Also I'm wondering is it possible that she had a differnet type of surgery? What type of gastric bypass surgeries have the fastest recovery time?

Anyone that has had this surgery, can you advise on this?

What is the Lap Band (Weight-loss surgery) Post-op recovery time? I have been cleared for surgery and am only waiting for the Doctor's scheduler to call me. This is expected to occur in a week or so. Recently I have come to find out that the post-op recovery time is between 2-4 weeks! I am an accountant and have a pretty sedentary job (obviously) Do I really need to be off that long? I am not getting bypass so I thought that the time comittment would be far far less. I was expecting to be out perhaps 2 days after surgery. Can anyone please forward to me their experience?
Recovery time for arthroscopic shoulder surgery? I am wondering about both immediate recovery time and the long term recovery. Basically my boyfriend is planning on having the surgery a few days before we are supposed to go to a wedding. So I am wondering if two days after the surgery if he'll be feeling well enough to enjoy himself at the wedding or if I should plan on going by myself? In addition a month later we are supposed to go on a vacation, and I was wondering if there are any activities he may not be able to do only a month after his surgery? Anyone with personal experience with this would be a great help. Also any other tips for the recovery both long a short term would be helpful.

my 6 month old kitten has to have surgery whats the recovery time? the other day i posted a question about my cat 'missy-lee' who hurt her back leg and it was dragging behind her. i took her to the vets today as she was still in severe pain and not moving. unfortunatley she had a break in her femur that was too severe to fix, so the vets reccomended amputation of that leg. as euthinasia was not an option for her.or for me to let them put her to sleep. i gave the green light for them to amputate her leg on monday, shes on pain releivers until then and shes on 24 hour watch at the vets. how long does a kitten take to recover from this surgery? and do i need to make special preperations for her arrival home on tuesday? and whats the best after care i can give her post surgery? as i only want the best of care and comfort for her when she comes home.

How long was recovery time after your spinal fusion surgery? I had spinal fusion surgery 12 days ago, L4, L5. I was up and walking within one day, and out of the hospital in less than two. What is the realistic recovery time for gall bladder surgery? I am having gall bladder surgery at the end of this month, it is not the open surgery, but the 4 small cuts in the abodomen. I would like to know how long it takes to get back to work. I don't have a hard job, but may require standing for 2hrs at a time. How long should I be prepared to be out of work for, if anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it.
What is the recovery time for surgery to put plate and screws for lower leg fracture? My sister has a 'radial fracture' in one of her lower leg bones. Basically there were hairline fractures from a jump and they spiderwebbed across the bone. The doctor isn't sure it will heal properly and strongly with just a cast. He put her in a cast and will x-ray it again in a week to see how the healing progresses. If it isn't sufficient then he says he will do surgery to put in a plate and screws. If he just leaves the cast, she will only have it 6 weeks. If she has to have the surgery, how much longer than that could she be off work? She's an LPN doing home health care. Would she have to have physical therapy that could prolong her return to work even longer? The fracture is about 3 inches above her ankle and I'm not sure which lower bone it is in. She is obese, abt 325lbs.
Recovery time for Diabetics going under surgery? This is going to be my second surgery for the year with in 9-10 months apart. Adult-Onset Hydrocephalus, shunt surgery, recovery time? The Dr's think my 58 yr old mother has this. She 'had' a non cancerous brain tumor 9 years ago, and now her brain ventricles are swollen, so they suspect water on the brain. The Dr said she may need a shunt put in. What is the surgery like in an adult? Recovery time? She lives alone so I'd have to fly in to help and I'd like a ball park idea of how long I'd be there. Thanks.
How long of a recovery time should I expect on a discectomy surgery? I am 21 years old and I have a bulge in my L4 disc, I have had severe sciatica issues for the past 6 months I have been to a chiropractor, and a physical therapist... I have to sit down most of the day because I am a college student so neither of these methods have been effective. I am meeting with a surgeon and I am hopeful that he will be performing a discectomy. Has anyone had this surgery before? Would this be something I could have done and be back to school within a few days? Also if I was to have the surgery would it be possible to continue with the chiropractic care (for preventative damage)?
What is the recovery time after Hallux Rigidus/Bone Spur Surgery? I'm a 33 yr old female who had the hallux rigidus surgery on 07/11/08 on my right foot. The surgeon said it would be about 3-4 day recovery and I would be back on my feet, even playing tennis!!!! It is going into WEEK 5 and still in a lot of discomfort and pain. I am able to get my foot into a tennis shoe barely. My experiences are swelling and pain whenever I have my foot down for more than a few minutes. It is painful to put weight on my foot, mostly on the ball of my foot, my other toes and the inside of my foot. Doing simple things like the dishes, taking a shower and driving is just terrible. If I'm not doing any of the simple household things, I have my foot elevated. The worst is in the evening because it seems to swell more often. Sometimes, it also feels like my circulation has been cut off. This was my first week back to work and was pretty challenging getting around. I'm hobbling around without crutches. I'm not sure if it is getting better or worse. I'm doing the exercises of bending my toe back hoping this will help. Please let me know if anyone has had similar experiences. How much more time it is going to take to be able to walk without limping and feeling pain???? Is there anything I can do to speed up the recovery time? Please help!!!
Surgery Recovery Time? My dog will eventually need surgery that will have a 6 week recovery period. I am unsure of when she will need it - could be this year, might not be. It depends on how quickly her knee condition degrades. I am just trying to plan ahead and keep vacation time open for this. How long should I stay home with her after her surgery? I only have a little over 2 weeks (combo personal and sick time) and was unsure if I should keep it all open, or just a week or so? She is a year old
Labrum repair surgery, recovery time? What to expect.? I've dislocated my shoulder 20+ times in the past year, having surgery July 3. I've done all my research and talked to the surgeon, just wondering what people's experience has been with the recovery process. How long in the sling? What kind of movement is allowed in the sling? How long is rehab? Is it hard to shower, change in the morning with the sling? Are you bed ridden or can you live a somewhat normal life. I will be very bored during the recovery, what did you do to pass the time? I know these seem like dumb questions but any help would be appreciated. I have always been active and want the surgery, i just don't look forward to it.

What is the purpose of each? Does one reduce swelling and bruising and the other heal? I'm thinking the ice packs must be for reducing swelling and bruising-because when I stopped, the swelling came back. I'm just not sure why I'm supposed to use the warm pack? Any help on this is appreciated. Thanks!

Anal Wart Surgery Recovery Time? Has anyone had this procedure, or known anyone who has had this procedure? I'm just wondering how long it will take for total recovery. It's obviously a very sensitive area and is contantly moist anyways which is going to prolong the recovery period. I had this done about 2 1/2 weeks ago and while the pain is completely gone (except for sometimes during bowel movements) the wound has definately not gone away. I had alot of small warts over an area about the half the size of your pinky finger so the doctor basically just burned that entire area off. My question is how much longer is the wound going to take to heal? Thanks

Anal Surgery Recovery Time? I had some perianal warts removed about 2 1/2 weeks ago. The pain is almost completely gone, but unfortunately the wound still remains. I had alot of small warts in an area about half the size of your pinky finger so the doctor basically just burned that entire area off. It seems like its going to take a long time to heal since the anus is a mucus membrane and all. Kind of hard to let the air get at it. Anyone had this procedure, or a similar procedure - say removal of hemroids, or anal fistulas - or known someone who has had this done? How long was it before their wound was completely healed? Recovery time for wrist surgery radius fracture? broke radius next to thumb jan 23, surgery feb 6. they put volar plate in. had 3 casts and a brace. last saw doc on 4/17. wrist is frozen and bent, can move thumb and first finger, but that is all. my wrist especially where the incision is and my thumb feel like the skin is being ripped off all the time and my elbow and shoulder hurt, but that is from the lack of movement. they never gave me any nutrition info, told me to squeeze a ball that i could not do because of the height of the cast. got pain meds and finally a referral to do PT - which is going to hurt like heck - any info on how i can get thru that without wanting to kill myself? i was never told how long any of my recovery would take or what i could expect! i really need help ASAP! the only time i was "allowed" to talk to the dr was at a appointment(usually2-3 wks apart). only talked to his assistants after bugging the office for a couple of days for every concern i had! right now i am waiting for a answer about the fact that it has healed? crooked - 2 days still waiting! i feel a law suit coming on! i have a appt for a 2nd opinion in 2 weeks - but it's already too late i think! i dont understand the lack of concern from this surgeon or his assistants - if he has even heard any of my problems, they wouldnt even fill out my disabiliy forms! - is it the fact i am a hmo patient?

Recovery time for carpal tunnel surgery? Experiences? I am considered having surgery for carpal tunnel surgery. I have had it in both hands since the 1970s, but the nerve conduction test didn't show any abnormalities until 1997. I have it in both hands. If anyone has had this surgery, I would like to know how long was the recovery time? How bad was it? Were you totally unable to use your hands during the recovery? That's what I was afraid of. Being unable to use my hands for three weeks sounds horrible. I have it in both hands. Maybe I can get it done in on only the right hand (which bothers me more than the left).

What's a good "recovery time" gift for my 6 year old niece having surgery? My 7 year old niece with physical disabilities (not mental) is going through very serious surgery next month to correct some conditions she's had since birth. during her recovery, she won't be able to speak or use her jaw much. I'd love to get her something special to occupy her time during the recovery time! She's a big reader (already reading "Chapter books" and loves disney, princesses (especially ariel), crafty things and anything girlie! She does have a game boy, but parents limit her time on that, so i don't necessarily want to encourage that. Any help for a well-indending-but-out-of-touch-with-kid-stuff auntie? Thanks!! Thanks to all for great suggestions and wonderful well-wishes!!
surgery recovery? Back in October I seperated my shoulder playing soccer (a GK at my university). I loosened the ligaments in my shoulder, tore my labrum (cartiledge), and tore my rotator cuff slightly. I'm scheduled for surgery soon and I'd like to know how long I should expect it to take before I'm back at 100% and doing pull-ups again. The doc said he'll be tightening the ligaments and repairing the cartiledge but will most likely do very little, if anything, to my rotator cuff. I know I'll be doing rehab for a while and that each person is different when it comes to recovery, but how long did it take any of you to recover from a similar surgery? Thanks for all o the answers. The doc will only be able to do the arthoscopic surgery if my ligaments are completly detached--and we don't think so--so i'tll probably be an open surgery. And I'll be traveling a bit so I'll have 3 physical therapists in a little over 2 months.
I need to have foot surgery, but with muliple procedures. What's recovery time and what am I dealing with? I have to have surgery on my right foot. Derotating my little toe, cutting out a ganglion cyst on top of foot, a small bunion off the little toe side (what the podiatrist called a bunionette), a planter's wart and a corn removed from the baby toe, a rhuematoid nodule cut out from the middle toe and a corn cut out from the 4th toe.. The wart and corn is from pressure from the little toe curving under 4th toe. Am I kidding myself to gave a goal to be back to normal by the 6th week after? How bad will the pain be? Or should I go with just a few procedures? I was prepared to have surgery on the derotation of the baby toe, but the rest is too overwhelming. I am scared to death and have 2 kids......I don't feel that I have time to be laid up for 2 months and not be able to walk. Any help, information, past experiences, opinions would be helpful. I do have rheumatoid arthritis and have been treating it for 5 years now.
Recovery time after PRK laser eye surgery? Hi! A week ago I had PRK eye surgery done. I was -7.6 D in both eyes. Is it time to panic and regret the the choice or do I need to wait a lot longer?
Anyone know the recovery time for Sliding Hiatal Hernia Surgery? Although I know surgeries are usually safe but depends on the patient's reaction as to how well they take the surgery. The surgeon has informed us that our mom will need to move her stomach back in place and fix the hernia as well as do a open lung biopsy to get a sample out of there to see what is infiltrating her lungs. Other info: Non smoker, normal weight 67 year old woman, no diabetes, just high blood pressure.

Thanks for all of your helpful input.
Question about gallbladder surgery recovery? I just had my gallbladder surgery on Thursday, I still am sore.I think my surgery was a little more delicate because I was having like a pain attack before surgery, but I do not know if that makes a difference. What I am wondering is what you think, the doctor recommends at least five days out of work for full recovery, and as of Sunday it will only be three. The doctor thought that I would be able to return to work on Monday after being on recovery for three days, but I am not feeling fully recovered yet.I am trying to decided whether or not to return on Monday because my stomach has been really swollen and also I still have pain and soreness. The doctor did tell me that if I did not think that I would be able to return on Monday just to let her know and she would keep me out for more days, which I really do not need a doctor's note because where I work they are not really strict about that, and I really only answer the telephone and do emails but do have to stand up and attend customers if they come in.What do you suggest?
recovery time with rhinoplasty? how long is the usual recovery time if you want to get your nose straighten out a little bit due to a crooked nose after injury? Not really extensive nose surgery. What is the recovery time for a fused back? I visited my neurosurgeon today and he said my last option is fusion, L4-L5,and L5-S1. I am 27 and cant afford to be out of work for too long. The only thing left is Cortisone shots that I have been getting, then surgery. What is the earliest I could return to a labor intensive job, but not push it?

I need info on recovery from shoulder surgery.? I am going to be my friend's caregiver after her shoulder surgery. I want to know if any one knows any thing that I can expect? What is the length of time for recovery? How can I keep her from doing too much too soon? How soon can she get out of bed? She's having surgery the Tues. before Thanksgiving and she wants to have a Thanksgiving dinner like we alwas do. I think it's too much too soon, not just for her but for her daughter and myself. We want her to heal as fast as she can with out any set backs. She also has a 3-legged lab (1 leg in front) that doesn't know his own strength. He is 7 mos. old and still a puppy. I am so afraid that he will hurt her accidently. Any sugestions? Thank you!
Am I expected to postpone my surgery because of jury duty? I have to have a surgery with a recovery time less than one week in the hospital. I got a jury duty notification with the court date the same time I will be in the hospital. It's not an elective surgery, but it's not so critical that I won't be able to move it back a couple of weeks if I have to. I would like to get it over with, though. I have never been summoned for jury duty before. Any help would be great.
My Pekingese is scheduled for Luxating Patella Surgery.? My Pekingese is scheduled to have Luxating Patella Surgery on both back legs at Michigan State University Vet Hospital. insurance help with breast reduction surgery? I am a 35 year old woman and I have been considering getting a breast reduction surgery. I am pretty sure my insurance will cover it. I am a size 38K... I have been attending the chiropractor for months now because of back pain. My question is.... how do I go about getting the insurance to cover it. Do I need to get my Primary Care Physician to recommend it? Or do I just go to the plastic surgeon and hope that the insurance does not balk at it? I just dont want to end up with a nasty surprise of a bill of several thousand dollars after it is all over. Secondly... what can I expect with this surgery. I understand for such a drastic change ( I want to go to a C cup) that it will involve remoiving the entire nipple and removing the breast portion and then resewing it back on. But what else can I expect ...i.e. recovery time... potential problems.... etc.
Corrective Jaw Surgery? I was told about a year and a half ago that I needed my lower jaw moved forward to correct the bite. I have had braces for the last year and today I have been back to the hospital to see the surgeon. I was then told that I need to have my upper jaw moved higher. I was a bit taken back by this and now have loads of questions to ask! Does anybody know about this type of surgery or have a personal experience of this. I just really want to know what the procedure is and the recovery time. Also does anyone know how long I would be off of work or sports, (I am a vet nurse and a horse rider) Thanks to everyone who answers. All answers very much appreciated.
Is religion and politics all just a lot of crap for people to argue over till they drop dead if they want .? I think so and am going on a vacation to get away from all this . Let you all argue back and forth week after week month after month and year after year . I have not been out on the yacht in some time now and the surgery and recovery are a complete success .I look 15 years younger feel great and am ready to get back to having some fun again . Took 8 months for the dental surgery and permanent implants I hate dentures ,the hair transplants have grown in well and the facial surgery has removed 15 hard years of marriage that my divorce could not . Free at last its been a long year spent getting my life back in order and I have enjoyed this so much that from time to time I might just pop back in . I have arranged for two escorts to accompany me out on valentines day just to upset some younger women out with their Boyfriends or husbands . These two girls are hot and turn heads . Maybe this will free men from a life of misery . Sure to cause some conflict as these women hang all over me.
spinal for a cesrean? how long does it take from the time the spinal is given until you have feeling back? and how long until u r goin to recovery from the time of surgery
Surgery to remove clacifications in knee? I had surgery on 10/9/06 to remove calcifications from my patella tendon (doctor said something like that) I had them from running a lot on my injured knee. So I was wondering if anyone else had this and when I would be back in top shape... I'm a freshman and although I haven't run in a while my best 400 time from last year was a 59.65 I was the best in middle school but hs is way different I need to be running sub 56 or so by the end of this year so my questions are is this realistic and how long is recovery and are my times good
Jaw Surgery vs. Mouthguard? I am a 25 yr. old female with an open bite. I had braces once and it didn't correct my problem. I went to the dentist recently and was told I have significant wear on my back teeth. I was told the only way to "fix" this problem was to have surgery. I went for a second opinion and was told that yes surgery would be the only way to fix it, but I could just wear a night guard while I sleep to keep from experiencing further damage. Since I have no pain in my jaw or clicking/locking I don't know what to do. It is a good time in my life to do the surgery since I have no kids etc....but it is still a surgery and that scares me. Not to mention the recovery is horrid so I hear. Please let me know if you have had something similar.....thank you.
Care/Prep for dog with broken leg? Having surgery done tomorrow? My dog broke his leg somehow today. Took to vet and he's two breaks actually a closed straight fracture and a hairline in same area. He goes for surgery tomorrow to be pinned and wired back together. He is expected to make a 100% recovery (barring any problems) and he's only a year old and good health, thank goodness! Of course I will talk to the vet tomorrow and find out all after care instructions but I was wondering if someone could give any helpful advice, tips or tricks on what to expect and how to prepare the house for him. Also, how to prepare my children (5,9). He's a 50 pounder, English Pointer and the nicest dog! Even in his pain and all he kept wagging his tail the whole time! He does have a cage already (crate trained) but I'm not sure how he's going to work it with the cast. I'm experianced in animal care but wondered how others have delt with this kind of thing to make is easier for dog and family. Thanks in advance for any help or advice you can provide!
Information on exercise post Open Heart Surgery - what is possible? My father had a very difficult time deciding to go ahead with his triple heart by pass as my mother (his wife of 44 years) had been admitted into a hospice after battling melanoma cancer for 8 years. On the morning my father was taken away for surgergy my mother passed away. My father awoke from surgery to be informed Mum had passed. He has always been a very fit man his whole life and is continuing to exercise however the complexity of his situation has meant that he is often lacking energy probably suffering a little depression not that he would ever say that. He also suffered a virus and infection in the lung which delayed his recovery further. He is desperate to find a book that gives you a guide on how far you can push exercise after open heart surgery as he is keen to get back into it but does not feel his body is up for it which I believe is more psychological than physical. Does anyone have any books they could recommend on this subject???
For you gals who have had hysterectomies....? How was your recovery time and how long did you spend in the hospital ? Are you back to normal with no decrease in sex drive ? Any tips you feel compelled to shared since you went through it ? I was hoping for the less abrasive surgery but was told since I have never had a normal birth (c-sec. only) that I will be needing the full incision. I am not looking forward to 4 to 6 weeks of recovery and have informed the doc that I will stay over night ONLY then I am out of there. Hospitals are such a pain... they wake you up to ask if you were resting, that makes no sense to me so my stay will be short ! Anything you can share with me will be appreciated ! Thanks ! : ) WOW thanks gals !! I appreciate all the advice and your stories from experience. I am dreading the recovery but soooooo glad to hear you all are happy to have done it and it is behind you. The sex drive thing was scaring me and MY husband. Having a high drive now would change our lives and not sure if we want to slow down yet. ( we are in our 40's) Since many said it may make it stronger, I will warn my husband that he might be dying with a smile on his face in a couple of months !! ha ha !! Thanks ALL !! : )
Breast Implants: Advice needed from the women that have them.? After having 2 children, nursing them, getting her body back into pre-pregnancy shape, my wife has gone from a B cup to an A cup. She is very self concious and wants implants. It's not a priority to me, I think she is a knock out. I've always been a leg and bum man too. I love her and if it makes her happy so be it. I need suggestions/advice on the following: She is 5'5'' a size 4 Cup size she should go to (currently down to an A)? How much recovery time should she expect to need? (we have 2 in diapers still) How long after surgery should I expect to be hands off? Is submuscular the best way to go? Silicone is out of the question! What else should she consider in the decision process?
Surgery for Crohn's? I've had Crohn's disease for 10 years now, and have never had surgery. That might be changing in the next year or so, however, since my insides have developed a large amount of strictures and scarring over the years. I've been on Remicade for a long time, which has kept things bearable, but not that long ago, the strictures began acting up and causing considerable pain. I started on Prednisone, and it has the symptoms back under control. I have no illusions about the lasting effects of it, though, and fully expect to get cut open at some point. So, I'm wondering if anyone here has had surgery to remove random strictures in their intestines and what it was like, how the recovery period was, the couple months following, and any other pertinent info there is to be had.
Are there common long-term psychological side-effects to open-heart surgery ? Recently my father-in-law (66) had heart surgery to replace valves and put in bypasses (he has Type 2 diabetes and a kidney transplant around 8 years ago). A few days after the operation, in addition to the medication prescribed, he was told to begin exercising to aid recovery. For a couple of weeks he took virtually no exercise at all and spent most of the time asleep. He complained of aching pain and fatigue and would not be motivated to do anything. Routine tests during visits to the doctor could find nothing wrong. After two weeks of this inactivity he began to talk nonsense and suffer hallucinations so we took him back to hospital. Since then (3 weeks ago) it has been a cycle of around 5 days in intensive care, sometimes fed on a drip, after which he seems coherent enough to be moved to a less intensive ward. In a few days, the delerium returns and he goes back to intensive care. The doctors cannot pinpoint the problem but are now saying he may never recover. What to do
Had Gall Bladder Removed but experiencing pain after surgery..? I've had my gall bladders removed about a year ago and after recovery I've notice I've been getting these pain on the right side of my back if I sleep for a long period of time. Is this normal? It feels as if the voided area where the gall bladder used to be somehow causes organs to shift and causes an empty pain there. But once I get up from bed there's no more pain. The pain just won't allow me to sleep in, don't know if this is a good or bad thing....
Why is my dad having such a slow recovery from a spinal fusion.? My dad is 62 years old and is having a hard time recovering from a spinal fusion. He quit smoking cold turkey the day he went in for surgery, which could have something to do with it. Today is day 13 and he is just now able to walk a few steps and will most likely be in the hospital a few more weeks. He is complaining of an unbearable pain in the lower right lumbar area of his back. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? An MRI shows that all the hardware and fusion looks perfect. What could be the problem?
question for any consulars officers or very knowledgeable? i am overseas wating for my wife I130 to be processed ,however i need to return back home to the US for some very delicate surgery spinal cord my recovery is about one year can somehow my wife come with me to care for me during and after my surgery what kind of visa could she request, since her I 130 looks as it will take longer then anticipated if approved whatt the time span she can stay with me in the states would appreciate any answer or comment ,,,,,,,,Semper FI
I had an ACL reconstruction and meniscal repair done on 12/21. Now, I feel new pain ...? ... on the interior of the damaged knee, suggesting that my medial meniscal repair has failed. I haven't come back too soon, staying with my P.T. schedule and taking it easy. I had been right on schedule before this set-back, with range of motion and strengthening (I was feeling great). Now, I'm worried that the stitches have torn in my medial meniscus repair and I will need another athroscopic knee surgery. It felt a little off, worse than the previous two weeks or so, after P.T. yesterday (first time doing lunges, and I'm 6'5, 230 lbs, could that have played a role?). I'm planning on giving it until the end of the weekend before I schedule an ortho. appt. and probably another MRI. I'm only 18, and the recovery shouldn't be as bad as the first time around, but it would still be a costly set-back. Does anyone have any further insight?
A 90% Cancer Cure Diet using Flaxseed Oil & Cottage Cheese? Must Read plz!!! Dr Johanna Budwig diet Cancer, Arthritis, Multiple sclerosis, Psoriasis, Eczema, Acne, ... Flaxseed oil and cottage cheese Six time nobel award nominated doctor says this essential nutrient combination actually prevents and cures cancer! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- HOME - The Cancer Homepage -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Read Flaxseed oil Testimonials : http://www.geocities.com/HotSprings/1158/MAILBAG.HTM http://www.geocities.com/HotSprings/1158/ -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Six time nobel award nominated doctor says this essential nutrient combination actually prevents and helps body to cure cancer! by Robert Willner, M.D.,Ph.D. (author of "The Cancer Solution"). -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dr.Johanna Budwig Mix: Put in your blender: 1 cup Organic cottage cheese (low fat, not too hard one, best make your own)(or yogurt) 2-5 Tbsp. of flaxseeed oil- 1-3 Tbsp. of freshly ground up flaxseed (coffee grinder ($15) works fine) enough water to make it soft little cayenne optional: little garlic little red pepper little champagne Make it very soft. Eat some of it every day. (PS Adjust quantities for your taste !) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- THE BUDWIG FLAX OIL DIET The Flaxseed (Linseed) oil diet was originally proposed by Dr. Johanna Budwig, a german biochemist and expert on fats and oils, in 1951 and recently re-examined by Dr. Dan C. Roehm M.D. FACP (Oncologist and former cardiologist) in 1990. Dr. Roehm claims: "this diet is far and away the most successful anti-cancer diet in the world". Budwig claims that the diet is both a preventative and a curative. She says the absence of linol-acids [in the average western diet] is responsible for the production of oxydase, which induces cancer growth and is the cause of many other chronic disorders. The beneficial oxydase ferments are destroyed by heating or boiling oils in foods, and by nitrates used for preserving meat, etc. The theory is: the use of oxygen in the organism can be stimulated by protein compounds of sulphuric content, which make oils water-soluble and which is present in cheese, nuts, onion and leek vegetables such as leek, chive, onion and garlic, but especially cottage cheese. Ferments of cell respiration closely connected with the highly unsaturated fatty acids, are also needed for proper oxydation. It is essential to use only unrefined, cold-pressed oils with high linolic acid content, such as linseed, sunflower, soya, poppyseed, walnut, and corn oils. Such oil should be consumed together with foods containing the right proteins otherwise the oils will have the OPPOSITE EFFECT, causing more harm than good. The best combination is cottage cheese and linseed oil. The linseed should be freshly ground. Carbohydrates containing natural sugar, such as dates, figs, pears, apples and grapes, are also included in the diet. Honey is also beneficial. Most of the synthetic vitamin A preparations are bad because they contain oxidation products, but much carotine as provitamin A (from carrot) is consumed. Vitamin B from buttermilk, yoghurt, and natural yeast is beneficial. A person requires daily about 4 oz. of cottage cheese mixed well with 1.5 oz. of linseed oil and 1 oz. of milk. A blender or egg beater works fine. The mixture an be sweeten with honey or otherwise flavoured naturally. Fresh fruits can be added. Every morning 2 spoonfuls of freshly ground linseed oil should be taken in luke warm buttermilk or yoghurt. The diet is indicated for all kinds of chronic diseases, especially heart ailments (corony thrombosis), gall disorders, diabetes, arthritis, and malignancies. It improves failing hearing and sight. It is the ideal nutrient for children and infants. It is suggested that this diet be supplemented with lactic acid ferments (4). "What she (Dr. Johanna Budwig) has demonstrated to my initial disbelief but lately, to my complete satisfaction in my practice is: CANCER IS EASILY CURABLE, the treatment is dietary/lifestyle, the response is immediate; the cancer cell is weak and vulnerable; the precise biochemical breakdown point was identified by her in 1951 and is specifically correctable, in vitro (test-tube) as well as in vivo (real)... " (Roehm, "Townsend Letter for Doctors", July 1990) GENERAL RULES The patient has no nourishment on day ..1 other than 250 ml (8.5 oz) of Flax Oil with honey plus freshly squeezed fruit juices (no sugar added!). In the case of a very ill person, champagne may be added on the first day in place of juice and is taken with the Flax Oil and honey. Champagne is easily absorbable and has a serious purpose here. 1) SUGAR IS ABSOLUTELY FORBIDDEN. Grape juice may be added to sweeten any other freshly squeezed juices. 2) Other 'forbiddens' are: - All animal fats. - All Salad Oils (this included commercial mayonnaise) - All Meats (chemicals & hormones) - Butter - Margarine - Preserved Meats (the preservatives block metabolism even of Flax Oil) 3) Freshly squeezed vegetable juices are fine - carrot, celery, apple, and red beet. 4) Three times daily a warm tea is essential - peppermint, rose hips or grape tea - all sweetened as desired with honey. One cup of black tea before noon is fine. DAILY PLAN Before breakfast - a glass of Acidophilus milk or Sauerkraut juice is taken. Breakfast - Muesli (regular cereal) is overlaid with 2 tablespoons (30 ml) of Flax Oil and honey and fresh fruit according to season - berries, cherries, apricots, peaches, grated apple. Vary the flavour from day to day. Use any nuts except peanuts! Herbal teas as desired or black tea. A 4 oz (120 g) serving of THE SPREAD (directions below). This is fine to eat 'straight' like a custard, or add it to other foods taken in the day as you will see. Morning tea (10am) - A glass of fresh carrot juice, apple, celery, or beet-apple juice is taken. Lunch - Raw salad with yoghurt-Flax Oil Mayonnaise (directions below). In addition to 'greens' salads, use grated turnips, carrots, kohlrabi, radishes, sauerkraut or cauliflower. A fine powder of horseradish, chives or parsley may be added for flavour. Cooked Meal Course - Steamed vegetables, potatoes, or such grains as rice, buck-wheat or millet may be served. to these add either THE SPREAD or THE MAYO - for flavour and to up your intake of Flax Oil. Also mix THE SPREAD with potatoes for an especially hearty meal. Add caraway, chives, parsley or other herbs. Dessert - Mix fresh fruit other than those used for breakfast with THE SPREAD, this time (instead of honey), flavoured using cream of lemon, vanilla or berries. Afternoon Tea (4pm) - A small glass of natural wine (no preservatives) or champagne or fresh fruit juice with 1-2 tablespoons of honey-coated Fax Seeds. Supper - Have this early, at 6pm. Make a hot meal using buckwheat, oat or soy cakes. grits from buckwheat are the very best and can be placed in a vegetable soup, or in a more solid form of cakes with herbal sauce. Sweet sauces & soups can always be given far more healing energy by adding THE SPREAD. Only honey or grape juice can be used for sweeteners. NO white sugar (or brown!) Only freshly squeezed juices and NOT reconstituted juices (preservative danger) may be used. These must be completely natural. How to prepare 'THE SPREAD' Place 250 ml (8.5 oz) Flax Oil into a mixer bowl and add one pound (450 g) of 1 ottage Cheese (ie low fat eg Quark) and add 4 tablespoons (60 ml) of Honey. Turn on the mixer and add just enough low fat milk or water to get the contents of the bowl to blend in together. In 5 minutes, a preparation of custard consistency results that has NO taste of the oil (and no oily 'ring' should be seen when you rinse out the bowl). Alternatively, you can use Yoghurt instead of Cottage Cheese in proportions of 1 oz (30 g) of Yoghurt to 1 tablespoon (15 ml) each of Flax Oil and of honey and blend as above. NOTE: When Flax Oil is blended like this, it does not cause diarrhoea even when given in large amounts. It reacts chemically with the (sulphur) proteins of the cottage cheese, yoghurt, etc. How to prepare 'THE MAYO' (Mayonnaise): Mix together 2 tablespoons (30 ml) Flax Oil, 2 tablespoons (30 ml) milk, and 2 tablespoons (30 ml) Yoghurt. Then add 2 tablespoons (30 ml) of Lemon juice (or Apple Cider Vinegar) and add 1 teaspoon (2.5g) Mustard plus some herbs such as marjoram or dill. Next add 2 or 3 slices of health food store pickles (no preservatives! - read label!) and a pinch of herbal salts. (The above mayonnaise plus lots of mustard and a few bananas is very tasty!) Concluding remarks by Dr. Roehm - "I only wish that all my patients had a PhD in Biochemistry and Quantum Physics to enable them to see how with such consummate skill this diet was put together. It is a wonder. The champagne vehicle IS easier to assimilate and get someone almost on their death-bed going again. A retention enema of 250 ml (8.5 oz) of oil is another route to get this precious life-furthering, ELECTRON-RICH oil into the body. It can also be applied to the skin for transdermal absorption. I'll answer your questions and give you "special orders" for you particular case. You will have to remain on this diet for a good 5 years, at which time your tumour may have disappeared. Persons who break the rules of this diet, Dr Budwig reports, (ie eating preserved meats, candy, etc) will sometimes grow rapidly worse and cannot be saved after they come back from their spree (bon-bons mean bye-bye). In 1967, Dr Budwig broadcast the following sentence during an interview over the South German Radio Network, describing her incoming patients with failed operations and x-ray therapy": "Even in these cases it is possible to restore health in a few months at most, I would truly say 90f the time". "This has never been contradicted, but this knowledge has been a long time reaching this side of the ocean, hasn't it? Cancer treatment can be very simple and very successful once you know how. The cancer interests dont want you to know this. May those of you who have suffered from this disease (and I include your family and friends in this) forgive the miscreants who have kept this simple information from reaching you for so long". (signed) Dan C. Roehm, M.D. FACP -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "The best, purest, most carefully prepared Flax Oil in America is, in my opinion", said Roehm, "is Omegaflo. Arrowhead mills label is most often seen in Florida (USA). Look for the Omegaflo". "FLAX (LINSEED) OIL is readily denatured by oxygen, heat, and light. That's why it is used in paint. Rancid oil is bad for health, so oil MUST be carefully produced, packed under nitrogen in light-proof containers, refrigerated until used, used as fresh as possible, and stabilised with protein (THE SPREAD, etc) promptly once the container is opened..." Flax Seeds may also be used. Seeds need only be cracked in a food blender, or they may be ground in a coffee grinder. One needs three times the amount of seed to get the oil equivalent. Seeds are high in calories, so one may gain weight. The seeds are also high in soluble fibre, so blending with liquid tends to produce ever-hardening "jellies". Fresh-cracked seed sprinkled on muesli & eaten promptly tastes great. ------- Ed McCabe (p85, "Oxygen Therapies") discusses his point of view on essential fatty acids: "The red blood cells in the lungs give up carbon dioxide and take on oxygen. They are then transported to the cell site via the blood vessels, where, they release their oxygen into the plasma. This released oxygen is "attracted" to the cells by the "resonance" of the pi-electron" oxidation-enhancing fatty acids. Otherwise, oxygen cannot work its way into the cell. "Electron rich fatty acids" play the decisive role in "respiratory enzymes, which are the basis of cell oxidation...". "Dont eat anything hydrogenated like (like margarine, or fried foods) as it defeats oxygenation. Avoid products that say "hydrogenated". "We should eat essential polyunsaturated fatty acids to enhance oxygenation. They can be found naturally in Carotene, Saffron, and Flaxseed oil." REFERENCES 1. Dr. Johanna Budwig is known and highly respected around the world as Germany's premier biochemist. In addition, Dr. Budwig holds a Ph.D. in Natural Science, has undergone medical training, and was schooled in pharmaceutical science, physics, botany and biology. In all courses, this brilliant scientist excelled. She is best known for her extensive research on the properties and benefits of flaxseed oil combined with sulphurated proteins in the diet, and over the years has published a number of books on the subject, including "Cancer--A Fat Problem," "The Death of the Tumor," and "True Health Against Arteriosclerosis, Heart Infarction & Cancer." Dr. Budwig has assisted many seriously ill individuals, even those given up as terminal by orthodox medical practitioners, to regain their health through a simple regimen of nutrition. The basis of Dr. Budwig's program is the use of flaxseed oil blended with low-fat cottage cheese. In the mid 1950's, Dr. Budwig began her long and meticulous research on the importance of essential fatty acids (linoleic and linolenic) in the diet. Her subsequent discoveries and announcements sparked mixed reactions. While the general public was eager for this astounding information, German manufacturers of commercial dietary fats (margarine, hard shortening, vegetable oils) went to extremes to prevent her from publishing her findings. Fortunately, while Dr. Budwig's vital announcements were initially met with resistance backed by those with financial stakes in the commercial fats industry, her persistence paid off. Today, Dr. Johanna Budwig is world renowned for her important discoveries on the benefits of flaxseed oil. Her fame precedes her as she lectures all over Europe. Fats-Good and Bad Dr. Johanna preaches against the use of what she calls "pseudo" fats. In order to extend the shelf life of their products, manufacturers use chemical processes that render their food products harmful to the body. These harmful fats go by a number of names, including "hydrogenated," "partially hydrogenated" and even "polyunsaturated." The chemical processing of fats destroys the vital electron cloud within the fat. Once the electrons have been removed, these fats can no longer bind with oxygen, and they actually become a harmful substance deposited within the body. The heart, for instance, rejects these fats and they end up as inorganic fatty deposits on the heart muscle itself. Chemically processed fats are not water-soluble when bound to protein. They end up blocking circulation, damage heart action, inhibit cell renewal and impede the free flow of blood and lymph fluids. The bio-electrical action in these areas slows down and may become completely paralyzed. The entire organism shows a measurable loss of electrical energy which is replenished only by adding active lipids to the diet. These nutritional fats are truly vital for man and beast alike. Science has proven that fats play an important role in the functioning of the entire body. Fats (lipids) are vital for all growth processing, renewal of cells, brain and nerve functions, even for the sensory organs (eyes and ears), and for the body's adjustment to heat, cold and quick temperature changes. Our energy resources are based on lipid metabolism. To function efficiently, cells require true polyunsaturated, live electron-rich lipids, present in abundance in raw flaxseed oil. True polyunsaturated fats greedily absorb proteins and oxygen and pump them through the system. Lipids are only water-soluble and free-flowing when bound to protein; thus the importance of protein-rich cottage cheese. When high quality, electron-rich fats are combined with proteins, the electrons are protected until the body requires energy. This energy source is then fully and immediately available to the body on demand, as nature intended. Proven Benefits Still Pouring In Since Dr. Johanna Budwig's findings on the benefits of flaxseed oil have been widely publicized, scientists around the world have eagerly jumped on the bandwagon. Studies conducted using flaxseed oil on numerous disorders have been pouring in from all over the world, showing impressive results, including anti-tumor activity, increased metabolism, greatly boosted immune system, reduced cholesterol levels, normalized blood pressure levels and inhibition of cancer cell growth. Books research reports, articles and testimonials abound, all touting the healthy benefits achieved by supplementing the diet with organic, raw, cold-pressed flaxseed oil with low-fat cottage cheese. Dr. Budwig's research was based on using the ratio of 2 tablespoons flaxseed oil mixed with one-quarter cup of low fat cottage cheese. Backed with all this extensive research, the indisputable fact is: Supplementing your diet daily with flaxseed oil combined with sulphurated proteins could very well be the most important thing you do for yourself every day. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A top European cancer research scientist, Dr Johanna Budwig, has discovered a totally natural formula that not only protects against the development of cancer but people all over the world who have been diagnosed with incurable cancer and sent home to die have actually been cured and now lead normal healthy lives. After three decades of research Dr. Budwig, sixtime nominee for the Nobel Award, found that the blood of seriously ill cancer patients was always, without exception, deficient in certain important essential ingredients which included substances called phosphatides and lipoproteins. (The blood of a healthy person always contains sufficient quantities of these essential ingredients. However, without these natural ingredients cancer cells grow wild and out of control.) Blood analysis showed a strange greenish-yellow substance in place of the healthy red oxygen carrying hemoglobin that belongs there. This explained why cancer patients weaken and become anemic This startling discovery led Dr. Budwig to test her theory. She found that when these natural ingredients where replaced over approximately a three month period, tumors gradually receded. The strange greenish elements in the blood were replaced with healthy red blood cells as the phosphatides and lipoproteins almost miraculously reappeared. Weakness and anemia disappeared and life energy was restored. Symptoms of cancer, liver dysfunction and diabetes were completely alleviated. Dr. Budwig then discovered an all natural way for people to replace those essential ingredients their bodies so desperately needed in their daily diet. By simply eating a combination of just two natural and delicious foods not only can cancer be prevented but in case after case it was actually cured. (These two natural foods, organic flax seed oil & cottage cheese) must be eaten together to be effective since one triggers the properties of the other to be released.) After more than 10 years of solid clinical application, Dr. Budwig's natural formula has proven successful where many orthodox remedies have failed. Dr. Budwig's formula has been used therapeutically in Europe for prevention of: Cancer! Arteriosclerosis, Strokes, Cardiac Infarction, Heartbeat (irregular), Liver (fatty degeneration), Lungs (reduces bronchial spasms), Intestines (regulates activity). Stomach Ulcers (normalizes gastric juices), Prostate (hypertopic), Arthritis (exerts a favorable influence), Eczema (assists all skin diseases), Old age (improves many common afflictions), Brain (strenghthens activity), Immune Deficiency Syndromes (multiple sclerosis, autoimmune illnesses) Thousands have flocked to hear Dr. Budwig lecture all over Europe. The many people Dr. Budwig's formula has helped testify to the benefits of her remarkable discovery. Following are a few examples: In one of my interviews with Dr. Budwig I was introduced to Siegried Ernst, M.D.. He is a rare and dedicated man who counts among his personal friends the current Pope as well as many other dignitaries. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Testimonials : Dr. Ernst Seventeen years ago Dr. Ernst had developed cancer for which he had major surgery requiring removal of his stomach. Two years later he had a recurrence of the cancer and was offered chemotherapy as the only available remedy. There was little hope for survival as virtually all individuals with recurrence of this type of cancer rarely last a year. Dr. Ernst knew that chemotherapy was not only ineffective for his type of cancer but completaly destructive of the quality of life, so he refused. He turned to Dr. Budwig and her formula for help. He religiously followed Dr. Budwig's formula and fifteen years later has not had any recurrence of cancer. As a matter of fact he seemed to me to be in perfect health and is tireless for a man in his late seventies. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Maria W. Maria W. tells her story in her own words: "I was told by the most expert of doctors that I would have to be operated on to cut out the cancerous tumor that was causing a swelling under my eye. They explained that the size of the tumor was much greater inside and that there was very serious bone involvement. The malignancy was too far advanced to respond to radiation treatment. The doctors planned to remove considerable facial tissue and bone. I was afraid for my life, but being a young woman, couldn't bear the thought of such disfigurement. When I heard about Dr. Budwig's natural formula, I was skeptical but desperate for help. After four months on this regimen, the swelling under my left eye completely disappeared. The doctors at the University hospital gave me many exhausting tests. One told me, 'If I didn't have your previous x-rays and medical history in front of me, I wouldn't believe that you ever had cancer. There is hardly any indication of a tumor remaining.' I never thought using Dr, Budwig's formula would be so successful. My whole family and I are very grateful." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sandy A. An examination of Sandy A. revealed arachnoidal bleeding due to an inoperable brain tumor. The doctors informed Sandy that he was beyond medical help. At his expressed wish, Sandy was discharged from the hospital and sent home to die in peace. A friend brought Dr. Budwigs formula to Sandys attention. Sandy writes. Since I went on the Budwig regimen, the paralysis is of my eyes, arms, and legs has receded daily. After only a short period of time, I was able to urinate normally. My health improved so rapidly that I was soon able to return to my work part-time. Shortly after that, I was again examined at the Research Center and my reflexes were completely normal. The Budwig diet saved my life! Ten years later, I was given a thorough examination at the Center as a follow-up. My incredible recovery has been written up In many medical journals and I have become what they call a 'textbook case,' and all because of Dr. Johanna Budwig's simple diet." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Timmy G. Seven years ago Timmy G. was diagnosed as having Hodgkins disease. The child was operated on and underwent 24 radiation treatments, plus additional experimental therapies that the experts hoped would be of some small help. When Timmy failed to respond favorably to these heroic measures, he was discharged as incurable, and given six months to live and sent home to die. The desperate parents contacted specialists all over the world. A famous newspaper took up Timmy's cause and ran editorials pleading for someone to come forth who could offer hope for the life of a child. All the specialists who replied confirmed the cruel prognosis: There was no hope or help for Timmy. At this dark hour the miracle the family had prayed for happened! Timmy's mother told her story to the press: "A friend sent me a printed piece about one of Dr. Budwig's speeches. This material gave us hope and I contacted Dr. Budwig. In just five days, (on the Budwig regimen) Timmy's breathing became normal for the first lime In almost two years. From this day on, Timmy began to feel good again. He went back to school, started swimming and by winter he was doing craft work. Everyone who knows him says how well he looks." At age 18 Timmy is showing great promise in his university work. He knows he owes his life to Dr. Budwig and thanks her daily in his prayers. One of the two foods in on Budwig's formula, cottage cheese, is available in nearly every grocery store in America. The other, pure organic linseed oil, however comes primarily from Europe and can only be found in certain health food stores throughout the United States. By simply mixing these two delicious foods together and eating them you will be providing yourself and your family with the optimal preventive nutritional protection against cancer and other disease. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Today, fresh expeller pressed flaxseed oil is available in most countries in the world, including USA and Europe. In 1900, only 3% of the population died of cancer.2 But now, cancer has become so common that virtually everyone knows someone afflicted with this terrible disease. In fact, for the average American, contraction of cancer isn't the exception; instead, it has become the rule.3 We've come to accept cancer as unstoppable, incurable and even a natural part of life. This perception is a tragedy, since cancer is not a natural disease for man and is preventable. What is shocking to most people, is the scientific fact that cancer is genetically recessive, not dominant. In fact, the human body is highly resistant to cancer. In 1969, Professor Henry Harris of Oxford University shook the cancer research community to its core when he proved these previous theories wrong. Professor Harris took normal tissue cells and fused three types of cancer cells to them. Surely, he thought, the cancer cells would take over the normal cells and "convert" them into cancer. Surprisingly, they grew normally.4 Contrary to popular opinion, cancer takes several decades to develop in humans.5 Given this long incubation period, science can show us the way to destroy any initial pre-cancerous cells and keep the cancerous ones from causing widespread damage. If you think cancer has a genetic basis, then think again. Dr Robert A. Weinberg of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), one of the world's leading cancer researchers and discoverer of the so-called oncogene (cancer-causing gene), reversed his previous conclusions after discovering that "fewer than one DNA base in a million appears to have been miscopied". It's not enough of a defect! His exact words: "Something was very wrong. The notion that a cancer developed through the successive activation of a series of oncogenes had lost its link to reality." He called the genetic discoveries made thus far "sterile".6 The prime cause of cancer is therefore not genetic. This was announced in 1998. Did you hear about it? Probably not. In 2006, the heads of the world's largest cancer research centre in Houston, Texas, announced that cancer's prime cause isn't genetic: "'If it could have happened [solving cancer with genetics], it would have already happened with genetic mutations,' said William Brinkley, a senior vice-president at Baylor who says other research should take precedence over the cancer genome project Dr John Mendelsohn [president of M. D. Anderson Cancer Center] states, 'Any claims that this [genetic research] is going to be the key to curing cancer are not appropriate.'"7 Thus, the prime cause of cancer is not a genetic mutation. Even if cancer "runs in your family", there is real hope. Unfortunately, the geneticists have it backwards, attempting to force the facts to fit their genetics-based theories when they don't fit the facts, because, as Professor Harris demonstrated many years ago, cancer isn't genetically dominant. Where does this leave us? Where can we look for solutions? What about the popular nutritional solutions to fighting cancer? The popular anti-cancer "solutions" don't work Most people diligently follow the experts' recommendations in the hope of winning the war on cancer. Unfortunately, virtually nothing of what we are told is based on scientific facts. Consider the following list of supposed "solutions", along with the date of their published failures as reported in the world's leading medical journals. Many of us never hear of the retractions and consequently keep following methods that don't protect us from contracting cancer. (a) Fruits and vegetables: Even the green leafy vegetables don't protect against contracting breast cancer (JAMA 2001; 285:769-776).8 (b) Fibre: This worsens colon cancer rather than helping prevent it (Lancet 2000; 356:1286-7).9 (c) Mammography: Samuel S. Epstein, MD (chairman of the Cancer Prevention Coalition), Rosalie Bertell and Barbara Seaman published an article exposing truths about mammography that most women have never been told (Int J Health Sci 2001; 31(3):605-15): "Contrary to popular belief and assurances by the US media...mammography is not a technique for early diagnosis. In fact, a breast cancer has usually been present for about eight (8) years before it can finally be detected..."10 (d) Fish oil: Most fish oil supplements are worthless in preventing cancer and may be hazardous to your health (articles: 19952006). The International Society for the Study of Fatty Acids and Lipids (ISSFAL) 4th Congress, which met on 49 June 2000 in Tsukuba, Japan, reported the following:11 "...[S]tudies indicate that at the levels used, fish oil [comprised of omega-3 derivatives] decreases a wide range of immune cell responses (natural killer cell, cytotoxic T lymphocyte activities, lymphocyte proliferation and production of IL-2 and IFN-y (1,2))..." "...Recent studies have indicated that relatively low levels of the long chain omega-3 fatty acids (EPA or DHA)...are sufficient to bring about some of the suppressive effects..." "...This decrease (of inhibited lymphocyte proliferation and natural killer cell activity) causes increased cellular bacteria [infection] and impaired tumor cell killing." Any substance causing impaired tumour cell killing ability is cancer-causingthe opposite of what we desire. With so many of us consuming fish oil, could this be another reason that cancer contraction rates are increasing instead of decreasing? Fish oil is also worthless in preventing heart disease, and Harvard Medical School warned us about this years ago but too few Americans listened.12 Consuming whole fish instead of fish oil failed, too.13 The Japanese have greater cancer rates and greater heart disease rates than Americans. Cancer has been Japan's number-one cause of death since 1981.14 The popular media don't often disclose these startling facts. In January 2006, the omega-3 anti-cancer fallacy was exposed (JAMA 2006; 295(4)): "A large body of literature spanning numerous cohorts from many countries and with different demographic characteristics does not provide evidence to suggest a significant association between omega-3 fatty acids and [lack of] cancer incidence. Dietary supplementation with omega-3 fatty acids [is] unlikely to prevent cancer."15 The most comprehensive analysis to date, published in the British Medical Journal of 24 March 2006, reviewing 96 trials including 44 trials with supplements and five trials consisting of mainly ALA (parent omega-3) from plants like flax with the remainder being fish oil, confirms the anti-cancer failure: "We found no evidence that omega-3 fats had an effect on the incidence of cancer and there was no inconsistency... This systematic review assessed the health effects of using omega-3 fats (together or separately) on total mortality, cardiovascular events, cancer and strokes in a wide variety of participants and found no evidence of a clear benefit of omega-3 fats on health."16 Unfortunately, in spite of these facts, most physicians around the world still recommend fish oil to prevent both cancer and heart disease. (e) Soy: Soy products won't protect you against contracting cancer, either. The properties of soy are still touted by nutritionists, physicians and popular health and beauty publications, all ignorant of the scientific facts. There is a very hazardous side to soy that you need to know about. For example, the article "Soybean Goiter: Report of Three Cases" (NEJM 1960; 262(22):1099-1103) details three cases of infants developing goitre when they were consuming soybean "formula". The condition was rapidly eliminated in two of the infants when the soy "formula" was terminated. The third child was cured when iodine was added to the diet.17 What did soy formula have to do with thyroid (goitre) problems? Soybeans are a source of isoflavonoids, including genistein and daidzein. Contrary to popular belief and what is often reported in the media, they are both hazardous to your health. The following comes from Biochemical Pharmacology 1997; 54:1087-96): "Soybeans contain compounds (genistein and daidzein-the 'active ingredients') that inhibit [interfere with] thyroid peroxidase (TPO) which is essential to thyroid hormone synthesis [production]." Soybeans are not good for the thyroid! The popular so-called phyto-oestrogens genistein and daidzein are actually endocrine disruptors. Women around the world have been misled. What does soy "formula" have to do with the iodine deficiency? Soy contains phytates which "magnetise out" essential nutrients like iodine. Today, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Department of Health and Human Services, lists 288 records of soy at its "FDA Poisonous Plant Database" (March 2006 revision). Their website will shock you as you discover that soy is anything but a health food (http://www.cfsan.fda.gov/~djw/pltx.cgi?QUERY=soy).18 Soy harms your immune system, too. Back in 1975, the Canadian Journal of Biochemistry reported that soybeans actually weaken your immune system:21 "Soybean trypsin inhibitor was found to inhibit transformation of human lymphocytes..." Here's why this happens. Trypsin is an enzyme produced by your pancreas and used in digesting protein; it is critical for antibody production. An inhibitor is something that disables. Think of it like having one foot on the gas and another on the brake of your automobile at the same time. Your car's engine would blow up. So a trypsin inhibitor will irritate your pancreas, stressing it to produce hormones when it can't, leading to decreased oxygenation from the irritation. Soy prevents the protein you eat from being fully utilised and digested. Your immune system can't get fuelled with proper antibodies and lymphocytes--a double whammy. Therefore, soy is cancer-causing to your pancreas, and cancer of the pancreas is typically a death sentence. Because of bad advice, many women especially have decreased the amount of cancer-fighting animal-based protein they consume in favour of soy. Resist this incorrect advice and minimise your chances of contracting both thyroid and pancreatic cancer. Dr Otto Warburg's anti-cancer research Many of my physician colleagues were shocked to discover these truths. How many of us saw these important medical journal findings reported in the popular press? Unfortunately, not enough of us. Don't despair, because there is an anti-cancer answer. It was discovered back in 1925 by Otto Warburg, MD, PhD. Dr Warburg has been referred to as the greatest biochemist of the 20th century; the sheer number and magnitude of his discoveries qualify him as the most accomplished biochemist of all time.22 In the 1920s, Dr Warburg carried on the research on respiratory enzymes, certain vitamins and minerals that the body requires for the utilisation of oxygen in the cells, which eventually earned him the Nobel Prize in 1931. (Today, these vitamins and minerals are termed "co-enzymes".) The Nobel Committee clearly expected the medical world to benefit through Otto Warburg's vital discoveries about cancer. Unfortunately, politics intervened and cancer wasn't eradicated. Despite his early successes and honours, Dr Warburg continued to make major fundamental discoveries throughout his later years as well, capping off an amazingly fruitful 60-year career in research. In addition, Dr Warburg often created new tools for his research. For example, he discovered how to measure the pressure of oxygen in a living cell by developing a special manometera very important development that led to his discovery that low oxygen concentration and pressure always presaged the development of cancer. The importance of Dr Warburg's achievement is that he isolated the functional prime cause of cancer. Rather than working on a theoretical level too far removed from the physiological realities of cancer to be able to provide practical therapies and preventive programs, he described the actual conditions in the cells that set up and cause cancer, and by doing this made it possible for others later to develop functional, practical ways
