How long does it take to recover from back surgery? This is what the report said when the results of my MRI came back: L5-S1--There is grade 1 anterolisthesis of L5 on S1. There is disc desiccation and vacuum disc phenomenon at this level as well and concentric disc bulge. Very prominent hypertropic changes involve the facets and ligamentum flavum bilaterally. The constellation of findings results in moderate-to-severe central canal stenosis and severe narrowing of the lateral recess and neural foramina bilaterally. Degenerative endplate chages are present at this level. I am only 44 and I have never had any back injuries. I am having numbness in my legs from the knees down and I am losing my coordination as well. Then there is the PAIN! In the last 3 weeks I have had to use a walker to move around. Are there other treatments for this besides surgery? If not how long will it take me to recover from surgery?

Will a removal surgery completely get rid of a lipoma on my back after steroids injections? I have a lipoma on my middle/upper back over my spine and it doesn't hurt. It first appeared last summer(2.9cm by 3.8cm) and my doctor injected steroids. The size was reduced a bit over the months and it doesn't seem to grow. The doctor suggested that I leave it and wouldn't do another steroids injections because it left a dimple mark with some discoloration. It's still lumpy and I don't want it. surgery....??? ok. so i've been in PT for the last three weeks and i have 1 week to go before i go back to the Ortho. the therapist doesn't like the lack of prgress with my knee and has mentioned the possibility of surgery. I now have almost full ROM while not weight bearing but still have strong stabbing like pains with ROM while bearing weight(stairs, wall slides,ect..), and when the therapist bends my knee inwardly. I also just started not wearing the brace(immobilizer) which i had been wearing since i injured my knee, and my knee begins to feel unstable if i am on it for any length of time(more then 1 hour). The initail injury was a minor tear of my MCL, and from the research that i've done they usually don't do surgery for MCL injuries. My question basically is what would the next step be....

If they say it is optional or if I have to keep my bra on, do they still make you wear a gown?? The way I look at it is if my sports bra is on, then I got nothin' to hide....so I would rather not wear the gown if my sports bra is on...do you think they will allow that?? Most of the time at home I'm in just my sports bra anyway, so for me it's no big deal (if I have my sports bra on). Thanks in advance!

Surgery.......? After her sixth child, Jane decided that she should have some cosmetic surgery "down below" to restore herself to her former youthful glory because her bomb doors were dangling a bit too low and looked like a ripped out fireplace. Time and childbirth had taken its toll and she reckoned that, with six children now being the limit, she'd tidy things with a nip here and a tuck there so it looked more like a piggy bank slot rather than a badly packed kebab. Following the operation she awoke from her anaesthetic to find three roses at the end of the bed. "Who are these from?" she asked the nurse, "They're very nice but I'm a bit confused as to why I've received them. "Well" said the nurse, "the first is from the surgeon - the operation went so well and you were such a model patient that he wanted to say thanks". "Ahhh, that's really nice" said Jane. "The second is from your husband - he's delighted the operation was such a success that he can't wait to get you home. Apparently it'll be the first time he's touched the sides for years and he's very excited!" "Brilliant!" said Jane. "And the third?" "That's from Eric, a patient in the burns unit," said the nurse. "He just wanted to say thanks for his new ears."

Back Surgery yes or no? My wife has a bulging disk in her back and has been in constant pain for a year. She recently had three rounds of cordizone ( i think thats the name) in the spine to releave pain but, we know this is just covering up the problem. Her pain has come back after only 2 months after the shots now the options that we were given are surgery either traditional or the new laser. My question have you had either of these done, what were the results and what would you do if you had to do it again? I have been told the success with laser is higher than the traditional surgery. is this true? any insight would be great.

Surgery!?!? Since me and my fiancee has been trying to conceive for a year and 3 months can i ask the doctor to have a laproscopy done to see why i'm not getting pregnant? How should i go bout this?
Doctor back up on surgery!!!? I have some kind of form of blood clot in/ at my wrist. I cant move it at all because any movement it hurts. It has been like that for over two months now. So they finally came to the conclusion that they have to surgery. I was in a way glad because at atleast that would be a step in it getting better. Than they told me i have to wait over month for surgery because they are back up. Is there anything i can do? Could i do see another doctor? Would they have to start from the beginning or could i just bring or fax my med. records to the new doctor?
I have spinal stenosis disk bulge etc. I am trying to avoid back surgery or am looking for info on the surgery I am a nurse and am exploring pro and cons of back surgery vs. complimentary/alternative therapy. Can anyone enlighten me? I have been using magnetics, far-infared, massage, nutrition, wt loss, physical therapy SI belt, traction and exploring a purchase of a new sleep system @ hhtp://www.mynikken.net/winters I am also strongly thinking of going on another route with my nursing career as I am BSN educated but am also 50 and need to re-think whether to leave floor nursing .... I am told if I continue the same work and have surgery, I will just need to have additional surgeries. Any info would be greatly appreciated. FYI I am worker's comp and have been working through this whole thing for over a year. Any info or Facts and Figures would be greatly appreciated.
is there anything called laser back surgery? I have a love one who suffers the older they get from a back surgery, there are many wonderful new medical wonders that people are not aware of, so i thought i would ask the question......
To young for much needed back surgery? I was told by 2 surgeons that i need back surgery...2 herniated disc and degenerative disc ..went to a 3rd surgeon and he says i definetly need it but..here is something i never heard of before..he said i am to young right now to fix it and i will definetly need it in the future...I am 36 yrs old...can't work....can barely walk..can't lift over 20 pounds. Since i seen the first 2 surgeons i have lost my insurance...my work fired me because i went on disability....now they don't take my new insurance. Thankfully my family doctor is understanding and gives me the pain medicine that i desperately need..But i need to get something done so i can get on with a normal life... Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated...
What kind of mattress is best for someone who has had back surgery? I have had surgery to repair 3 separate herniated lumbar disks and since my last surgery, I am finding my 2-year-old king bed to be brutal on my back. It's not a very hard mattress and yet I've read on the web that firm mattresses are actually bad for people with back problems. My husband and I are about to go looking for a new mattress (he says he's finding this one not firm enough), but I was wondering if there are other people out there, possibly who have had lumbar disk surgery (or who have problems with their lumbar spine), who could give me some insight. I feel funny going into a store and laying on their mattresses for 30 minutes at a time....
What insurance covers X Stop Procedure(invasive back surgery)? the procedure is walk in walk out back surgery procedure, but having a hard time finding insurance that will cover it. It is approved by the FDA. It is still to new(4-5yrs now)for anyone to cover it. If you have any info on it or coverge that would be great. This if for mom, she has blue cross blue sheild in san antonio but they will now cover it.
Back surgery or not? I threw my back out, had sharp pains shoot through my legs. My doc says I might have to have back surgery. The MRI tech says to try and stay away from back surgey. My main family doc has just had her third surgery and may need to go again. I haven't heard of any success stories with back surgery. I have been told that there is no avoiding surgey if the pains or numbness in you legs do not go away, so they would have to do emergency surgery.
back surgery on elderly grandpa? My grandpa is 80 years old and has been having leg and back pain for a while. This Thursday he is having surgery on his back, he can't remember what they said was wrong or he doesn't want my family to know for some reason. He had several shots in his back, but none of them worked. Without any other choice, his doctors have decided on surgery. I'm really worried about his survival chances and how well he may heal afterward. Has anyone else's grandfather had back surgery so late in life? How well did he heal? I know this is an odd one, but how long did he live after the surgery? I'm scared and don't want to lose my grandpa, he's been the only "dad" I've ever had. Thanks for any info.

I have to have surgery on a ruptured disk in my lower back but I am only 30. Any advice on types available? I was involved in a car accident last November (Dumb @## ran a red light) and found out that I have 1 bulging disk, and 3 herniated disks. Well, the neurosurgeon recently told me that one of the disks are ruptured, which from what i take can be used interchangeably with the word herniation? Anyhow, the ruptured disc is now pinching my ciatic nerve and causing severe pain in my leg and groins. They put me on neurontin, percoset, zanaflex, and voltaren (not to mention the many stool softeners i take because of side effects from the percoset). I have also lost the reflex in my right leg, cannot lift it up much, and knee is weakening. So, they have recommended back surgery, but i am nervous because i am only 30 yrs old and have heard horror stories about back surgeries. Has anyone had a similiar experience or had a similiar surgery? What type of surgery do you recommend. My neurosurgeon does not recommend laser surgery, any advice on this?
I have Endometrosis, have had surgery.Im startin to hurt really bad again. How soon does the growth come back? I was diagnosed with Endometrosis about 3 years ago.I had surgery to remove some of the stuff growing inside.Im not like fully educated about the disease but k now that it grows back so often and causes you to start gettin really bad pain again around period times.Well I have had Lupron Shots,Depo Provera,Birth Control and surgery.I was startin to be fine for a year but now Im starting up with really bad pain again. My periods are heavy and abnormal.Clotting again and in horrible pain again before my periods are supposed to start. My cramping is so intense it's allmost unbearable,Im having horrible back pain as if I was in labor.I feel incredibly sick during this whole time.I dont eat that much cuz im in such bad pain.I was wondering how often you need to have the surgery to have it coterized so you have relief from the endometrosis until it starts growing back again. It's been about 2years now since the last surgery but im hurting really bad again and wondering if surgery is needed again

Back Surgery? I am having a 360 lumbar fusion of the L4-L5 and L5-S1 surgery coming up on April 29th and I'd like to know if anyone has had this particular surgery and what the recovery period is and did it help with your back problems. I am currently taking 15 mg morphine tablets twice a day and 5 mg oxycodone 8 a day and i worry about addiction and organ damage, but as of right now i have no choice but to take it as my back hurts so bad,so that's why I'm opting for surgery
Back Surgery? eeek!! I have to have back surgery. I have a bulging disc that is pinching my sciatic nerve. The surgery is called decompressive laminectomy? Anyone out there had a surgery like this? Let me know how yours went. No scary stories though, please!!!
back surgery!!! ruptured disc-- how tough of a surgery is this? I am a 36 year old male in decent shape- not muscular pretty much skinny but I can hold my own, my body is toned. Spent quite a few hours behind a sledge hammer last year and received my first back injury, couldnt even walk (pinched nerve was the diagnosis)-- left me laid up for 2 wks. Now almost a year later to the day this problem comes up again. Last monday had an MRI done and got the results from my doc yesterday and he said that I need to have surgery done. He made it a point to mention that he understands how much pain that Iam feeling. I'am a carpenter and sort of afriad of this surgery -- what is the outcome???
back surgery- has anyone had lower back surgery? is your back surgery heal your back problem? how long it takes after surgery to be pain-free?
Back Surgery???????? I need a little advice.... I had back sugery in Oct to remove a bulging disk that was putting pressure on my sciatic{sp} nerve. well to make a long story short , soon after I started haveing the same pain as before, {sever pain in right buttock and down leg and we will not even discuss the back pain} so i went back to my doctor and he did another MRI and said that the scar tissue had grown around the nerve and that was what was causeing all the pain, put me on meds and said the only other option was surgery. So now I have been on these meds for about 6 months now and the pain is just getting worse. So I have made a appointment with him to discuss the surgery to remove the scar tissue. What I would like to know is if there is anyone else who has been thru this and if so what do i have to look forward too? How dangerous is this surgery and what if they snip my nerve will that cause perm damage? My sister had a car accident a few years ago and just stretched her nerve and now she is crippled and in a wheel chair. Should I take the chance or just keep taking the pain meds and hope it gets better. I don't see how it can get better until it is removed but I am haveing to take pain meds about 4 times a day to even be able to set up or get up to cook dinner or dishes or anything. I am SCARED and don't know what to do
surgery???????????????????????????????? my face is different from the other side , is there a such a surgery where they can change the shape bone so it looks like the other side
Back Surgery and Leg Pain/Numbness? I had to have back surgery five weeks ago (L4/L5) due to a herniated disk which was causing both of my legs to feel like they were asleep. I couldn't walk without the support from the walls or another person. When I awoke from surgery, still had the numbness/tingling in both my legs. Well I'm getting more feeling back in my legs but now I am noticing some leg pain in my left leg which was not there before the surgery. Also, I am having trouble in my left leg with flexing the muscle in my calf and not being able to raise up on my toes (again, in the left foot). What I am wondering is if anyone else has had a similar experience and also if the use of those muscles has come back. I am going to see my surgeon next week and of course will be telling him all this, but I am just looking for something to tide me over until next week. Thanks!
"Back surgery"!:o? To everyone, I am going to have "2 back surgeries this summer"!:( The "1st surgery will be done to my neck"-"recoop 6 weeks"! The "2nd surgery will be lower back"-"recoop 6 months"! Because I have "mutiple sclerosis, sleep apnea, arthritis of the spine, deteriorating disks, and scoliosis" I will have to stay in the hospital longer than the "usual 6 hour out patient time"! "has anyone else out here on the web gone through a similar situation"?:O beankittyky(=^v^=)
Major foot surgery, havent gotten appetite back.? the past week I have had a really bad sweet tooth. I had major ankle surgery 2 weeks ago, it was a four hour surgery and then I had to have a cathiter put in because I wasnt peeing. So I am on crutches for the next 11 weeks and I havnt really gotten my apitite back, but this sweet tooth is killing me. I was just wondering if anyone has had this problem after a major surgery, and if anyone has any good ideas for a healthy sweet tooth snack? I know its kinda a goofy question but if anyone has any good ideas I would love it!!!
After back surgery's my back hurts much more if i sleep in my bed then on my coach with my head elevated? I have had 5 back surgery's covering the lumbar area from S1,L5,L4, L3, AND L2. All being fused in short terms, excecpt a titanium spring/cage at L4/L5 which was my first surgery. I have a sleep comfort adjustable air bed which allows you to change stiffness from very soft to hard. Even on the softest setting my back hurts a lot more then if i sleep on my couch with my head more elevaded which is more like an arch or recliner position. The QUESTION is "why does my back hurt much more when i wake up if i sleep in my bed then if i sleep on my coach???? No one i have talked to including my doctor which was highly recommented knows. I just find it hard to believe i'm the only person that has this problem. One other thing that came along with this was just minutes before i went into surgery i didn't have any problems with the top of my feet. The minute i cam to i noticed my feet, more the right then the left had a numness with an irrited feeling which i still have to this day. Please help

Back Surgery Advice?? I am 30 and due to have back surgery in about a month. I had a discagram last week and it was the most painful thing I think I've ever been thru. I went in and saw the results of the discagram and I was completely frightened. No wonder why I can't walk in an upright position. My bones in my spine are practically scraping one another. It's not just one disc, it's two!! I am terrified, and it seems like my doctor is trying to talk me out of surgery by saying 'there are some people that live w/ the pain their whole lives without correcting it'. The truth of the matter is that, I 'CAN'T' live with the pain. It's horrible!! I can't even just get up and walk. I have to get up slowly, and carefully straighten my back, and THEN take off. Please help me with some advice from either professionals, or those who have experienced this pain and procedure. I'm terrified outta my mind, and wanna know that the sugery will help, and that I will be ok.

Back Surgery? Best Options? My boyfriend is now missing the lower three disc in his back. He's managing to pain alright, with meds and losing about 135lbs. But it's getting to the point he doesn't want to be on the meds forever and is worring about the long-term effect the meds will do. So now he's looking into surgery and wants to know his options and all the questions relating to them. He's already gone to a few doctors, but he still doesn't like the odd of recovery. He's a very active person and still wants to be able to do what he's already doing. Hunting, fishing, 4 wheeling and so on. Out of the few people he knows that have had similar back surgery, only one has full recovered. Any thing that might point me in a better direction and answers will be very much appreciated. Thanks He's been to three neurosurgeons. and he's not liking that there's a 60/40 chance of not recovering good enough to be able to do what he already does. He is actually missing the disc. Bone on bone. He's noticed that with the loss of weight it's help a lot. He's got feeling back in his legs, but he noticed he's somewhat afraid to do stuff that might make the pain worse for a few days later. He knows surgery is his best option but what one? He's looking more for disc replacement.... anyone know someone that has had this done. He's only 25 y.o. and he wants to be able to live his life.
Back Surgery? Could some people tell me some POSITIVE and I do mean POSITIVE stories about back surgeries that they've had......I'm being offered back surgery...... maybe spine fusion and am very nervous. Thanks for any positive stories.

Back surgery - the best thing you ever did, or the worst? Tell me about the recovery process and healing from back surgery. Are you all better now? Was it worth it?
Back surgery or no?? I've had proplems with my lower back for about 5 years now. I'm a professional diesel technician, and my job is killing me. I'm already on disability from my job. I've been going to a great chiropractor and physical therapist, but I'm afraid that I'm starting to become a liability to my company. My orthopedic is suggesting surgery on L-5 and S-1. Your opinions are appreciated I'm 23. One of the disc is ruptured and is crushing the nerve on the right side of my back. I have severe weakness in my right leg and the ortho told me yesterday that there may be something wrong with my neck because I have no strenth in my right leg. My chiro thinks that the sugery might help. All they want to do is "shave" the disc where it it pushing against the nerve. I still go to my chiro. he's really good and it does help, but this is almost three years in a row that something simular has happend with my back. Each time it gets worse & it takes longer to heal each time.
I had a surgery for endometriosis in october, at first the pain was gone, but its back so whats the next step? basically, the pain was really bad for about about 6 months, even with taking oral contraceptives (which are supposed to be a big help in this condition, note:i took Low Ogestrel), i then had the surgery (it was called a microscopic laprascopy) and after that the pain went away,(i am still on the same type of oral contraceptives so as not to have my period, and it is ideally supposed to prevent the endometriosis from returning) but the pain is coming back, so does anyone know what will happen now, since i already had the surgery,as well as have been treated with medicine and neither methods have worked?
Back surgery while pregnant? I just found out that I have a herniated disk (my fourth one) and my husband and I are trying to get pregnant. I was wanting to know if you can have back surgery while you are pregnant?
I need back surgery asap but...? my medical insurance won't cover it, because it's from a pre-existing injury. My doc says I need to figure something out VERY fast, because my condition is worsening rapidly. I have 2 herniations impinging nerve roots and am experienceing EXTREME right leg weakness. It's to the point I can't bear weight on it. I have seen surgeons who agree I need surgery asap, but with no insurance covering it, I am S.O.L. Are there any tricks to having them perform surgery on an "emergency" basis? To me, not being able to walk, is pretty darn urgent, but the one ER I went to didn't see that way. If anyone knows any tricks to get this done, or programs that can step in VERY quickly to help I would love to hear about them! I know about SS and such, but that takes months, which I don't have. My doc also said my right leg had started muscle atrophy (I think that was the word), basically my muscle was deteriorating due to my back. Thanks for any info or tricks!
back surgery? I just got back my CT scan and the Dr. wants me to go to a neurologist. My L4 and L5 is messed up pretty bad. It has pinched my nerve. Has anybody had surgery on this and if so, what is it like, does it help, and what is the recovery time. I am going to a chiropractor tomorrow to see if he might can help me.

Cervical Dysplasia again! I had the surgery, its back now what? I kn ow a lot about HPV and i know it can effect my cells at anytime but the laser surgery has a 95% cure rate I guess i was n that 5 % that the dysplasia came back not even a year later? Back surgery question? I am due to have back surgery due to spinal stenosis. Is there anyone out there who has had this procedure? I live alone and am worried about managing when I come home from the hospital. Also, would anyone care to share their experience with me? Thanks. I just wanted to thank both of you for your help. I don't have anyone to help me, but I do have friends and relatives (who are all busy with their own lives) but I probably can get help if truly needed. Thanks for the good wishes, too. They're certainly appreciated. (I trust the doctor who sent me to this new surgeon implicitly.)
Back surgery? I just had back surgery, will you feel sorry for me?
wound care after back surgery? my mother had back surgery a month ago for spinal stenosis. After they went in they realized it was a pinched nerve and corrcted the problem (so they say), So far she has had the same pain in her back and lower extremities, she can barely walk. To add to the inconvienance, her wound is not healing up ....has anyone ever had back surgery with these problems? I feel sorry for her, but i think she's given up, she wishes for a miracle but with every surgery, she seems to get worse.

I am supposed to have an artificial disc replacement surgery, but my insurance won't cover it!!? My insurance won't cover the back surgery because it is new to the U.S. My doctor recommended an alternative surgery called a fusion, but it has some downfalls to it, like limited mobility of that part of my spine. Does anyone know anything about either of these types of surgery. If so, what is your opinion on what I should do. My doc says that the fusion surgery is good but in time I could end up having to have another surgery because when they put titanium rods in my spine, it limits the mobility in my spine, thus breaking down more discs in my back. What should I do? I am in so much pain & just want to take care of it somehow. Please help.
If I had mentioned when I had "Q" about obsession & computers that I was home recovering from back surgery... Would the answers be different ? My other "Q" was how long do you spend per day on computer . How many hrs. do you think is obsessive ? My husband says I am obsessed and I am new to the net and I only have dialup while I am learning .

I also am thinking about something in the medical field. Does anyone have any suggestions of some type of job that allows for one to alternate between sitting and standing?? I don't want to have to go back to school for a long time, but am willing to go through any type of training. Any suggestions??? HELP ME PLEASE, as I am dying to get back to work !!! I am 28 and I had gall bladder surgery done in early July and now I have gained weight.Wat is this so? Firstly, right after my laproscopy (gall bladder surgery) I switched to a light diet such as soupy noodles, brown rice and bland porridge and in smaller portions too. It was more for health than aesthetic reasons that I do so and I have no problems with my new diet. I am also not a fan of the Atkins Diet; I believe in eating well nutritioned meals rich in veges, fruits and less of fats. However, despite the almost fat-less diet,I have gained more weight than before my surgery.A few chinese friends told me it is water retention and my doc says its from gas that causes the bloatedness, hence the appearance of looking fat. Both says it will take a few months for the water/gas to go away.As such,I was advised by all not to exercise b'cos my body is still recovering from the internal wounds. Before my surgery I was never an exercise person but I figured I wanna work out after the surgery to get back into the pink of health. So if it isn't the new diet or exercise, what is causing my weight gain?
I am trying to find old pics/records of a man that was on the U.S.S. New Mexico in 1925.? I have been hired by my neighbor to get the information about her husband's father. His name was Murray Charles Turnbull. He was stationed at San Fransico, CA. He was on the U.S.S. New Mexico for 5 days, then was in the military hospital in San Diego. After that he was transported via the U.S.S. Nevada back to the New Mexico. On 6-2-1926 he went AOL for about 4 days and was sent to solitary confinement for 8 days. He began his enlistment on 11-13-1925 and recieved a discharge by special order on 8-20-1926 because his mother had major surgery and his step-dad had a car accidient and both were unable to work. If any one knows how to find more information about this man I would appreciate it. I really am looking for pictures, either group shots or individual of him if possible. Thanks for all help , in advance.
Who has scoliosis? Have you had the surgery? Please Help!? I'm considering surgery for my very crooked back. I'm of course scared. I have a questions that my doctor hasn't seemed to answer for me...What do you look like after the surgery? Are you as stiff as a board? Can you move, possibly bend at all? Can you have sex? Lift your newborn out of the bassinet? Can you carry children with these metal rods fused to the spine? DOES ANYONE KNOW OF NEW PROCEDURES BEING DONE? If so where do I go? Anyone?
anybody heard of the spinecor scolisosis brace?? read on.? well im a 14 yr old girl with scoliosis and a 51º degree curve. It isnt noticable at all unless u look at m back closely. My curve is at the top area of my back not on the lower part of my back. I wear a Boston Brace so far and i really wanna avoid surgery ill do whatever it takes!!! i heard of this new back brace called SPINECOR. Does it really help? You think it will help in my situation?? it seems so much easier than a regular brace too!! help plz!
Has anyone heard of lower lumbar L5 Gild Surgery? 2 Discectomies have not worked; looking at a 3rd surgery.? A relative told my husband and I to check out a surgery called "lower lumber L5 Gild" surgery. My husband has already had two surgeries to repair a disc and and is now scheduled for a third one on the same (L5-S1) disc in a few weeks. We don't want to go through this again and again. If anyone knows any resources or information where we can learn more about this new procedure to end my husband's leg and back pain, please let us know. Thank you. Tammie
Would anyone recommend laser eye surgery for astigmatisms and short sightedness? I've been back to the optician a few times with my new spectacles, and still can't see the small print on jars etc. They are fine when using them with my computer screen, but a bit blurry when reading. The optician said she gave me this type of lens so that my eyes wouldn't become too lazy - the top being for the computer and the bottom for reading. The problem is I get impatient if I can't read the small print, and now have started to reach for the pair I bought in the chemist as a size 2 works perfectly. My right eye is a little short sighted, and both eyes have astigmatisms. Should I have surgery?
Medical malpractice lawsuit? What do you think? I just had back surgery and found out that a previous surgeon had done something really bad wrong in a surgery 3 years ago. I'm suing for 2 doctors malpractice. Do you think I should tell my new surgeon that I'm suing my previous surgeons? This isn't "sue happy". The previous surgeon put an electronic nerve stimulator in for me and because he put it in wrong it broke and had to be replaced. Also parts of it cannot be removed from my body because it was done wrong. LSS, I have an abandoned cable in my chest cavity that was supposed to be under the skin. It cannot be removed.
Possible surgery and need help??? I was just informed that I might have to have a surgery to remove my gall bladder. The test results come back today and we find out. My question is this.... does anyone on here know what the surgery involves? Will I be in alot of pain afterwards? I have asked the doctor these things, but of course being a doctor they just say the same thing.... you'll be fine and have very little pain. I would like some honest answers from someone who has gone through this sort of thing. If I do have to have it out will I have to change my diet to a certain way of eating? This is all new to me. I would appreciate any advice you can give.
Need some advice? Okay here it is. My sister is 18, her boyfriend is 20. They have been together for 4 years.? They moved into an apt. together in November 2006.December of 2006 he got into a motorcycle accident, broke his back, punchured lung, broken ribs, etc. He is okay. He had back surgery. He is able to walk around, actually he is encouraged to do light exercise. Well his brother moved into the 2nd bedroom of their apt. to help out, so he is paying 500 for rent per month. Her boyfriend is on disability(obviously), the police reports say the accident is his fault, he owes $12,000 for his hospital bills. My sister is working. A LOT. She works overtime every single day,and on Saturday as well. He has her give him her check, & gives her a small portion. Seriously small. And puts the rest in his account for bills, rent, etc. She has to ask him if she wants to buy shoes,a new top, etc. Then he says we are broke, cant afford it, so on. But just last week he bought a remote controlled helecoptor,it was 80 bucks. He spends a bunch of $, but gets mad when she wants to spend $. What the heck? Is this okay? I mean I dont want to but in, but I dont want her to get taken advantage of either. No, I dont want to cause problems for her either. Here is something else that goes on: She will want to watch tv, they only have 1 hooked up in the living room, and him and his brother will bitc_ and comment about something she is watching until she says fine, gives them the remote and goes in the room. They totally hog the tv. Also, last week when I was over she was watching a chick flick, and his brother kept saying can you turn on something entertaining. So she got sick of that and kind of tossed the remote and went to her room and slammed the door. And his brother yelled DONT SLAM THE EFFIN DOOR! And her bf said hey quit yelling, I dont want someone to complain that we are loud and then his brother said she is a spoiled brat. And he didnt say anything to stick up for her. And if her and I get into a small argument, he will tell me to knock it off, and totally butt in. But I dont butt in when she comes over complaining about him. Sorry I am totally venting.. =/
desperately need help... does anyone own the belkin wireless router with print server? i have a belkin F5D7231-4p router it has the usb printer port on it. i cannot find the disc and my printer took a dump so i purchased a new one and need to reinstall the print server drivers. i have downloaded them again from belkin but theirs does NOT have the printer server part of the drivers in it. my friend has the same router w/out the print server and that is different too. does anyone have these that they can send me please. i am laid up after back surgery and would like to get some work done. thanks so much for any help.
Child Services? My friend is 17 years old. Her dad does drugs, smokes weed almost every day. He has an entire stash of it in his office. And not only that, but he is abusive. Emotionally and physically. He doesn't use fists or anything, but he slaps her around a lot. He yells all the time, and made her new name "dumb ***" He is cruel hearted... she got her ear pierced, and he dog tagged her ears. He pushed her mom around after she got out of back surgery. She is so afraid to report him because these days child services hardly do anything, and she's afraid that he will hurt her if he finds out that he's been reported. This girl is my best friend... and I don't know what to do. My dad was emotionally abusive. He hit me and I called the cops. After that, we still remained in contact but he never touched me again. Her dad will... I don't know what to do. Considering the fact that he does drugs, if they find it on the spot, what could he get? What should I do?! We live in the state of Ohio.
what can cause a buring sensation all over a person's body? i just feel awful .I had back surgery 5months ago the doctors tell me i have nerve damage and that is why i still have pain. The doctor is treating me with a new medication called LYRICA.Latly I have been having a buring sensation all over my body What could be causing this?
hello! I have just moved to NorthWest NJ. and i need to find a doctor who will prescribe medications i need.? I recently move to New Jersey and have had a rough stretch of bad physical health and now also emotional problems so i was seeing a primary doctor/pain management for my Fibromyalgia and pancreatitis (which was caused by gallstones and just recently had my gallbladder removed and i also will need back surgery w/in the next year for two herniatied discs in my lower pack. SO i was seeing..a general practioner, intertenal doctor , pain management doctor and pyshiatrist. I am having a hard time finding all docs even though i have brought all my medical records for the past 3 years which now looks like a huge novel and brought the catscan and ultra sound test results from the hospitals and my old doctors. I dont expect to find everything i need but there are two types of medications i need.(Not including the pain meds) but i do need my sleep medicine AMBIEN and My Xanax both i have been taking for over 18 mos. Do you belong to the "new Church of Global Warming"? "Aliens Cause Global Warming" A lecture by Michael Crichton California Institute of Technology Pasadena, CA January 17, 2003 My topic today sounds humorous but unfortunately I am serious. I am going to argue that extraterrestrials lie behind global warming. Or to speak more precisely, I will argue that a belief in extraterrestrials has paved the way, in a progression of steps, to a belief in global warming. Charting this progression of belief will be my task today. Let me say at once that I have no desire to discourage anyone from believing in either extraterrestrials or global warming. That would be quite impossible to do. Rather, I want to discuss the history of several widely-publicized beliefs and to point to what I consider an emerging crisis in the whole enterprise of science-namely the increasingly uneasy relationship between hard science and public policy. I have a special interest in this because of my own upbringing. I was born in the midst of World War II, and passed my formative years at the height of the Cold War. In school drills, I dutifully crawled under my desk in preparation for a nuclear attack. It was a time of widespread fear and uncertainty, but even as a child I believed that science represented the best and greatest hope for mankind. Even to a child, the contrast was clear between the world of politics-a world of hate and danger, of irrational beliefs and fears, of mass manipulation and disgraceful blots on human history. In contrast, science held different values-international in scope, forging friendships and working relationships across national boundaries and political systems, encouraging a dispassionate habit of thought, and ultimately leading to fresh knowledge and technology that would benefit all mankind. The world might not be avery good place, but science would make it better. And it did. In my lifetime, science has largely fulfilled its promise. Science has been the great intellectual adventure of our age, and a great hope for our troubled and restless world. But I did not expect science merely to extend lifespan, feed the hungry, cure disease, and shrink the world with jets and cell phones. I also expected science to banish the evils of human thought---prejudice and superstition, irrational beliefs and false fears. I expected science to be, in Carl Sagan's memorable phrase, "a candle in a demon haunted world." And here, I am not so pleased with the impact of science. Rather than serving as a cleansing force, science has in some instances been seduced by the more ancient lures of politics and publicity. Some of the demons that haunt our world in recent years are invented by scientists. The world has not benefited from permitting these demons to escape free. But let's look at how it came to pass. Cast your minds back to 1960. John F. Kennedy is president, commercial jet airplanes are just appearing, the biggest university mainframes have 12K of memory. And in Green Bank, West Virginia at the new National Radio Astronomy Observatory, a young astrophysicist named Frank Drake runs a two week project called Ozma, to search for extraterrestrial signals. A signal is received, to great excitement. It turns out to be false, but the excitement remains. In 1960, Drake organizes the first SETI conference, and came up with the now-famous Drake equation: N=N*fp ne fl fi fc fL Where N is the number of stars in the Milky Way galaxy; fp is the fraction with planets; ne is the number of planets per star capable of supporting life; fl is the fraction of planets where life evolves; fi is the fraction where intelligent life evolves; and fc is the fraction that communicates; and fL is the fraction of the planet's life during which the communicating civilizations live. This serious-looking equation gave SETI an serious footing as a legitimate intellectual inquiry. The problem, of course, is that none of the terms can be known, and most cannot even be estimated. The only way to work the equation is to fill in with guesses. And guesses-just so we're clear-are merely expressions of prejudice. Nor can there be "informed guesses." If you need to state how many planets with life choose to communicate, there is simply no way to make an informed guess. It's simply prejudice. As a result, the Drake equation can have any value from "billions and billions" to zero. An expression that can mean anything means nothing. Speaking precisely, the Drake equation is literally meaningless, and has nothing to do with science. I take the hard view that science involves the creation of testable hypotheses. The Drake equation cannot be tested and therefore SETI is not science. SETI is unquestionably a religion. Faith is defined as the firm belief in something for which there is no proof. The belief that the Koran is the word of God is a matter of faith. The belief that God created the universe in seven days is a matter of faith. The belief that there are other life forms in the universe is a matter of faith. There is not a single shred of evidence for any other life forms, and in forty years of searching, none has been discovered. There is absolutely no evidentiary reason to maintain this belief. SETI is a religion. One way to chart the cooling of enthusiasm is to review popular works on the subject. In 1964, at the height of SETI enthusiasm, Walter Sullivan of the NY Times wrote an exciting book about life in the universe entitled WE ARE NOT ALONE. By 1995, when Paul Davis wrote a book on the same subject, he titled it ARE WE ALONE? ( Since 1981, there have in fact been four books titled ARE WE ALONE.) More recently we have seen the rise of the so-called "Rare Earth" theory which suggests that we may, in fact, be all alone. Again, there is no evidence either way. Back in the sixties, SETI had its critics, although not among astrophysicists and astronomers. The biologists and paleontologists were harshest. George Gaylord Simpson of Harvard sneered that SETI was a "study without a subject," and it remains so to the present day. But scientists in general have been indulgent toward SETI, viewing it either with bemused tolerance, or with indifference. After all, what's the big deal? It's kind of fun. If people want to look, let them. Only a curmudgeon would speak harshly of SETI. It wasn't worth the bother. And of course it is true that untestable theories may have heuristic value. Of course extraterrestrials are a good way to teach science to kids. But that does not relieve us of the obligation to see the Drake equation clearly for what it is-pure speculation in quasi-scientific trappings. The fact that the Drake equation was not greeted with screams of outrage-similar to the screams of outrage that greet each Creationist new claim, for example-meant that now there was a crack in the door, a loosening of the definition of what constituted legitimate scientific procedure. And soon enough, pernicious garbage began to squeeze through the cracks. Now let's jump ahead a decade to the 1970s, and Nuclear Winter. In 1975, the National Academy of Sciences reported on "Long-Term Worldwide Effects of Multiple Nuclear Weapons Detonations" but the report estimated the effect of dust from nuclear blasts to be relatively minor. In 1979, the Office of Technology Assessment issued a report on "The Effects of Nuclear War" and stated that nuclear war could perhaps produce irreversible adverse consequences on the environment. However, because the scientific processes involved were poorly understood, the report stated it was not possible to estimate the probable magnitude of such damage. Three years later, in 1982, the Swedish Academy of Sciences commissioned a report entitled "The Atmosphere after a Nuclear War: Twilight at Noon," which attempted to quantify the effect of smoke from burning forests and cities. The authors speculated that there would be so much smoke that a large cloud over the northern hemisphere would reduce incoming sunlight below the level required for photosynthesis, and that this would last for weeks or even longer. The following year, five scientists including Richard Turco and Carl Sagan published a paper in Science called "Nuclear Winter: Global Consequences of Multiple Nuclear Explosions." This was the so-called TTAPS report, which attempted to quantify more rigorously the atmospheric effects, with the added credibility to be gained from an actual computer model of climate. At the heart of the TTAPS undertaking was another equation, never specifically expressed, but one that could be paraphrased as follows: Ds = Wn Ws Wh Tf Tb Pt Pr Peâ?¦ etc (The amount of tropospheric dust=# warheads x size warheads x warhead detonation height x flammability of targets x Target burn duration x Particles entering the Troposphere x Particle reflectivity x Particle enduranceâ?¦and so on.) The similarity to the Drake equation is striking. As with the Drake equation, none of the variables can be determined. None at all. The TTAPS study addressed this problem in part by mapping out different wartime scenarios and assigning numbers to some of the variables, but even so, the remaining variables were-and are-simply unknowable. Nobody knows how much smoke will be generated when cities burn, creating particles of what kind, and for how long. No one knows the effect of local weather conditions on the amount of particles that will be injected into the troposphere. No one knows how long the particles will remain in the troposphere. And so on. And remember, this is only four years after the OTA study concluded that the underlying scientific processes were so poorly known that no estimates could be reliably made. Nevertheless, the TTAPS study not only made those estimates, but concluded they were catastrophic. According to Sagan and his coworkers, even a limited 5,000 megaton nuclear exchange would cause a global temperature drop of more than 35 degrees Centigrade, and this change would last for three months. The greatest volcanic eruptions that we know of changed world temperatures somewhere between .5 and 2 degrees Centigrade. Ice ages changed global temperatures by 10 degrees. Here we have an estimated change three times greater than any ice age. One might expect it to be the subject of some dispute. But Sagan and his coworkers were prepared, for nuclear winter was from the outset the subject of a well-orchestrated media campaign. The first announcement of nuclear winter appeared in an article by Sagan in the Sunday supplement, Parade. The very next day, a highly-publicized, high-profile conference on the long-term consequences of nuclear war was held in Washington, chaired by Carl Sagan and Paul Ehrlich, the most famous and media-savvy scientists of their generation. Sagan appeared on the Johnny Carson show 40 times. Ehrlich was on 25 times. Following the conference, there were press conferences, meetings with congressmen, and so on. The formal papers in Science came months later. This is not the way science is done, it is the way products are sold. The real nature of the conference is indicated by these artists' renderings of the the effect of nuclear winter. I cannot help but quote the caption for figure 5: "Shown here is a tranquil scene in the north woods. A beaver has just completed its dam, two black bears forage for food, a swallow-tailed butterfly flutters in the foreground, a loon swims quietly by, and a kingfisher searches for a tasty fish." Hard science if ever there was. At the conference in Washington, during the question period, Ehrlich was reminded that after Hiroshima and Nagasaki, scientists were quoted as saying nothing would grow there for 75 years, but in fact melons were growing the next year. So, he was asked, how accurate were these findings now? Ehrlich answered by saying "I think they are extremely robust. Scientists may have made statements like that, although I cannot imagine what their basis would have been, even with the state of science at that time, but scientists are always making absurd statements, individually, in various places. What we are doing here, however, is presenting a consensus of a very large group of scientistsâ?¦" I want to pause here and talk about this notion of consensus, and the rise of what has been called consensus science. I regard consensus science as an extremely pernicious development that ought to be stopped cold in its tracks. Historically, the claim of consensus has been the first refuge of scoundrels; it is a way to avoid debate by claiming that the matter is already settled. Whenever you hear the consensus of scientists agrees on something or other, reach for your wallet, because you're being had. Let's be clear: the work of science has nothing whatever to do with consensus. Consensus is the business of politics. Science, on the contrary, requires only one investigator who happens to be right, which means that he or she has results that are verifiable by reference to the real world. In science consensus is irrelevant. What is relevant is reproducible results. The greatest scientists in history are great precisely because they broke with the consensus. There is no such thing as consensus science. If it's consensus, it isn't science. If it's science, it isn't consensus. Period. In addition, let me remind you that the track record of the consensus is nothing to be proud of. Let's review a few cases. In past centuries, the greatest killer of women was fever following childbirth . One woman in six died of this fever. In 1795, Alexander Gordon of Aberdeen suggested that the fevers were infectious processes, and he was able to cure them. The consensus said no. In 1843, Oliver Wendell Holmes claimed puerperal fever was contagious, and presented compellng evidence. The consensus said no. In 1849, Semmelweiss demonstrated that sanitary techniques virtually eliminated puerperal fever in hospitals under his management. The consensus said he was a Jew, ignored him, and dismissed him from his post. There was in fact no agreement on puerperal fever until the start of the twentieth century. Thus the consensus took one hundred and twenty five years to arrive at the right conclusion despite the efforts of the prominent "skeptics" around the world, skeptics who were demeaned and ignored. And despite the constant ongoing deaths of women. There is no shortage of other examples. In the 1920s in America, tens of thousands of people, mostly poor, were dying of a disease called pellagra. The consensus of scientists said it was infectious, and what was necessary was to find the "pellagra germ." The US government asked a brilliant young investigator, Dr. Joseph Goldberger, to find the cause. Goldberger concluded that diet was the crucial factor. The consensus remained wedded to the germ theory. Goldberger demonstrated that he could induce the disease through diet. He demonstrated that the disease was not infectious by injecting the blood of a pellagra patient into himself, and his assistant. They and other volunteers swabbed their noses with swabs from pellagra patients, and swallowed capsules containing scabs from pellagra rashes in what were called "Goldberger's filth parties." Nobody contracted pellagra. The consensus continued to disagree with him. There was, in addition, a social factor-southern States disliked the idea of poor diet as the cause, because it meant that social reform was required. They continued to deny it until the 1920s. Result-despite a twentieth century epidemic, the consensus took years to see the light. Probably every schoolchild notices that South America and Africa seem to fit together rather snugly, and Alfred Wegener proposed, in 1912, that the continents had in fact drifted apart. The consensus sneered at continental drift for fifty years. The theory was most vigorously denied by the great names of geology-until 1961, when it began to seem as if the sea floors were spreading. The result: it took the consensus fifty years to acknowledge what any schoolchild sees. And shall we go on? The examples can be multiplied endlessly. Jenner and smallpox, Pasteur and germ theory. Saccharine, margarine, repressed memory, fiber and colon cancer, hormone replacement therap6yâ?¦the list of consensus errors goes on and on. Finally, I would remind you to notice where the claim of consensus is invoked. Consensus is invoked only in situations where the science is not solid enough. Nobody says the consensus of scientists agrees that E=mc2. Nobody says the consensus is that the sun is 93 million miles away. It would never occur to anyone to speak that way. But back to our main subject. What I have been suggesting to you is that nuclear winter was a meaningless formula, tricked out with bad science, for policy ends. It was political from the beginning, promoted in a well-orchestrated media campaign that had to be planned weeks or months in advance. Further evidence of the political nature of the whole project can be found in the response to criticism. Although Richard Feynman was characteristically blunt, saying, "I really don't think these guys know what they're talking about," other prominent scientists were noticeably reticent. Freeman Dyson was quoted as saying "It's an absolutely atrocious piece of science butâ?¦who wants to be accused of being in favor of nuclear war?" And Victor Weisskopf said, "The science is terrible but---perhaps the psychology is good." The nuclear winter team followed up the publication of such comments with letters to the editors denying that these statements were ever made, though the scientists since then have subsequently confirmed their views. At the time, there was a concerted desire on the part of lots of people to avoid nuclear war. If nuclear winter looked awful, why investigate too closely? Who wanted to disagree? Only people like Edward Teller, the "father of the H bomb." Teller said, "While it is generally recognized that details are still uncertain and deserve much more study, Dr. Sagan nevertheless has taken the position that the whole scenario is so robust that there can be little doubt about its main conclusions." Yet for most people, the fact that nuclear winter was a scenario riddled with uncertainties did not seem to be relevant. I say it is hugely relevant. Once you abandon strict adherence to what science tells us, once you start arranging the truth in a press conference, then anything is possible. In one context, maybe you will get some mobilization against nuclear war. But in another context, you get Lysenkoism. In another, you get Nazi euthanasia. The danger is always there, if you subvert science to political ends. That is why it is so important for the future of science that the line between what science can say with certainty, and what it cannot, be drawn clearly-and defended. What happened to Nuclear Winter? As the media glare faded, its robust scenario appeared less persuasive; John Maddox, editor of Nature, repeatedly criticized its claims; within a year, Stephen Schneider, one of the leading figures in the climate model, began to speak of "nuclear autumn." It just didn't have the same ring. A final media embarrassment came in 1991, when Carl Sagan predicted on Nightline that Kuwaiti oil fires would produce a nuclear winter effect, causing a "year without a summer," and endangering crops around the world. Sagan stressed this outcome was so likely that "it should affect the war plans." None of it happened. What, then, can we say were the lessons of Nuclear Winter? I believe the lesson was that with a catchy name, a strong policy position and an aggressive media campaign, nobody will dare to criticize the science, and in short order, a terminally weak thesis will be established as fact. After that, any criticism becomes beside the point. The war is already over without a shot being fired. That was the lesson, and we had a textbook application soon afterward, with second hand smoke. In 1993, the EPA announced that second-hand smoke was "responsible for approximately 3,000 lung cancer deaths each year in nonsmoking adults," and that it " impairs the respiratory health of hundreds of thousands of people." In a 1994 pamphlet the EPA said that the eleven studies it based its decision on were not by themselves conclusive, and that they collectively assigned second-hand smoke a risk factor of 1.19. (For reference, a risk factor below 3.0 is too small for action by the EPA. or for publication in the New England Journal of Medicine, for example.) Furthermore, since there was no statistical association at the 95% confidence limits, the EPA lowered the limit to 90%. They then classified second hand smoke as a Group A Carcinogen. This was openly fraudulent science, but it formed the basis for bans on smoking in restaurants, offices, and airports. California banned public smoking in 1995. Soon, no claim was too extreme. By 1998, the Christian Science Monitor was saying that "Second-hand smoke is the nation's third-leading preventable cause of death." The American Cancer Society announced that 53,000 people died each year of second-hand smoke. The evidence for this claim is nonexistent. In 1998, a Federal judge held that the EPA had acted improperly, had "committed to a conclusion before research had begun", and had "disregarded information and made findings on selective information." The reaction of Carol Browner, head of the EPA was: "We stand by our scienceâ?¦.there's wide agreement. The American people certainly recognize that exposure to second hand smoke bringsâ?¦a whole host of health problems." Again, note how the claim of consensus trumps science. In this case, it isn't even a consensus of scientists that Browner evokes! It's the consensus of the American people. Meanwhile, ever-larger studies failed to confirm any association. A large, seven-country WHO study in 1998 found no association. Nor have well-controlled subsequent studies, to my knowledge. Yet we now read, for example, that second hand smoke is a cause of breast cancer. At this point you can say pretty much anything you want about second-hand smoke. As with nuclear winter, bad science is used to promote what most people would consider good policy. I certainly think it is. I don't want people smoking around me. So who will speak out against banning second-hand smoke? Nobody, and if you do, you'll be branded a shill of RJ Reynolds. A big tobacco flunky. But the truth is that we now have a social policy supported by the grossest of superstitions. And we've given the EPA a bad lesson in how to behave in the future. We've told them that cheating is the way to succeed. As the twentieth century drew to a close, the connection between hard scientific fact and public policy became increasingly elastic. In part this was possible because of the complacency of the scientific profession; in part because of the lack of good science education among the public; in part, because of the rise of specialized advocacy groups which have been enormously effective in getting publicity and shaping policy; and in great part because of the decline of the media as an independent assessor of fact. The deterioration of the American media is dire loss for our country. When distinguished institutions like the New York Times can no longer differentiate between factual content and editorial opinion, but rather mix both freely on their front page, then who will hold anyone to a higher standard? And so, in this elastic anything-goes world where science-or non-science-is the hand maiden of questionable public policy, we arrive at last at global warming. It is not my purpose here to rehash the details of this most magnificent of the demons haunting the world. I would just remind you of the now-familiar pattern by which these things are established. Evidentiary uncertainties are glossed over in the unseemly rush for an overarching policy, and for grants to support the policy by delivering findings that are desired by the patron. Next, the isolation of those scientists who won't get with the program, and the characterization of those scientists as outsiders and "skeptics" in quotation marks-suspect individuals with suspect motives, industry flunkies, reactionaries, or simply anti-environmental nutcases. In short order, debate ends, even though prominent scientists are uncomfortable about how things are being done. When did "skeptic" become a dirty word in science? When did a skeptic require quotation marks around it? To an outsider, the most significant innovation in the global warming controversy is the overt reliance that is being placed on models. Back in the days of nuclear winter, computer models were invoked to add weight to a conclusion: "These results are derived with the help of a computer model." But now large-scale computer models are seen as generating data in themselves. No longer are models judged by how well they reproduce data from the real world-increasingly, models provide the data. As if they were themselves a reality. And indeed they are, when we are projecting forward. There can be no observational data about the year 2100. There are only model runs. This fascination with computer models is something I understand very well. Richard Feynmann called it a disease. I fear he is right. Because only if you spend a lot of time looking at a computer screen can you arrive at the complex point where the global warming debate now stands. Nobody believes a weather prediction twelve hours ahead. Now we're asked to believe a prediction that goes out 100 years into the future? And make financial investments based on that prediction? Has everybody lost their minds? Stepping back, I have to say the arrogance of the modelmakers is breathtaking. There have been, in every century, scientists who say they know it all. Since climate may be a chaotic system-no one is sure-these predictions are inherently doubtful, to be polite. But more to the point, even if the models get the science spot-on, they can never get the sociology. To predict anything about the world a hundred years from now is simply absurd. Look: If I was selling stock in a company that I told you would be profitable in 2100, would you buy it? Or would you think the idea was so crazy that it must be a scam? Let's think back to people in 1900 in, say, New York. If they worried about people in 2000, what would they worry about? Probably: Where would people get enough horses? And what would they do about all the horseshit? Horse pollution was bad in 1900, think how much worse it would be a century later, with so many more people riding horses? But
