Flat Foot Surgery Knowledge Base
Considering surgery on my flat foot? My left foot is completely flat and my right foot has a slight arch. I have problems standing for long periods of time because of immense pain in the bottom of my foot. It even causes me to limp slightly. I'm considering surgery on the foot and I need detail on what to expect, what I should do.....everything. Can anyone recommend good shoes (specifics)? Any other kind of help would be great.
about how much does this flat foot correction surgery cost without insurance? I don't really know the name of the surgery, but they will sorta insert a little titanium bullet between two bones that have very weak ligaments in order to restrain my foot from goint to the wrong direction. My parents have given me no clue of how much it will cost (all of us live outside the US and we don't have US insurance) so I need to know about how much it will cost in order to make the decition. The surgery will be performed (If performed) in El Paso, Texas just so you get the idea
Can I join the US Air Force if I had foot surgery? I am 23 and interested in joining the US Air Force. 6 years ago I had foot surgery on my left foot because it is flat and used to always hurt. They fused one of the bones (which was supposed to stop the pain) by putting a few small screws in it, and now I am wondering if this will affect my ability to join the Air Force. I can still run, jump do push ups, sit ups, and walk long distances, etc. Anyway, does anyone know if I can join the Air Force after having this type of surgery? Thanks
I was told I have flat feet and needed surgery. Should I exhaust alternatives or is surgery my only option? I am 14 and was diagnosed with a severe flat foot deformity. I am getting orthotics but was still recommended to have surgery anyways. We are getting a second opinion but the recommended surgery was the bullet plug to go in between the bones. Does anyone have any comments, past experiences, suggestions, alternatives, or should I get the surgery?I'm getting inserts, but was told they couldn't correct the severity of my feet. Mind you, it is severe, my ankles literaly touch the ground on the inside of my ankles when I stand/walk and it causes me issues. I don't have clubbed feet, it is the other way. Any suggestions? Please answer!!!!
how effective is surgery for flat feet? I have horribly flat feet and shoe inserts do nothing. I find many articles on things they can do for flat feet, and they all say surgery is possible, but it should be a last resort. But thats usually all they say since most of the articles are also from people wanting to sell shoe inserts. Anyone know why it they say that or how effective the surgery is? Please note... i have been unsing inserts for years. I have an appointment to see a pediatrist, but thats weeks away. So please don't make comments about that...it doesn't answer the question! Thank you The reason it bothers me is because my feet always hurt, i can't run anymore because it hurts too much, and my knee has been swollen for no apparent reason for a week. All of this is a result of having flat feet. And im only 22. and until recently loved running.
I am 16... should I get foot surgery? My feet have always overpronated very badly (I have an arch, but it flattens when i walk, causing pain - this is even worse than having flat feet), and recently (over the past couple years) it has gotten a lot worse. I used to be the fastest runner, now i can't run at all without pain and i cant even walk barefoot. I got custom orthotics from my pediatrist a year ago, but even when wearing them during the day my feet still hurt at night. i have to ice them and i cant even walk without pain in the evening. its slightly better with orthotics, but i still have pain. I can't wear any shoes that aren't huge and ugly (bulky tennis shoes, high tops) or even walk barefoot at home! this is hard for any teenage girl, i want to feel free and wear what i want and be able to run and do normal activities! I can get foot surgery, which consists of placing a bolt in between the bones to keep my feet from flattening, and is apparently simple and short recovery. i understand that surgery is a big .... ... decision, but the foot surgeon told me that it is completely reversable and it could be taken out if it didnt work. My surgeon also wanted me to try every option before i consider surgery, so i am getting new and improved (meaning even bigger and bulkier) orthotics that supposviely work better. so i have a choice: i can either live the rest of my life contained in orthotics w/ out being able to run barefoot on the beach or do any other activity that all teenagers want to be able to do, OR run the risk of going under the knife. what should i do? almost forgot... here is the website for the bolt they will put in my foot: http://graphicsdept.com/hyprocure/what.htm sorry for all the complaining ;)
badly pronated feet (flat feet), is there surgery available ? I've had badly pronated feet (very low arch) which has been very painful. I've worn inserts in my shoes which helped for a while, but are no longer working well. standing on bare feet my feet are a size 11 1/2 (due to ligament streching, low arch), but wear a size 10 1/2 (due to arch in shoe sole). Doctors just suggest wearing inserts...but they don't feel the pain. Being an engineer I usually look to the mechanical aspects for a solution , so has anyone out there in the medical/podiatry field ever heard of a gizmo that you can put your foot & ankle in to get a 3d xray/ct scan/mri so it can be compared to a "nuetral" foot/ankle and be evaluated for surgery and/or correct orthotic ? what do other people do with badly pronated feet ?
Surgery????? I have a friend who had surgery because of flat feet that caused her pain when she did gymnastics i have flat feet also they don't cause me that much pain but ocasionally some pain why don't i need surgery? I still really don't get why she had surgery either!
is there surgery for flat feet? I've been wearing orthodics since I was seven. When I was little I would wake up in the middle of the night crying because my feet hurt so much. The orthodics have helped a lot, but I still can't do much with my feet. I'm in shape because I bike everywhere (it doesn't hurt the feet at all!) but I just can't actually WALK long distances without pain. And I'm twenty! I have places to go! I don't want to feel like I'm an 80 year old woman anymore. This is stupid. So please help if you know - what can I do at this point? Is there surgery? I'm just so frustrated.
How to diminish pain caused by flat feet? I've had flat feet since birth, even had surgery 15 years ago to remove an extra bone on the insides of each foot. I'm 25 now and in the past few weeks, I've been having a lot of pain on the inside of my right foot and it is radiating up into my ankle. I am on my feet literally all day, I sometimes don't sit down for 12 hours. This won't change anytime soon. Anyone know any exercises or home remedies to relieve the pain, besides just insoles? I'm tired of limping.
Is there anyway i can fix flat feet myself? Ive bin told by a doctor that i have flat feet. and i was wondering if there is anyway i can fix my flat feet with out surgery. my feet don't cause me pain or anything i just really like the look of feet with arches. but its not really a big deal i guess.
feet surgery question? I'm thinking if i should wait to have my surgery on my feet. I'm a sophomore in college, and I have really bad flat feet. During the surgery, the doctors are suppose to break my bones and place them how they are suppose to be. The recovery time is 9 months for each foot. Has anyone done this before? Has it cured their pain? If you did one leg at a time, did you use crutches? I'm going to talk to the doctor next week but i'm just curious to see if anyone else has had this problem.
How much does arch surgery cost? How much would a surgery cost to fix flat feet? I have flat feet and am wondering how much it would cost to "fix" them. It's not so much a medical reason as it is "cosmetic"
How can I get flat feet? Yes, I want flat feet. Also, is there a surgery to make your big toe shorter? If so, how much does it cost?
What should I do about my flat feet? I'm 13, and I have flat feet(on both, but more on my left). My feet hurt sooooooooooooooooooo bad when I walk or run!!!!!! I've been doing some reading on this and I seem to have rigid flat feet, by what people say. I don't want to have surgery, but it hurts sooooooooooooo bad!!!!!!!! I heard that insoles don't always help w/ flat feet. Is there any way I can tell if I have rigid flat feet w/out going to a doctor(I ask my regular doctor and he confirmed my flat feet, but then my feet didn't hurt that bad). As I am getting older, my feet hurt more nad more. I love to run and feet hurt so much that I don't run that much anymore.Because my feet hurt so much, I am starting to run on my toes and now my calfs hurt horribly! I read that sometimes, in serious cases, that flat feet can also cause knee, hip, back, and calf problems. I'm looking for some general info and advice on what I should do about my flat feet, please help!! Thank you! I tried buying shoes w/ high arches, but that didn't work. I haven't tried insoles yet though. Also, I would like to know how to tell the difference between a serious case of flat footedness(does that make sense..lol) and a regular case. Thanks again! I put something flat against my feet when sitting and not putting any weight on that foot, I don't seem to have very much of an arch. Thanks again!
Foot surgery for teen? I am 16 years old and looking forward to having a foot surgery in a couple months for my severely overpronating (arches that fall flat because the ligaments are too loose) feet. Trust me, I have tried and considered EVERYTHING before thinking about this surgery, I have tried orthodics but they are not strong enough to help the extent of my problem, I have considered waiting without it but I am usually in pain at the end of the day. I got tendonitis in the posterior tibial tendon from my condition and have been in a wheel chair off and on... I crawled around the house sometimes and now I'm out of the wheelchair but I really can't do much walking without pain. If I don't get this surgery, I would be confined to wearing splints up my leg and strong orthotics and I might have tendon / joint damage. I have seen 3 docs and 2/3 reccomended surgery, one reccomending a bone graft surgery on the outside of the foot to strengthen it and prevent it from outwards motion and collapsing. ... so anyway I was just concerned because one of the pediatrists / foot surgeons suggested that I try more aggressive orthotics / leg splints and wear these for the rest of my life... the 2nd pediatrist said that he could not make orthotics strong enough for MY case, and the 3rd surgeon said that I should def. have this done. Sorry this is long but it is a difficult decision and as much as I want to have better feet i don't want to jump into a decision I might regret because this is my body and surgery is serious and irreversable... what do you mean, I ask for comfort? I am not looking for sympathy, I am looking for help making my decision.... thanks...
I am 17 I have flat feet.My doc fears i might need surgery.? 1.I suffer from ankle pain, back pain and Ihave tired feeling in my legs all the time,Ankel pain as well. 2.He told me about one procedure that akes 6mos to recoup from I personally want him to put implants into my feet so that way I may not suffer from any more pain for the rest of my life.
What is the deal with flat feet? I just don't understand what the big deal is. My lab partner showed me scars on his knees from a surgery he had, I asked what for, he said that he was flat footed. What's the big deal if you have flat feet? Does the arch in the foot provide certain advantages like better joint health and increased agility/mobility?
i hav flat foot? I HAV A FLAT FEET(faller arc) i wera those ortho sheos bt i still hav pain IS THE NEXT STEP SURGERY
How do I know if foot surgery is the right thing for me to do? 7 yrs ago a guy (who I didnt even know) got angry bcz I didnt say "hello" to him when he rode alongside me on his bike while I was walking. He waited till I walked a few feet, ran over my foot with his bike, then took off. I tripped, almost fell, my foot swelled & I was crying, that really hurt. After a day or 2 my foot was fine. 7 yrs later it bothers me to where even in the flattest & padded shoe it still hurts. Doctors said its trauma arthritis (caused by injury) and the joint area is worn out & suggested options but I still experience pain in that area of my foot. They suggested surgery to replace that joint area with a "surgical pin" and a 6month to a year healing time but I'm afraid I'll be in worst shape if I allow a doctor to perform surgery. Doctors make mistakes too. But what else can I do about my foot? Should I just have the surgery & trust that it'll be ok? Because I'm starting to think surgery will be my best option to repair the damaged area. But I'm scared.
Can you get in the ARMY with Flat Feet and a GED? My husband went down to the recruiter today and was told he could not join until the tattoo's on the side of his neck were removed. So...I was researching some things that would get rid of the tat's besides laser surgery and I found an acid that works as a peel to get rid of it. Before we begin this process we really want to be sure that he can join with flat feet and a GED. I have heard so many different storys, some say yes and others say no. He does have 8 college credits so far and will have 16 by January, but when they say 15 college credits plus GED equals Tier 1 is that for certain college credits or any classes. Then there is the flat feet issue. He can run fast and is on his feet all day everyday, he works for the garbage company. He has never had any problems with his feet or knees and there is no pain what so ever in his feet. I would appreciate any help that someone can give me, but those with experience in the army is what I am looking for a response from. Thank you. :)
finding a good foot doctor in michigan? My son has been told by several doctors that he needs surgery for this extreme flat feet. Every doctors said that he will not be able to walk by the time he is 40 yrs old (he's now 22). How do we go about finding the best doctor available?
Does anyone have foot spasms/cramps in the TOPS of their feet?? If so, what the cause of the pain? Help!!? I've had these terrific, painful cramps and/or spasms in the tops of my feet and can't find out what is causing it. I have read about MORTON'S NEUROMA as a possible cause, but can't get any doctor to do the test needed to see. I have the characteristic tender pain between the 3rd and 4th toes (at one doctor's appointment, he pressed down on the top of my foot here and left a bruise that lasted almost a month), the tingling, etc. connected with it, but no doctor is willing to do surgery on my feet to correct it because I have flat feet and arthritis in the soles of my feet as well. I can't take this pain much longer.
I just had surgery for morton's neuroma. Can somebody tell me what to expect? I had surgery in January to remove two really big neuromas between my third and fourth and fourth and fifth toes, and my foot is still swollen. These were caused by an accident, not flat feet or high heels, and I went more than a year before anyone was able to diagnose my problem and begin correct treatment. I'm doing physical therapy, but the therapist tells me I shouldn't be in pain any more at this point, and I still am. The exercises hurt, walking hurts, it randomly hurts. Can anyone who's had the same surgery contact me and tell me what they went through so I know if I'm doing okay or need to revisit my doctor? I just want to have some sort of recovery guidelines. I can't find anything on the internet. All information about neuromas seems to stop with "Sometimes surgery is necessary." Okay, and then what happens? I'd like to have a discussion with someone who's had the surgery, too. Please help!
Any tips to soothe flat feet? I've had severe flat feet for about three years now. It really is severe. I have had orthopedics's for two years and the only time I take them off is when I am in the shower or sleeping. I can't get surgery because my feet are still growing. I play alot of sports all the time (basketball, volleyball, track, badminton) so resting my feet is kind of out of the question. Although, sometimes when I play these sports my feet are in so much pain I just want to cut them off (really.) The best thing that I have heard so far was to roll a ball or rolling pin under your foot, and to ice your foot to reduce inflammation. Is their anything else I can do? There the ones you get from the specialist. The REALLY expensive ones that they mold your foot into.
Anyone know how to correct flat feet? Well I am 18 and I have a very severe case of flat feet and I was wondering of any other ways to correct them than just orthotics I have them and theye dont work.I have heard their are surgeries out there that can correct them but the problem is they usually take 6 months to fix and I want to know if their are any surgeries out there that can fix them quicker.
New way to fix flat feet? I was looking around and noticed a surger that is I think 3 years old now that will correct flat feet, they insert a titanium object into the foot that keeps the ankle from going down and inwards, I was wondering how much surgery like this might cost? I'm a guy living in the US. Please don't give me dumb answers like "Alot" I would really like to know, this is pretty serious for me.

how to curve flat feet? I have flat feet and I want to get them curved through any method except surgery. Any ideas?
Is it legal that a doctor diagnose you several chronic conditions put doesnt want to document them ? I have been in about 13 different doctors for my extreme pain, after over a year being off work by the doctors one of them ordered a bonescan & I was diagnosed with DEGENERATIVE ARTHROSIS, DEGENERATIVE CHANGES IN MY KEES AND FEET & PERIOSTITIS ATRIBUTTED TO ENTHESOPATHY, RSD, CRPS, TENDINITIS, SYNOVITIS, & AN UNHEALED FRACTURE ON MY FOOT, DEGENERATIVE OSTEOARTHRITIS & also I was told by the doctor Im flat footed. Im also having problems with my back & right hand because of my conditions side negative effects. I was told by one of this doctors I saw recently that my foot condition was severe & chronic & that there was nothing that could be done for my foot, no injections, or surgery. He said to me that i cant work in this condition because of the pain this is causing me. When Im ready to leave I ask him to please give me a copy of his medical opinions & diagnosis he just told me & he refused and said " I cant write all that, all I can write is CHRONIC FOOT PAIN. ?? is this legal ??? Obiously people that doesnt have my conditions, wouldnt know how painfull it is even when your are sitting, but since just a very few people know the pain this causes so let me add some more info. Even when youre sitting this hurts a lot on your feet & knees for some reason they locked & is very painful even when youre sitting. My lower to middle back also hurts a lot now because of all the changes in my body & alignment this conditions caused. Is very easy for someone that doesnt feel the pain to say:Cant you find a job were you are sitting?Very easy to say. Most of these people that thinks like this are the ones that makes a huge deal & issue when they get a simple headache or get their period,is easy to try to force someone to work when it isnt you who will feel the severe, chronic pain.Take this in consideration.TheQ was is it legal to put something severe & chronic like is something very simple & not serious. Check the definitions & effects of this conditions first if you can. Thanks I also forgot to mentioned that Ive being off work by the doctors on Physical Therapy for over a year and on medication wich theyve changed several times, but it doesnt help at all. I have the objective evidence on MRI and a Bonescan that shows all this problems and conditions, but none of this doctor wants to as some of them have told me "compromise themselves by putting themselves in the line by declare me disable because you are too young. If you were 50 or 55 old with your exact conditions I would have problems" by the way Im 29 with all this conditions that are normally comon on persons over 60 years old. I wonder if I have being discriminated because of my age.... All I know is that my conditions didnt care about my age.... correction: they say that if I were 50 or 55 years old they would have no problems declaring me disable, but since Im too young they wont do it & put their name on the line.....
health insurance for foot Hello, i was wondering I have flat feet and sometimes I get pains for standing up to long. Are there any type of health insurances out there that cover reconstructive surgery on the arches of my foot??
Best way to heal a stress fracture? Surgery? This is my 2nd stress fracture in the past year in the same spot in my left tibia. I play a lot of basketball and I'm flat-footed and have to wear orthodics, but I guess they're not doing their job. Has anyone experienced a situation like this, and does anyone think I should get surgery, because I have a feeling it's just going to happen again...
Flat feet and pigeon toe? both of my feet are flat arched and my right foot points inwards when i walk and when i stand. I'm 20 years old, and i usually dont feel any pain unless i walk a lot, but overall i don't have any problems, other than the aesthetics issue. My concern is if having this will affect me as i age? will they worsen? Do i need special insoles or will surgery be required?
Help for flat feet? I have extremely flat feet, my left foot rolls in and almost looks like I am walking on my ankle, my right foot isn't as bad but still doesn't have an arch. I have shoes inserts which don't seem to help. My knees and ankles constantly hurt and are swollen and I am not sure what I should do. Doctors are just saying I should be in pain and it's nothing that inserts can't help. Should I consider surgery or is there anything else that might help? Thanks!
Our local Hospital cancelled my son's surgery appointment and is refusing to provide service? My son has severly flat feet. After doing much research, we found a locale hospital and physician that would do an outpatient procedure (http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/medicalnews.php?newsid=29846) to correct his flat feet. Since he is required to be non-weight bearing on the foot for a few weeks, they are done one at a time. In December he was able to get the left foot done and we set up an appointment do get the right one done. A day before his scheduled surgery, the doctor called and said the hospital will not allow him to do the surgery because the hospital is not being reimbursed enough for the procedure. After calling the hospital, they said my insurance did pay for the procedure, the CPT code they bill does not reimburse them what the procedure costs. My son has one foot corrected and one foot not. There is no other hospital in town that will do the procedure. I am wanting to take legal action to get this done for him. Does anyone have any advice on this issue?
Does anyone have any comments, past experiences, suggestions, alternatives, or should I get the surgery? I'm getting inserts, but was told they couldn't correct the severity of my feet. Mind you, it is severe, my ankles literaly touch the ground when I stand/walk and it causes me issues. Please look at this before you answer! In response to the first answer, when I say my ankles almost touch the ground, I mean the other way. (The inside of my ankles.)

Anyone know about feet? Bunions, flat feet, etc? Okay I am only 23 - I have bunions, heel spurs, and flat feet :( I can only wear the flattest of shoes, any sort of arch in a shoe makes my "fallen arches" swell massively. I am a hairdresser and am on my feet all day. Lately the big pad of my feet (under my toes) has been really tender and sore to walk on. I just have messed up feet. I havent been to the foot doctor because its expensive as are orthopedics, etc. Does anyone have any advice? Do you think orthopedics would help me? I have also thought of surgery but dont know anything about it... They are just getting worse and worse and Im scared that I wont be able to walk by the time im 30!!
I have large, flat feet and I hate them...? I'm 18, 5'3", and have size 11 feet. They are flat and the bones are collapsed. therefore, i have weak ankles so they always sprain/twist. i also have EXTREMELY limited shoe choices as most styles end in size 10 or they have built in "comfort arches" which hurt my feet. not only am i in pain a lot, but i am unhappy with my feet and i actually get depressed when i go shoe shopping. i can only wear new balance sneakers or old navy flip flops. i have orthotics prescribed by a doctor but they are uncomfortable and i still twist my ankles so i dont get the point of them. does anyone know of an alternative solution, or a surgery or something? i'm getting desperate. i dont think i can live the rest of my life in sneakers. i want to wear cute shoes like every other teenage girl i see.
How to get a medical discharge from the army??? My sister is in the Army. She has just graduated boot camp & is now in AIT training. She is trying to get a medical discharge for a few different reasons! First off her recruiters never told her that if she had flat feet she wouldn't be able to join..which she does (and she is now in tremendous pain due to marching etc.)! She has also been injured in boot camp. She has a fractured hip...2 herniated disks in her lower back..and stress fractures in both knees and both ankles! The doctor she is seeing still hasn't talked about discharge yet or any other options! Can anyone help us out and tell us the process she has to go through..before she get's hurt even worse then she already is...they already told her she was going to end up having surgery on her hip atleast! Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated..even websites regarding the procedure or discharge or laws THANKS
Can cosmetic surgery---? I have four things about me that i want to change for my own personal confidance and i want to know if they are even possible through cosmetic surgery 1. Make my shoulders narrower/droopey. Im tired of having my 'defined' shoulders. i want them droopey. i want them aestetically more mideaval. blahblah. i hate my shoulders. 2. elongate my fingers- for piano playing. I have very tiny tiny delicate little hands but its bad for playing the piano when your hands are that of a 6 year old 3. Rib removal. to make my waist smaller. i dont have a super defined waist, and i hate it. 4. and lastly; higher arches in my feet. one reason because im self conscious about my alightly flat footed feet (although like my hands they are very small and narrow boned) and two because in ballet; you have to have a good leg line, and a lot of companies wont hire you if you dont have 'good feet' thats it. Please be gentle. i know I should be happy with my figure and i am that im working fine and all but whatever. -_- im sleepy and im in no way comparing my self. Ive set these own images in my head.
What yoga poses should I avoid if I've been diagnosed as having degenerative disc disease? My "specialist" doctor recently told me I had to quit running and weight lifting because I have degenerative disc disease. What yoga poses should I avoid? Almost overnight, I've lost my ability to comfortably do forward bends, plow/wide-legged plow, and knees to ears. I've already had surgery for a blow disc (L5-S1), but this pain appears when I run (or "power walk as I do now). I also have flat feet. His diagnosis is killing as I derive tremendous pleasure from running. As per the "Posture Presription", I know longer sit in chairs. I only squat or kneel at a desk. When sitting on a couch, I sit in cross legged postion with a lumbar roll. I do a 90 minute yoga session in the a.m., and a 30 minute one in the afternoon. As per the "McKenzie Method", I do cobra/backend every two hours. In other words, I do all I can to improve things. Nevertheless, the pain the area of my traps appears when I walk or run. Thank you.
Will I be limited because of painful chondromalacia? I am a 13 year old extreme athlete and about 6 monts ago I noticed a little pain in my knee. Now it's at the point where walking is painful. I don't want to give up my workout regimen but it's hard to do it. My podiatrist diagnosed chondromalacia but my P. T said that he didn't think that was it. I am seeing a podiatrist because of my painful flat feet. I have three questions: When would arthroscopic surgery be required? Who should I believe? Will I need to stop my activities and use crutches to rest it or what? Any info is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

My girlfriend has shortened Achilles tendons from high heels. What now? I have always noticed that my girlfriend tiptoes when she is barefoot and has cramps when she tries to keep her feet flat. She is 20 now and has been wearing only high-heeled sandals since she was 15. So, I took her to a podiatrist recently and he confirmed that her Achilles tendons are shortened. He recommended surgery. So here are the options: 1. Surgery to re-lengthen her tendons. (Doctor's preference) 2. Other therapeutic methods? Would massage or gradual stretching work? How about acupuncture? This is MY preference, as I want my girlfriend to be able to walk normally but don't like the sound of surgery. 3. Or keep things as they are. This is HER preference - she argues that she feels "good" in high heels and "comfortable" tiptoeing barefoot, and she doesn't want to wear flat shoes... ever. What is your suggestion? Okay, I'm beginning to lean towards the "keep things the way they are" choice. It's her decision, and if she says it doesn't hurt her, then so be it.
Has anyone had an Achilles tendon release done? Know anyone who has had it done? My son has severe flat feet and in addition to doing surgery to correct the feet, the Dr. wants to do an Achilles tendon release. Was looking for some information about the surgery, how it is performed and what recovery time is. Our follow up with the Dr. is in two weeks and would like to be prepared. THanks for your help!
When will I be able to walk after surgery to pin fractured tibia? I broke my tib and fib just above my ankle 6 weeks ago. I had surgery to pin my fibia and have been in pot for 6 weeks. The cast was removed 3days ago, I was expecting to have a walking pot put on but I was told I didnt need one and to start trying to walk on it. My ankle is very swollen and goes red and purple when I lower my foot to the floor. I can't bear to put any weight on it or put my foot flat to the floor due to the pain so walking is absolutely impossible! There was no mention of physiotherapy at the hospital nor was I given any exercises to help regain movement in my ankle. Is it just a case of elevating my leg until the swelling goes down (how long should this take?) and then I will be able to start to weightbear? Is there something wrong or am I just being a wimp?
"bilateral gastrocnemius recession" surgery ???? My niece is having this surgery next week, I googled/Wikipedia/webmd'd it all but I keep get misc items that do not pertain this this surgery. She has walked on her tip-toes since BIRTH and now at the age of 8 years old, they are doing this surgery to help her walk on her flat feet. anyone have any links?
I have Flat Feet? I have flat feet, I have orthodics but am wondering if there is any surgery options
Three questions regarding USMC Marine Recruitment: Contacts, Bad Knee, and Flat Feet.? I'm am very interested in joining the marines. However, I have a few complications I would love answered. 1)I have bad vision. It is corrected 20/20 with contact lenses. Can I wear my contact lenses through training and while on active duty? 2)I am flat footed. I have "fusion foot" which means I have absolutely no arch. I do have insoles I wear in my running shoes but I don't need them. I played football through high school and was a JuCo prospect, so it hasn't stopped me yet. Will this disqualify me? 3)My senior year of football I had a knee injury. My patella(kneecap) dislocated. I had athroscopic surgery to repair the tendon holding it in place, and a lateral release on the opposing side to keep it from pulling out of place. Regardless, I am at 100% strength with no complications. I do have a brace I have been wear for injury prevention, but I feel I can operate 110% without it.
is this bad news this has happened to me at 30 ? do you think i'll need plastic surgery like some are saying ? i have prematurely aged at the 3o due to a hard life and stress. i have bpd and ptsd- i feel i look a physical wreck, im bald, my skin looks colorless, dull, pasty, open pores...rough skin, dark deep lines under my eyes stretching to my cheek bones...i feel my eyes look like dark caverns. my other physical imperfections are: i have 2 missing teeth, at the front, bottom row due to an accident years ago.. a crooked little finger that droops over due to an injury months ago...doesnt straiten even with a splint put on for weeks. cracked skin, tears in the skin on the head of my penis that im waiting to see a dermatologist about.......openings in the skin that are pronounced all over the head. torn ankle ligaments, it clicks when i move it, i have to be careful how i walk on it because i can twist it easy and go sprawling over on it-- i will need surgery on it. whilst having my ankle examined i was told i was flat footed, i was given insoles. but whats really concerning me is my physical appearence, my face, the aging, dark lines, facial skin etc. my facial skin looks colorless, dull, pasty, without a glow or vibrancy. what do i do ? How do i cope with the fact ive prematurely aged at 30 years old due to a hard life and stress ?
Foot Problem? My mom took me to the foot doctor a few months ago because my foot looked flat. But the doctor found out that it was a lot worse than that. My achillies tendon is too short. That has caused my arch to fall and my heel to slide over. This requires surgery to fix. Three different surgeries in one time. The surgery is being done one foot at a time. The healing process is the hardest. 6 months in a cast all together both feet. The first 3 weeks I'm not alloud to put any pressure on my foot at all. Any ideas on how I can make it eaiser during the healing process?
Pain in ankles (most likely caused by flat feet)? Hey everyone :-) I go to school, and I get quite severe pains in my ankles when I walk and run (in the subtalar joint area). I have ankle supports to help with it but they don't do much. My parents are unwilling to let me go to the doctors about it. Is there anything that I could buy to help it, or is there a way of convincing my parents to let me go to the doctors about it? I doubt it's so serious that I would need subtalar fusion surgery, but I would appreciate it if someone could help :-) Thanks for the replies so far :-) I already have inserts for my shoes, but they don't make any difference at all. When I don't have them in my shoes, I don't notice any real difference from when they are in there, so I doubt that getting new ones would help. I've got a fairly high thresh-hold for pain, but I have sometimes passed out from it, but normally I don't. Also, I'm fairly sure that there's a law that says I'm not allowed to go to the doctors without a parent with me, so I can't really do that at the moment. And my parents don't really have the time to take me. So I can't go there. Is there anything that I can buy apart from the ankle supports and the inserts that I have in my shoes at the moment? Or am I just going to have to live with it?

My non-flat stomach problem!? I am sixteen years old I was 145 lbs a few month ago and lost alot of weight, I'm now around 135 lbs (5 feet 7 inches) hoping to flatten my non-flat stomach. It didn't work! (To my surprise) after two months of weight loss and sacrifice the fat belly was still there. Some told me to go for abdominal exercise, and I did just that, I now, literally have abdominal muscles, but the fat stomach is still there. I am really starting to lose hope, people! What is it my genetics? What can I do to get rid of this nightmare! I can't lose any more weight it's not good for my health! (I'm 135 lbs already!) What can I do? I'm ready to do anything just to get a flat stomach. Do you think I should wait and do more abdominal exercise? Or should I *sighs* go for surgery? :( I'm very athletic, I'm a sprinter too... I also have great stamina
please help im too embarrassed to take up ballet classes or get fitted for ballet shoes? one of my legs is a bit more than 1/2 inch shorter and i also have one flat foot so my flat foot is a bit longer than my arched foot (i wear an arch support but i cant wear it in ballet shoes can i?) i also wear a heel lift for my shorter leg and i cant wear that in ballet shoes either. the sales assistant will have to fit me with two different sized ballet shoes, im too embarrassed to allow this. and if i take ballet classes the teacher will see my leg discrepancy and one flat foot, how embarrassing. she might think that i dont know i have these problems and might then tell me in front of everyone. im an adult so i want to take adult ballet classes. surgery is not an option right now, i dont have the money. please help me deal with this, do you think that my situation is embarrassing? be honest. what would you do about it? im so depressed about my feet and short leg!
Do arch supports improve your arches? I was at therapy today working on my knee and my therapist noticed that I have "flat feet". He said that having flat feet and being active is what causes tears in the lateral meniscus (which is what landed me in surgery, then therapy). That means that I MUST wear arch supports or else I'll be tearing myself up all over again. I'm a dancer (mostly tap), and [most] dance shoes are made to fit your feet like a glove on a hand -- there wouldn't be any room for arch supports. My dad told me that having flat feet can hinder a physically active individual's life unless they wear arch supports. Is this true? I'm wondering if having flat feet can hinder a dancer's life. Would having arch supports improve your arches or would you have to wear them forever? I heard that ballerinas are always trying to "improve their arches", is that true? How do they do it (if they do)? (I'm not a ballerina, so i don't know for sure, lol) Also, am I getting all worked up over noting? Will i just be fine?

call my doctor?? I have severe tondonitis in my ankle in the tendon that hold up my arch. I am almost completely flat footed on that side. I have been casted and booted my doctor and I are on our last strike before surgery. I am currently in physical therapy right now and I see her two times a week. I am sched. to see my doctor in two weeks but within the last two weeks I have been in pain most of the day but getting progessively worse by the end of the day. this morning and all day today I have been in a ton of pain and it is more swollen than normal. I don;t know if i should call him and let him know or just wait until my appointment. My physical therapist thinks he is going to have to do surgery on this. I did see my physical therapist yesterday and she mentioned that it was swollen and made a not of that. But it has gotten more painful since yesterday
I was a fireman for 10 years and have sustained damage to my lower back. Is pain pills that bad if done proper I played sports for 12 years, (basketball and football) And have flat feet. And I am also 6'3 245lbs and up to 345lbs. I have got to the point of experimenting with options of relief. I now am a manager for Papa Johns and i am on my feet 10-11 hours 5 days per week. I took a sample of Lortab 10, I took 1 before work and 1 halfway thru work and it really helped me more than anything I have tried. I am unable to have surgery and this medication sustains me enough to work. Is this wrong trying this? Is there a better way because I know what exactly is wrong and I am financially unable for that. Thank You Steve

Lift light weights every other day. Still have extreme pain in knee, flat feet & scoliosis so can't do squats, running or walking for long periods of time. Retarded Knees? It all started in december when my right knee locked. I went to an orthopaedic and i was diagnosed with chondromalacia and flat feet. Well i have been taking physical therapy for my right knee for a month but now i am taking it for both because the other knee was giving me too much pain. I hate going to therapy because it hurts. What should i do? The therapy isnt working? Should i get surgery?
Has anyone ever heard of someone having collapsed ankles? I have been told that My 5yr old son has them!? A physical therapist that observed him in school has diagnosed him as this being his problem with balancing and sitting still. She says that his bones are in constant motion and that it has affected his hips and his way of life. We are going to a sheiners hospital for an evaluation on Wednesday to see what treatment options are available. It could be surgery, braces or just shoe inserts He will do theropy either way and I am worried about what this will do to his self esteem if he does have to have braces. He will be in first grade in August. At first we thought he was flat footed because his ankles touch and then there is a 2-3 inch gap between his heels. He has to extend his arms to run and has to hang on to something so down stairs because of the bone movement when he is doing these activities. Any advise or experiences will help!! His dad is around and our looks up to him greatly. To the first answer it is considered collapsed ankles because the bone is there it is just in my understanding that it is crushed and slides around in the socket, that was cruel for you say that it is the same as being broken He has had this condition for 5 years and they would have been healed or fixed by now if it were broken bones. Thanks for all of the answers I am starting to feel better.
i think i ruined my feet wearing 3in+ heels daily? when i try wearing flats my feet turn in towards the center, all the weight shifts to the inside part of my feet. does this mean i have bad feet or bad ankles? if i bring this up to my doctor will he recommend surgery or just therapy?
My 10 year old son has always walked on tiptoes, feet hurt. what could be wrong? He has been to a neurologist. They mention he may need walking casts, braces to extend the muscles, or surgery. What kind of surgery might that be? Is there a name for this? They checked his creatin kinase and that is fine. His feet are flat and he walks tiptoe because it hurts him and also other parts hurt like his hips, knees, sometimes back and etc from this stress. It hurts to extend his achilles tendon and the dr's said it should go up more than 10 degrees. My son is type 1 diabetic but all claim this is not related. I just wanted to add that this is both feet. Thank You for you time.
how would i comfort her when she's going through so much shit??? im goin out with a grl, we're both 15. and shes got a kind of disability where she gets hurt easier than norm. and now her foot broke to where its flat with no arch. and she may need a surgery that might take up to 6 months to heal completely. and i just have no idea what 2 say 2 her to comfort her cuz shes already had 5 surgerys. and she means the world 2 me and i dont want to c her goin through all this cuz she dont deserve it...so i need help with this one. i guess im just kinda askin about what can i do to make her feel a bit better and lighten the load a bit...
My Story and Suicide...Part III (Grade 6-8) *PLEASE DO NOT RESPONDE HERE MORE TO COME!? continuation this is part III read part's 1-2 Once i got into middle school i thought things would be different they weren't. I remember boys would make fun of me for being "flat chested" and one boy stood up in front of my ENTIRE ENGLISH CLASS and announced to the class he'd rather go out with a dead dog then date me. It was humiliating!! I went in for surgery in 7th grade and some girls came up to me during gym class and told me they hoped i would die....from surgery and i wouldn't come back. They told me it'd make the world a better place. I think at that point i fell into a depression....That's when i put my foot down and told my mother that i wanted to move. She refused....in 8th grade a girl got SO MANY OF MY FRIENDS against me and i lost many of them due to her. She would tell people when they could see me when they couldn't not to invite me all this mean stuff one of my best friends they had told (this girl is now in drug rehab) Any who in 8th grade i as well had FEW FRIENDS
I need a bigger sexier butt and working out at the gym has not helped.? Ok...I have a small bootie and my jeans look flat in the back. I have tried squats until my legs about fell off. I have tried high protein diets...I have tried Brazilian jeans...I have tried those silicone pad panties but they are nasty and go half a foot above my super low jeans. Damn!!! People can fly to the moon and create the internet and do brain surgery. Why the hell can't someone make something so my bootie can look fly! I am half/black and flat in the back. and that aint a good thing in my book...I mean bootie!
What are possible causes for tingling in both hands radiating down arms at same time? I have had a couple surgeries within the past five years, and ever since I have noticed a spot on my right thigh that becomes totally numb whenever I sleep or even walk for periods of time. It wasn't consistent so I just thought I was laying or moving wrong and it will go away. Recently I have also noticed like a muscle spasm occasionally on my right corner of my lip pulling down last a few seconds sometimes several times a day? I have had problems recently with dizziness and extreme tiredness that the DR has said could just be stress and an inner ear blockage. I have no abnormalities with blood work. I am overweight and one of the surgeries I had was a lumbarectomy about three years ago that was successful. Today I felt a new radiated numbness going down both arms and through the palms of my hands like a sleepy foot pins and needles, which seems to strengthen when I open my palms flat. It seems to be lasting quite awhile. Are all of these symptoms possibly related?
