Knee Surgery Recovery Time Knowledge Base

What is the normal recovery time from orthoscopic knee surgery for a 60 year olod male? I had orthoscopic kinee surgery approximately two weeks ago. Since the surgery I have placed very little pressure on the knee however the pain is not subsiding as quickly as I had hoped. Yesterday, i went to the grocery store at which time I developed a cramp in my ankle. When should I start experiencing relief without the help of pain medication, and when will i sleep like a normal human being again?
What can I expect for a recovery time for knee surgery? I apparently have a complete tear on my acl, a high grade tear on my mcl and some other damage that i can't remember. When could i expect to return to training in martial arts?
How long to recovery after knee surgery? I had knee surgery 3 weeks ago. I had the cartilidge and bone scraped out. I'm 18 and have been told I'll recovery fatser than older people. Does anyone know when I'll be able to walk? I'm currently going to physical therapy, will that help me recover faster?
Knee Surgery Recovery? I am about to have knee replacement surgery 12-19. Please let me know what you went through with recovery. I am already aware of the pain, buising, and PT. Please be specific on how long you were hospitalized, how long you had to stay in bed before the doctore told you to start moving. Advice on bathing around the incision. Trips to the bathroom? Thanks for all of your helpful input.
What is the recovery like after Knee replacement surgery? My mother has just come home from knee replacement surgery with little or no details about recovery. If anyone can provide insight on what to expect afterwards would be great. (i.e physio duration, getting around at home, walker vs. cane etc...)
how long is recovery for arthroscopic knee surgery? it's exploratory. i'm getting it tomorrow. how long is recovery and if you have had this done, how long was your recovery time? thanks!
Can someone offer a success story about recovery after knee surgery? I have basically fully recovered from the surgery and can get back to being physically active, but I'm finding it extremely difficult to get back to where I was before the surgery. It seems to be taking forever to reshape after having to be fairly sedentary for so many months. Can anyone offer a success story, including how long it took for you to regain your strength and shape??? Just wanted to add - my knee feels fine and I successfully completed physical therapy. But, I'm 38 and getting back into shape after being almost completely sedentary for so long has been extremely frustrating. I'm hoping someone has some thoughts about how much exercise I'll really need to do and how long it will take to get back into the swing. Thanks everyone for the replies so far!!
Questions about knee recovery after surgery...? I had knee surgery on the medial ligament in December. I have been swimming and building the muscles up since and have started playing football again. Is it normal to have twinges and for it to jarr a bit? Thanks
Post op are there groups that meet to discuss recovery, including therapy, after knee surgery? I don't need flip answers like going to the gym. Many people experience limited movement even with therapy. Pain levels are high, even with extreme medication. With the number of operations in this area, including hips. Like cancer and heart groups, there must be support groups that get together and discuss ways to enhance the recovery process. Doctors give patients the operation and device to make life better, but it is up to the patient to adjust to a new quality of life. It appears that some people handle it better than others, seems to me the answer would be served by the people that are living through it and sharing their success or failure with others.
Have you had Knee surgery? "replacement -Recovery" need advice.? My sister is having a total knee replacement, it was widely researched and it is the very best thing for her. She is in her 50's. What do I need to be prepared for? I am the primary care taker. I'm a sport professional massage therapist, yet "joint replacement" is NOT my forte'. Have you had it? How long and what was recovery like. We can handle anything as long as we know!
arthoscopic knee surgery and recovery? I had knee surgery to remove my plica and to clean up my cartillage on the 11th of april, today the 14th i had physical therapy to get some motion back. How long should i be on crutches? How long does it take to be able to run? Nd to get back to playing soccer 100 percent or a litte less if i dont ever get back to that.its frustrating to not be able to do anything and I was dissapointed in my first day of physical therapy. Please help me?! so its the day after physical therapy and its painful to move completely and I'm trying real hard to walk on it with my crutches.I'm suppose to be doing all the range of motion exercises.not too sure how I'm going to be able to do it today.
What is the surgery and recovery like to fix a partially torn meniscus (In the knee)? I have to have this surgery and I was wondering what the recovery is like so I can schedule the surgery when it will fit in with school and vacation best. Will I have to be on crutches? If so, how long? How soon after the surgery will I be able to walk up and down hills will no problem? Also, how is the surgery itself? I've had a bunch of operations before, so I'm not really worried, but it will be nice to know what other peoples experiences were. Thanks!
How to promote and allow full recovery of a knee injury to avoid athritis and surgery? Had a knee injury not to long ago. It recovered, to an extent, but still bugs me from time to time. How can I get my knee back to normal (or at least as best I can) without medications of any kind. I don't want to be reminded of this when I'm much older and don't ever want surgery. Has anybody had any luck with this and what should I do?
What is a recovery like after torn knee ligament ACL surgery? Hey guyz. I have a torn ligament in my left knee. I am just so damn scared from the surgery. Am I going to be on bed for 6 months, am I ever going to be normal, am I ever going to completely heal my torn ligament, is the suregery very painful, will my insurence (blue cross) pay for this, if I tear the same ligament again, whats going to happen then. What are some activities to keep someone entertained while recovering from knee surgery? My boyfriend loves sports and is extremely active, but he hurt his knee and needs to get surgery. The recovery period from the surgery is supposed to be months long, and I'm afraid he's going to go stir-crazy.
Recovery time from ACL revision surgery. This will be 5th surgery on knee, microfracture 5 month's ago.? I had an ACL Patella Tendon graft done in 1996, Microfracture in 2000 with meniscus repair. Then Feb 2007 microfracture, now need acl revision. How long am I looking at for recovery and time out of work. I have a very physical job lot's of bending heavy lifting, up and down steps etc. I have read 4 months is that correct. Also sorry to be long winded, after surgery when do you start rehab, I have read anywhere from 4-6 weeks is that correct? Thanks for all your help.
Is my orthopaedic surgeon delaying my recovery from knee surgery? Should I change surgeons for the next one? I had about 1/3 rd of my lateral meniscus removed along with a lateral release. My doctor wants no weight bearing on the knee for 3 weeks, and partial weight bearing on the 4th week! As I understand it, many people start putting weight on the leg on the second day, and return to normal activity within 4-6 weeks. I'm at the fourth week and nowhere near being 100%. I recently got laid off and I feel like I'm wasting what little money I have on co-pays for physical therapy because the therapist has to go at a snail's pace because of what he wrote on the prescription. This is also a drag on my life. It makes everything harder. I'm also going to have to have the same two procedures done on the other knee. It's a hassle to switch doctors, but I'm wondering if I should go to a surgeon who will allow a more realistic recovery time frame. I'm only 29 and I see no reason to drag this process along, although I'm certainly no expert. I've just done a lot of reading on the subject.
Has anyone had recovery problems with knee replacement surgery? Such as continued swelling, stiffness. Nothing shows up on xray, but cannot sit for more than an hour before pain is bad and a little swollen.

Summer is coming and i am bummed out
Recovery after knee surgery? I had a knee scope on April 4th 2008 and had a medial meniscus tear that needing to be cut. Only the inside portion of the meniscus was cut and the doctor said that I would not have a problem recovering 100% . Since I go to the gym 3 times a week he said that I did not have to go to PT . My ? is , is how long before I am back to normal? My knee is still sore and I still cannot run. I have been packing to get ready to move and am going to have to lift and move heavy things and my knee is pretty sore. Anyone know whats up? Is this normal?
hibiscus knee tear; recovery time? my dad recently went into the doctor's to get an MRI, and he's waiting to get his surgery scheduled. And they told him he has a hibiscus rupture/tear in his knee. My main question is how long is the recovery time after surgery, and is your knee 100% after surgery?
Having knee surgery soon. first time having surgery. what to expect? I am having knee surgery in a few weeks. i dislocated my knee about 2 years ago and it is still messed up. they are cutting the tissue off the outside of my kneecap because it is too tight and is pulling my kneecap onto its side, and then they are cutting the tissure and muscle off the inside edge of my kneecap and reattatching it farther in because it is too loose. I have never had surgery before, and i was just wondering what to expect. has anyone ever had a similar surgery done? what was the recovery time? how bad did it hurt? i might add that i am a very serious ballet dancer, dancing for about 4 hours a day, 5 days a week, so my knees are quite strong for my age. (i'm 15.)
knee surgery? i have to have surgery on my knee, i tore the Mensicus, has anyone had this surgery? how painfull was it? what was ur recovery time, like how long before u could walk agian? :D thanks
What is the recovery time after an above the knee amputation? I might be facing an amputation above the knee due to an infection in the foot. I have poor circulation in the leg due to many surgeries after receiving gun shot wounds to the knees in Iraq. The Doctor is entertaining the idea of amputation and I was wondering if anyone out there knows the time line for recovery after an ordeal like this? Thanks for your time and prayers, Justin
What should I expect with arthroscopic knee surgery? I am prob. having arthroscopic knee surgery for torn cartiladge... what should i expect for recovery time and pre and post surgery... also I have a job that I recently started...I stand for around 4-5 hours.. how long would i prob. be out of work?
what are the recovery time & percentage of recovery from knee operation & thigh bone snapping? met with accident on 22.03.2008. had knee cap removed & rod fixed as thigh bone was broken. degree of movement of knee is not as required. had therapy done regularly.finally doc has advised to go in for a orthorscopic surgery to remove the additions along the knee. Is it ok to go along with the doc's advice.have a lot of faith in the doc.is this a normal occurance? does it take so much time and would the problem persists?
has anyone ever tore their meniscus in their knee? How long was your recovery time?? I just tore the meniscus in my knee, and I am on crutches. I was wondering how long recovery time is if I can avoid surgery. I know everyone heals differently, but any information would be helpful. I will have more details once I go to the orthopedic surgeon next week. Thanks.....
How long should she be on the mobilizer after knee replacement surgery? My Mother-in-law had knee replacement surgery about 4 years ago, and i was her primary care giver during her time of recovery, her sister has just had the surgery and my mother-in-law is caring for her, and we cant remember how long she was on the mobilizer during her recovery.. anyone know how long and how often? The device is called the Continuous Passive Motion(CPM) machine. you strap the leg in and it bends and straightens the leg for the patient
I just had knee surgery. Any tips on post OP recovery? Anyone else out there had orthopedic surgery. I had my bones cut, realigned, and tendents reconstructed. (ya I really messed it up). Thanks for the help Alright ill tell you guys how it all happened. I had a Lateral and Proxemital Patella Realignment. (knee cap cut and realigned). Well I had 4 injures to the knee. The first one was the worst and caused the most amount of damage. I would still have need the same surgery but i just didnt think anything was really wrong with it. Anyway I was jumping on a trampoline with like 10 other people. (im 220 pounds 6'0 muscular guy) so probably 9 too many. but I was jumping in the middle and as I came down so did like half of the other people. I went straight down and hit the ground. but as a knee would normally bend as you fall. my straightened out and bent the wrong way. Very disgusting. There you go!!!
Surgery Recovery Time? My dog will eventually need surgery that will have a 6 week recovery period. I am unsure of when she will need it - could be this year, might not be. It depends on how quickly her knee condition degrades. I am just trying to plan ahead and keep vacation time open for this. How long should I stay home with her after her surgery? I only have a little over 2 weeks (combo personal and sick time) and was unsure if I should keep it all open, or just a week or so? She is a year old
Can recovery after arthroscopic surgery of the meniscus involve pinching and pulling considered normal? It has been 2 weeks since my knee surgery where the doctor removed damaged meniscus, removed loose fragments and debrided joint surface. Even today, I feel pinching/pulling on the medial side when I walk or get up from sitting position. After a short walk the pinching becomes quite uncomfortable and I have to stop. I have been taking phyical therapy. I am wondering if this is to be expected or the doctor did not do a good job? The doctor did observe a moderate degree of arthritis. Sharing a similar experience by any one will be helpful.
How much should it cost for Knee Surgery on a 60 lb dog? My dog (and Aussie) has been diagnosed with luxating patella on both his back legs.. they roughly guessed 1500 - 2000 dollars.(for each surgery) now it may have been close to 7 years ago that my maltese Mikey (may he rest in peace) had a knee surgery and it was 700, and the hip surgery he had 4 years ago was only 400 I can't believe the price would be almost double? Since the surgery on the small dog is actually harder to do than on a big dog. (they told me that at the time, that it was difficult on his little small bones and there was a possibility I could end up with a three legged dog depending on how bad the knee actually was) (FYI, Mikey's last surgery (the hip surgery) aggrivated his cancer (that they had found about 5 years earlier) and it wasn't long after recovery I had to have him put to sleep :( ) OH.. I forgot the most important part.. hearing "the best vets" charge more.. My vet told me " this guy isn't BOARD CERTIFIED, but he's been doing all her surgery @ her clinic for 11 years" Why would she think I would let a NON BOARD CERTIFIED SURGEON even work on my baby??
recovery time for dislocated knee cap? i was standing up from the ground yesterday and the side of my knee cap hit the floor and disloctaed my knee cap, or atleast thats what i think what happened because i felt my knee cap move completly to the side of my knee and back into place....now when i tighten my knee up or twist to the side the inner side of my knee hurts badly....the most important thing i need to know is recovery time with or without surgery because my dance competition season starts in 2-3 months.
Do I need knee surgery for a small tear and stress fracture? I just received the results of my MRI that state that I have a small tear of the posterior horn of the medial meniscus extending to the inferior articular surface, a mild sprain of the medial collateral ligament and a stress fracture of the lateral tibial plateau. Is surgery necessary, or will physical therapy be enough? If surgery is necessary, how long is the recovery period? Thanks!
Should I have shoulder and knee surgery now, or wait until later? I have a torn labrum in my left shoulder and torn cartilage in left knee. The doctor thinks that I may have to have surgery to repair both. The knee surgery is not that invasive and amounts to arthroscopic surgery. The recovery time is about 2-3 weeks he said, depending on the severity. The shoulder surgery is worse. He says that I would be in a sling for 9 weeks and then have about 6 months of rehab. I am on a diet right now and am doing really well. I have lost a bunch of weight and am getting stronger, even with the knee and shoulder. My knee hurts when I workout or am active on that knee. My shoulder hurts most of the time. I was just wondering if I should risk the results I ahve gotten with my diet and give next summer another shot, or wait until maybe September to have the surgeries?
Anyone ever had arthroscopic knee surgery? I have to do that soon. They said that most of it will be arthroscopic, but they have to make a couple of small incisions to tighten up some ligaments. Basically, my knee has been dislocated about a dozen times in the past ten years and they're trying to avoid doing that again. I've been quoted about three months for a full recovery, but how long will it be before I can at least walk around a little bit? I'm a teacher, and I'm wondering if I should go ahead and do it, or if I should wait until school is over and do it next summer. Any advice from people who have done this, or had it done, would be appreciated.
whats the recovery time i don't know the surgery name? i got in a accident about 9 months ago and i shattered my growth plate in my right knee im all healed now but the docter says that half of the growth plate has stopped growing and wants me to see a specialist, they have surgery where the take fat and put it in the growth plate to hopefully re activate the growth plate but the thing is i have to do this over my summer break from school and during that time i want to get some serious exercise and dieting in because im over weight but i want this surgery because i dont want to be short so if anyone knows the name of this surgery and the recovery time came you please leave me a line it would be greatly appreiciated. thanks>
Knee surgery question.? I'm going in for my 3rd knee surgery next Monday (Sept 8th). The people where I'm getting my post-surgical brace said to bring an ice pack to the surgery b/c most insurances won't cover ice packs. Has anyone else heard of this?? Will the hospital staff keep up with it through surgery and recovery? Yeah; I don't think they will keep up with it and of course they will "resume no responsibilty for things lost". haha. I think I'm just going to make them give me a new one; whether it's covered or not.
Knee Recovery...Please Help!? I am 19 years old and I have had 3 knee surgeries in the past two years. When I was 17 I ripped my acl and meniscus, I had surgery and had everyting repaired. A year later i slipped and ripped my mesisus again and 5% of my acl. My dodctor decided not to repair my acl and just repaired my meniscus. Just recently I went to the dr cause my need didnt feel right. I did an MRI and she found I very tiny tear in my meniscus which she said was not repairable. So they went in and just cleaned it out. She also told me that my cartalidge was wearing down. Now my main goal is to avoid knee reaplacement, which she claims I will need if I continue in this path. I was wondering if anyone has gone through this and if there was any postive advise as to help me get my knee in the best possible shape?
Should I have surgery for knee osteoarthritis? I am only 26 and I have early stage osteoarthritis in my knee. My MRI did not show any meniscal tears. I took physical therapy for 8 weeks and it seemed to help but now it's getting worse. My knee constantly pops when I walk and I can't exercise much. My surgeon wants to "scope" my knee and "pick" the bone but from what I've read online arthroscopic surgery doesn't have good reviews. Has anyone had experience with it? If so what was your experience and what was the recovery like?
Knee surgery? My mom who is 77 yrs old is thinking about getting surgery? My mom's knees are in bad shape due to not exercising and she has arthritis. So she was thinking about getting a knee replacement and she read about a surgery where there's only a small incision and the recovery time is faster and easier. Has anybody had that kind of knee replacement surgery and where?
My right leg have been inmobilized for the last 6 weeks due to a knee surgery? How long is the recovery time? Im starting physical therapy very soon. I'm 26 yrs old and very motivated 2 different fractures to the knee cap, I know the full recovery is gonna take along time but I just wanted to know how long until I see some movements on my knee (Bending)
Knee Surgery Recovery? I had surgery on the 14, i had arthroscopic surgery on the left side of my left knee to do a lateral release and also they had to cut about a 5 inch incision on the other side of my knee for some ligament repair. but my question is.....Why would the little baby holes for the arthroscopic surgery hurt more than the large incision????? They are killing me! i had it checked out for infection and its fine. but why do they hurt so bad?
Knee Surgery Recovery? I had orthoscoptic ACL reconstructive surgery. Two screws put in with some cartilage taken out. 6 months later I still have occasional pain and it now pops like you crack you knuckles. Will it ever be normal?

I am contemplating knee surgery because I have tried everything else.I have lots of creams and lotions that are suposed to relieve pain.didn't work.I even resorted to being injected with hylaurinic acid with a needle as big as a flavor injector for a turkey.that didn't work either.if anyone has done this surgery please let me know what I am in for......recovery time and if the scar is big.write soon and thanks to all.
Knee surgery? MCL, PCL, meniscus transplants. Has anyone recovered from this type of surgery? Or have medical knowledge on this? I am on crutches for 6 weeks. Surgeon also did bone tunnels and reset my kneecap. I am 4 weeks into the recovery from this surgery and I am finding that when I am upright (which I am wanting do gradually ) the swelling gets pretty intense, more so than whe I just came out of surgery. When does this start to change for the better (not swell so much)? I feel like this is maybe more restrictive than should be!??!?!
ACL Surgery Recovery? About a month ago I completely tore my ACL at soccer practice. I'm getting surgery this friday and I'm really scared. I'm just 14 and i've never had a major surgery like this. But i was wondering, will i have a scar(s) on my knee after full recovery?
Orthoscopic Knee Surgery.... help Please??? I have been recently told i need surgery on my rt. knee for two tears, one on either side of my knee cap. I know recovery time varies but i am more interested in what happens after. Will I have to have a cast? Or just a brace ? Will this haunt me for the rest of my life? ( I am overweight but losing it, will that make a difference) Just things like that. Thanks in advance
im going to have knee surgery i have a few questions....? im going to get orthoscopic knee surgery...can anyone give me the recovery time..how soon can i walk without support...the orthopedic surgeon said it would only take 30 min to an hour for the procedure...and from my regular doc. that i should be walking that day...seems strange to me is that true??
orthoscopic knee surgery? i am going to have knee surgery i dont know how there going to do it. I am just curilus of the recovery time how long surgery takes and all that good stuff i am a little scared so any help would be appreciated thanks in advance
Knee surgery Qs? I got MCL/MPL surgery 60 hours ago. They stitched one back together, and put a bolt in my bone to reconnect the other, since they tore differently. I cannot walk, and there's a 6 inch surgical cut on the inside of the knee. I am wondering how long recovery time is. I fell on it on the way home, so the doctors and nurses will only tell me not to worry about that and to take it easy. I fell and broke the immobilizing brace, and went back to the hospital, they sent me home with 6 stitches to reclose the cut. So how long will it be?
Recovery time for knee Arthroscopy? I had Arthroscopy on my right knee two and a half weeks ago. When I walk outside my whole leg hurts and gets tired very easily. Is that normal for that type of surgery? had torn meniscus and arthritis clean up
Surgery on Knee? I have to have knee surgery next month. My doctor said that they want to remove 2 pieces of torn cartilage, and then try to move my kneecap back to its rightful place. It is currently basically on the side of my knee instead of the front. I'm looking forward to not being in pain anymore, but was wondering how long the recovery would be? She said I could go back to work on Monday (with having surgery the Wednesday before) but that seems too soon to me, especially with it being my right knee and I have to drive. What would a more realistic time be? Should I apply for medical leave at work? Thank you!!!
Endoscopic knee surgery? i have internal knee derangement in my right knee. i have had that problem for about 5 months now. it means my kneecap doesnt want to stay in place and it moves. i have worn a brace 24/7 for 5 mo. and i have been in PT. i havent gotten much better, i guess you could say i have reached a plataeu. i went to my orthopedist yesterday and he suggested that surgery would be the next step for me. my kneecap is sitting on an angle, and he said he would go in and lengthen one ligament and tighten the other so i wont be in so much pain all of the time. i have to make a decision soon, but im leaning towards the surgery option. i just want to kno that if anybody has had this done before and what the recovery time will be like. (my doc. told me i'd be in a brace 4 a month, then 2/3 mo. of PT) and will i still have a normal range of movement in my knee? im kinda nervous about the whole thing. ( im 15 almost 16) im a ballet dancer (not on pointe yet) so will i still be able to dance? maybe it was arthoscopic, not endoscopic. i think i got the words confused.
I might get ARTHOSCOPIC SURGERY IN MY KNEE...? ok i might get arthoscopic knee surgery because i have a torn ligament and my knee cap moves around which causes pain. Questions: 1: For anethesia: do they insert the needle in the elbow area or the palm area? 2: what are the chances of me waking up during surgery? 3: Does it hurt when you wake up? 4: do you have to sleep in the hospital after surgery because of physical therapy? 5: Do i use a wheel chair for some time? 6: how long is the surgery? 7: How long do i have a cast on? 8:how long do i use crutches? 9: Is it a hard recovery?? PLEASE TRY TO ANSWER AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE! I am only 14 and getting this surgery next month and i am sooo scared... please.. God bless you!
Baker's Cyst Surgery Recovery? I have a bakers cyst on my left knee and have had for about 2 years now. It was fine for a long time, but I have had more problems with it recently. It has been drained and had a steroid injected, and after time it still comes back. I think my last option now is surgery. Has anyone had surgery on a bakers cyst, and if so, what was your recovery like? How long did it take, and after the inital recovery time, did you have to go to rehab? Thanks for the help.
Knee Surgery ????? which one is best? Hi i am about to go back to my knee specialist to discuss what surgery to have next and my choices are 1) Cartlidge Graft 2) Realignment of the Tibia both are big operations and i have spoken to my physio and he has recommended the Tibia as this has a better seccuss rate and shorter recovery time has any one had either operation and what was the result thanks i am 25 years old and i am a mobile security officer i stepped in to a ditch 12mths ago and hyperextended the knee and 3 mths later i had a arthoscope to find that i had done damage to back of the knee cap and also cartlidge damage then 12 weeks ago i had a lateral release that has done nothing but cause more pain and then 3 weeks ago i had a cortison injection again no help at all i need to be able to get in/out of car 50+ times in a 11 hour period so if one of these operations helps i would be so happy i also was over weight but have lost 18kg in 26 weeks with about the same to go at the moment i am still on crutches and cant do much but after surgery / recovery i hope to be able to do as much as possiable as idid before the injury i know there will be limits but hope they wont keep me from returning to my pre-injury job as i haven't worked in just over 12mths
who has had or performs arthoscopic knee surgery? I will be getting surgery on my knee in a week because i tore my meniscus. i have been getting conflicting reports on my recovery time. one of the docs said a month or so, another doc said 6-8 weeks. the first doc said i will be walking out of the hospital, the second doc said that i might have to use crutches for a few weeks with my leg in a brace bent or straight. the second doc also said the first scenario was possible, and if so i would go immediately to physical therapy. i'm fifteen and i really want to recover so i can play sports. i dont care how tough physical therapy may be. what scenario do you think is most likely? response to somebody's answer: i have researched it a lot, i'm also taking a class on sports injuries. thanks for the help!
Recovering from knee surgery? I dislocated my knee cap about two months ago and choose to have surgery on it, which I personally think is the dumbest decision of my life. They aligned my knee cap and stiched my tissue back together. Anyways, my recovery process hasn't been so bad but now, a couple months after surgery, I am in terrible pain as if I had just had surgery. I was curious as to what any of think like, do you think I'll always have some pain in my knee? And the thing is that I haven't done anything for this pain to even happen. It's terrible But your answers are appreciated Thanks xx
Replacement Knee Surgery? I have to have the surgery because I'm in sooo much pain - no carteledge in BOTH knees. Any experience with double surgery? How long for hospital, nursing home, recovery, etc. I'm really scared about the pain and the final outcome. I know myself too well and won't go back for the 2nd one. I have to go to a nursing home since no family is nearby to help me. Also, I only have so many sick days from work so I'd rather do two at once and only be out the one time. I know it will be worse but I'm willing to do it since I've made up my mind. It took me 7 years to come this far so I can't go backwards now!
Boston Terrier just had knee surgery, anyone out there with simular - need some advice quick!? Surgery was to deepen the groove in the bone to allow the knee cap to fit properly - had this done on Tuesday. He has swelling of the upper leg and is not really too enthuastic about anything - owner is deeply concerned about how long recovery will be and if anyone has a pet with this type of surgery could tell me of how well their pet recovered. Concerned if we did the right thing by having the surgery done. Vet assures all is okay - but would really like to hear from people who have gone through this with their pet.
Anybody have knee surgery lately? My Mom is thinking of having knee surgery due to pain when walking/getting up. How invasive is the procedure now-a-days? About how long is recovery? Is the physical therapy that follows very painful? Thanks. All advice and comments are appreciated! :)
Is Knee Microfracture surgery usually successful? I had knee microfracture surgery on Monday to repair some cartilage. My surgeon told me that it may now work as in some cases it doesn't. If it doesn't work i will need to have my leg broken to realign it as it 3 degrees out. I have to stay off my leg for 6 weeks and then light pressure for a further 2 (Basically 8 weeks on crutches). What is the success rate with the procedure and is there anything i can do to a) help the chance of success and / or B) speed up recovery time? Any advice from medical professionals and / or people sho have undergone this procedure would be great.

Microfracture knee surgery? Have you had this surgery? If so, I'm interested in how your recovery has progressed and what tips, if any, you might have. Thanks in advance for sincere replies.
Knee Surgery - your experience? After multiple insults to it when I was younger, my knees are not in the best of shape. I know that I've worn down the cartilage on the back of my knee and need to have it scoped. Has anyone else had this done? How bad/long is the recovery? How long until I can be physically active again? How much did it help your knee pain?
Which physician does the "minimal invasion" knee surgery ? This procedure reduces the recovery time. The size of the cut is 3" instaed of the regular 8". The physician should be located In greater Los Angeles only.
ACL surgery recovery? I'm 6 months post ACL repair by patellar allograft and a partial removal of a damaged medial meniscus on my right leg which is the dominant leg. I can do a one legged squat with my left leg all the way down to full knee flexion and get back up. I can only get to about 80, maybe 70 degree flexion on my right leg when I try a one legged squat on my right knee. Am I expecting too much too soon? Will my stronger dominant right leg ever be as strong as my left leg? will I ever be able to do a full one legged squat with my operated knee? I'm 48 and very active in sports, especially snow skiing and mountain biking.
Just had knee surgery and am sick of begging for help, any ideas how to get help without feeling like a burden I am 50 yrs old and always going out of my way for others in need. Now when I need help it seems like everyone is to busy for me. Even my daughter is to busy. My parents are ill and now I can't depend on anyone to step in while I am down. My father has a chemo appointment that I asked 3 people to call him and let him know they would take him to it and not one person has called him. and he has to go to bed tonight not knowing.I am getting very angry and bitter and hurt. I don't feel I should have to call and beg. I am so afraid I am going to over due it and damage my recovery . Pissed in Michigan
ACL surgery and recovery(Should I got to rehab anymore?) LOL? I just had ACL surgery December 15th. It has been less than a month and I've only been through one week of rehab. I have little to no pain at all. I can bend my knee and straighten it all the way. Rehab seems like a joke seeing as I have a full gym in my basement and know the exercises to get my knee stronger (clearly). I know to take it easy w/ the knee no jumping or anything till I can get my stability and 3months of course! Rehab seems good to find out what exercises to use but thats it. Think I'll do fine w/ out going to rehab seeing as all thats in my way is healing and more strenthening? P.S. the girl has me doing flexibility crap that I can't do that much at all LOL and... working on balance which I'm terrible at. I fall down when I play tennis LOL (tripping over the feet of course) so anyways, I'm thinking about getting rid of the whole reahab in the next week or two seeing as I feel I can do the stuff on my own. Right thing to do?
Surgery to remove clacifications in knee? I had surgery on 10/9/06 to remove calcifications from my patella tendon (doctor said something like that) I had them from running a lot on my injured knee. So I was wondering if anyone else had this and when I would be back in top shape... I'm a freshman and although I haven't run in a while my best 400 time from last year was a 59.65 I was the best in middle school but hs is way different I need to be running sub 56 or so by the end of this year so my questions are is this realistic and how long is recovery and are my times good
Recovery Time? how long does it take to recover from knee reconstruction surgery. i have to have this surgery. i am still a kid if that helps. so how long does it take to recover from knee reconstruction
What is the recovery time for plica surgery? Specifically, how many rehab sessions am i looking at? And how long before my knee strength permits a full return to activity? Cheers.
Anybody undergone arthroscopic surgery for a tear in the meniscus of the knee??? I have just been informed that I have a torn meniscus of the knee. Just wondering is anyone out there could tell me about the arthrscopic surgery. Do they put you to sleep? an epidural? numbing of the leg? Recovery time? How long does the actual procedure take? Are you happy with the results? Thanks in advance for answering.
Has anyone had Arthroscopy Surgery of the knee? I'm having surgery tomorrow and i'm wondering if anyone has had it before? how long is the recovery time? is it painful? Thanks
Recovery time fore severe deep quadricep bruise/nerve damage.? I was kneed extremely hard in the mid quad area about a month ago playing a pick-up basketball game, I kept playing on it for about 2 hours in and didn't really feel the pain because it was a pretty intense game. By the end of the last game i had a limp and then an hour later i couldn't even walk. The next couple of days I was in extreme pain and couldn't flex my quad, especially above the knee. Its been a month now, the pain is gone but i still can't flex the quad muscle above the knee and can't use the muscle properly (ie: walking up stairs). I was wondering if I experienced nerve damage and if i did does it heal on its own or would i need surgery?
Recovery for MCL? Last week I was putting a box in my car (I'm moving) & twisted my left knee. I went to the ER & they put me in an immobilizer & on crutches claiming sprained knee. I followed up with my reg doc which sent me for an MRI & I go to see an Orthopedic Surgeon tomorrow for more follow up on where we go from here. So has anybody had this happen & what course was taken along with the recovery of it. I know some people have surgery & some don't. So I'm looking for both sides of the spectrum on this. OH I did injure the same knee 30 years ago but didn't have surgery at that time. They said I would recover in time since I was still a child. I was told today that I do have to have ACL reconstruction surgery. Dang it!!
to all with bad knees? my ACL and minscule is torn and not much there. has anyone else had and ACL surgery was it bad? how long was recovery time? what else was done?
I had an ACL reconstruction and meniscal repair done on 12/21. Now, I feel new pain ...? ... on the interior of the damaged knee, suggesting that my medial meniscal repair has failed. I haven't come back too soon, staying with my P.T. schedule and taking it easy. I had been right on schedule before this set-back, with range of motion and strengthening (I was feeling great). Now, I'm worried that the stitches have torn in my medial meniscus repair and I will need another athroscopic knee surgery. It felt a little off, worse than the previous two weeks or so, after P.T. yesterday (first time doing lunges, and I'm 6'5, 230 lbs, could that have played a role?). I'm planning on giving it until the end of the weekend before I schedule an ortho. appt. and probably another MRI. I'm only 18, and the recovery shouldn't be as bad as the first time around, but it would still be a costly set-back. Does anyone have any further insight?
What is the best exercise for me? I have had 2 total knee replacements. Doc told me to never do walking or jogging beacause it would be too much pressure on the hardware. He said to not do any exercises that will manipulate the knees very much.. I am doing very well with my new knees and most of the time I never know it is not my real knees. I am truly thankful for this technology. It's a rough surgery and for a complete recovery, it takes almost a year. I have worked hard in physical therapy to get my knees to function fully and get to the 120 degree bend, like normal knees. Any ideas?
Concering "shin splints". Brief exp.? I had recent surgery for an ACL tear @1 month ago. I did receive an allograft, so my recovery has been easy compared to a tibial paellar graft "my first repair on opposite knee". However, I am trying so hard to walk , just walk, not timing myself, but going as far as I can. First two days 1.8 miles in 25 minutes. Okay long story long! I have shin splints in both legs, what did I do wrong ? Or did I?
