entire minute before they could revive her. So now I have a series of questions. What happens during the surgery? How do they access and remove the gallbladder? Generally, how long is the surgery? What types of things go can wrong? What are the most frequent complications? How bad is the pain afterwards, and how does it feel a few days after the surgery? And finally: How long does it take to fully recover? Your answers will ease my mind somewhat, so thanks!

Bone Spurs on spine? My husband recently found out that he has bone spurs growing on his spinal cord. they discovered this while ruling out complications from a gallbladder removal. Does anyone have experiance with this? we will meet with a back specialist this week....but is it likely he will get surgery? what are the risks with this?
Chronic Abdominal Pain My Doc Says he can't help. Does anyone know of a good doc in Indianapolis who can help I have had 4 surgeries and every other test imaginable. He was giving me Lortabs for 4 months now and I only take 2 or 3 a day. He cut me off 2 weeks ago and suggested I find a second opinion since he is stumped. They have removed my appendix, gallbladder and went back in to remove the stump from my appendix. I have been to pain clinics and have had the shots. But the painkillers are the only thing that helps. He is afraid I will become addicted. The only option he says he has left is to do open surgery but is afraid because of complications from my last 2 surgeries. my weight is a factor (385) and poor lungs do not help. Any suggestions would be appreciated as I am very frustrated. I am not a drug addict, but I feal I am treated as one when I talk to other doctors.

Post cholecystectomy help? I had my gallbladder removed over than a year ago. Every so often, I get pains in my abdominal region. It isn't in the same area as the pain from my attacks. It is usually lower or around the area where they had to put a drainage tube. I had complications during my cholecystectomy. I had a leak because my gallbladder was so inflamed that thy couldn't get the clamps on well. I also get nauseous alot of the time and have diarrhea occasionaly. Is this common this long after surgery? Has anyone else had this kind of experience? Should I see my doctor about this? Is there anything he can do?

Gallstone Problems? Hello! I recently had a sono done (don't remember the actual name of the test - Injected with a dye and hormone to see gallbladder function) and the results showed it working at a mere 7%. The nurse who called me with the results told me they normally recommend the removal of the gallbladder if it is working at 30% or lower. Well, I am currently waiting for a pre-surgery consultation (that is ten days away) and my symptoms are getting worse. I haven't eaten greasy foods (pizza, cheese burgers and all that jazz) for at least 5 months and the past few days I've eaten nothing but toast! No matter what I put in my mouth I am miserable. Its currently 2 a.m. and I am nauseous, have pain, heartburn, and I am wondering, how do you tell if you are having complications beyond just gallstones/poor function? I know you guys aren't doctors, but I am asking for personal experience. Did you ever have gallbladder problems that turned into something more serious? And how did you tell?

..please help! i had my gallbladder removed 2 months ago, only working at 9%....? no complications with surgery, recovered well, felt great...until 2 weeks ago....felt like i had pulled a muscle? went back to dr who did surgery, did blood tests all came back normal, did an unltrasound everything looked fine. i feel EXACTLY the same as i did b4 i had my gallbladder out. pain right under ribs on right side. cant eat much, have had the runs for 2 weeks ranging from dark to yellow. feels like im constipated but i have the runs. dr prescribed vicodin, then after that hasnt really worked said to take advil/tylenol & alternate between the 2. that doesnt really work. i am so pooped at nite i crash on the couch. sitting makes my right side hurt worse. ANYONE have this?? im supposed to call the dr back on monday but have a feeling he has no clue or will tell me its all in the recovery process..which i find hard to believe since i was feeling great a month after surgery. please if anyone has any ideas i would be so grateful.
Is severe discomfort in the upper abdomen near my ribs with no pain typical of gallstones? I'm in my mid 20's and about 5 yrs ago after a meal in another state out to eat I experienced a very full feeling and then later in the night threw up and seemed to feel better somewhat. Came home happened again and possibly 1 more time over a few months. Went to the Dr. and we did an ultrasound he said I had a bunch of gallstones. Put me on low fat diet I did that for awhile and in the past 5 years I would say it only happened a few more times...until recently. Note that previously when I would feel sick and throw up it was normally within 6 or so hours after I had eaten typically after midnight and I would get some relief from having to throw up. Each time after the first few times I experienced less and less relief from vomiting. Also note there has never been pain, only a fullness at first and then nauseous and then I would need to vomit at some point and the feeling would last a day or two of discomfort in my upper abdomen near my ribs. Not sure if some would call it pain, but its not like ow! ow! If its pain I would say dull and pretty much constant. Now since April of this year 2008 it started again, maybe it was the way I had been eating before that, I did lose 30 lbs in 3 months a year ago and it probably came back on somewhat fast because, well I was in another country where it was hot and iwalked frequently and ate mostly healthy food and well American lifestyle ..atleast where I am doesn't match that so anyway moving on, not sure if this made it worse and it just didn't affect me till later like if it builds up? or more came or what but April is when it started again. Only this time the feeling lasts for a week or two! I've been reading many articles online about gallstones and most say that there is severe *pain* involved and normally lasts for 15 minutes to 4 or 5 hours, 1 article said if longer than could be a complication like Cholecystitis or a gallstone could be in a duct and once it moves the pain would stop. Anyway I know this is *very* longwinded, I apologize, but I wanted to give as much detail as possible. If there is a website with more information that would be helpful as well. Also another note: though I'm not opposed to natural things, on this I'm not interested in doing a flush at this point or in the near future. I've done research on that as well and that's controversial to me. Any other information, and/or suggestions and advice would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance. P.S. I do have a doctors appointment this coming monday to discuss my last ultrasound and tell him of my symptoms, if there's any advice for that please let me know. Oh yeah I was told through the phone after the results in April that I have a fatty liver as well, and if I experienced pain or pain I can't handle then I needed to get surgery to remove my gallbladder. I'd like to avois surgery as much as I can..I don't have insurance right now and just don't want it... Oh and forgot to mention I cut out all high fat foods from my diet, haven't had a hamburger since I got sick in April, anything fried I dont have or only have bite or two of rarely, and greasy stuff, cheese and ice cream etc I've cut out, occasionally i'll have a little cheese but hardly at all. I realize I should be cooking mostly for myself so I know how its prepared and how much fat goes into it, guess that's what I'm working on now... So that's all for now.. Any inquiries for more info which I highly doubt you'll need after this long winded question has been asked, please let me know.
Ectopic Pregnancy Due to surgery a month prior.? I am only 20 years old. I recently had surgery to have my gallbladder taken out in Jan. I just had surgery to remove an ectopic pregnancy last week. How come I was not told for my gallbladder surgery that I would have complications carrying a child properly due to my gallbladder surgery. If I would have known that I would have a chance of having an ectopic pregnancy due to having surgery a month ago I would have made it physically impossible to get pregnant. Now I am only 20 years old and have 1 TUBE!!! All because of that gallbladder surgery. The ER physician that did the ectopic surgery even told me that the reason for this ectopic is because I just had prior surgery. Everything I read is saying your at risk for having an ectopic pregnancy if your over 35, just had abdominal surgery, or you have PID
